I want my jewelry to be more accessible so I can wear it more often. With most of my items "put away" in boxes in the closet, I don't remember or take the trouble to pull them out and wear them very often. I have many, many Pandora charms that I'd like to be able to see more clearly as well.
So, do you think having a Jewelry Armoire in the bedroom near the dresser is a bad idea (from a theft standpoint)? I suppose that means, do you plan for burglary or not. I'd like to try to be optimistic and we live in a low crime area and I am home most of the time but think that may be naive.

I have two tall underwear/jewelry chests as nightstands. I keep a few things in the top drawer but the other stuff is in my closet, out of sight.

I have too much jewelry for a box.
I made a bedroom into my closet and the closet of that bedroom is my jewelry closet.

Getting a jewelry armoire was a game changer for me to wear my jewelry more consistently. Items tucked in boxes just don't get worn. I'm not worried about theft.
I used to tuck more valuable gold and pearls in a hiding spot when we were away, but don't even bother to do that most of the time now as there is usually someone in the house.

I bought one of those standing jewelry armories from QVC that has on the front a full length mirror and when you open it it has room for storing jewelry inside and also on the inside of the door. I bought it around 10 years ago. What I really love about it is the organization. I can see everything at once and at a glance. It has a key and I can lock it if I want to. I don't think it's a bad idea from a thief standpoint because mine just looks like a full length mirror and the fact that it locks.

My jewelry isn't nice enough to bother stealing. I don't wear enough to bother getting nice pieces. I keep mine in my closet.
When we were robbed, right before Christmas, the bastards took only electronics. They could have taken jewelry, piled up packages of christmas gifts, other valuable items. They just wanted laptops and tablets. I think they took the three gifts I had wrapped under the tree out of spite. It's been three years and I'm still not over the anger of it.

I have an antique jewelery box that my dad gave me, which I will never part with. I keep all my costume jewelry in it. My valuable jewelery is hidden. I figure that's a good compromise.

I have a jewelry box where I keep items that I don't wear often, but I keep "every day" items visible. For necklaces, I have a coat rack on the wall where they hang. For earrings, I have a 3-sided earring tree that rotates. I do wear the visible items more often than the ones that are tucked away.

I have a jewelry armoire and I love it. I mostly keep costume jewelry there and rotate my good pieces from a safe place based on the things I'm wearing.

In most cases, thieves will ransack your home/bedroom and find the jewelry anyway (unless it's seriously locked up). So if you think you'll get more use/enjoyment out of your jewelry by seeing it/wearing it, then you should get that visible mirror/armoire. Remember, it's just stuff. And I'm saying this as a victim of theft (all my jewelry was stolen - and was not left out visibly).

I have too much jewelry for a box. I made a bedroom into my closet and the closet of that bedroom is my jewelry closet. Wow! Goals! I love this. I have a decorative small box on my bedside table where my engagement and wedding rings, and a sapphire ring - all of which I wear daily - are put in when I go to bed - my fingers swell up if I sleep in my rings. I have a jewelry hanger in my bathroom on the wall next to the vanity with costume necklaces and bracelets. A few nicer pieces are in my drawers in my lingers chest.

I needed an ‘other’ category. I don’t wear my good jewelry so it stays in a fireproof box hidden elsewhere in the house with important papers and our passports. We really should get a safety deposit box at a bank. My less expensive jewelry is in a box on a shelf in my closet, I never wear any of that either. It’s not exactly hidden but it’s not out in the open either.
I’ve always heard (or maybe read) that thieves will look in dresser drawers for valuables and obviously if things are right out in the open where they are easy to sweep into a pillowcase or duffel bag, they are more likely to be taken if someone gets into the house. So for that reason I wouldn’t ever keep that stuff so easily accessible.

Put it out so you enjoy it and wear it! If a thief enters your house he'll find your jewelry. Unless you had it hidden in the downstairs closet under the Christmas decorations something super tucked away. If it's just in the closet or dresser drawer, pretty sure they will be looking there. Are they stealing costume jewelry, Pandora? Or are you just worried about attracting them with the large quantity of costume to your few diamonds?

I have asked Santa to bring me a large jewelry box for Christmas. What I have now is too small. The replacement, however, will sit where the old one is—on top of my clothes chest. I only keep costume jewelry there except for one pendant which is a gold monogram. WhenI leave town, I hide the pendant. I wear my 2 diamond rings every time I leave the house. But I look forward to being able to see and have quick access to my costume pieces as I have a goodly amount.

I don’t worry about theft, not because it can’t happen but because there is no point in me having pretty jewelry if I don’t use it.

Mine is on top of my dresser, it used to be in my dresser but then I downsized the amount of jewelry I owned and thus needed less storage. I don't have anything that costs more than $100 so not worried about thief.

I wear most of my nice jewelry. The piece I don't wearoften that is worth a lot is hidden where no one would find it for quite some time.

Any jewelry over $500.00, that is not worn daily, is kept in our safety deposit box at our bank. We have 24/7/365 access, and it's 4 minutes from my house. It works for us. I have my fun jewelry sorted by color, on hangers in my closet.

I don’t have any expensive jewellery. I prefer throw away costume pieces. I recently bought an tall Ikea dresser with a lift up mirrored lid and a shallow tray for jewellery. I would prefer my necklaces to be hung up so I can see them easily but I don’t have room.

i chose "armoire in plain sight" but it isn't quite accurate. i have a large frame about 2' x 3' with chicken wire that hangs on the wall in our master bedroom, behind the master bath door. it's always hidden when that door is open, which it is 99% of the time. i have little S hooks that hold my necklaces, bracelets and the hook earrings i just put directly on the wire. i love this arrangement because i can see at a glance everything i have, and i noticed it really helped me make the most of my collection- nothing sits forgotten in the back of a drawer and never gets worn. and the vintage costume jewelry still gets to be seen and enjoyed, if not worn. it works for me, tho I'm about to add another small frame since I've outgrown this one!
ETA i don't have anything worth over $50, most was probably $20, so I'm not very concerned about theft.

I have two of them. One was mine, the other was my Grandmas. They both are empty! I don't really wear dress-up jewelry, just real gold stuff.
I had a family heirloom Mother's ring stolen out of a jewelry box a long time ago. If it were hidden, I would still have it!
So, I don't keep the jewelry in the armoire …

I recently did my closet with ikea pax and got pull out drawers for jewelry with trays.
I also have my Indian jewelry that I use very rarely in our bank locker.

I have a jewrley box that was my grandmas that sits on the dresser. My 'everyday' stuff goes in it - my simple wedding band that I wear by itself, a Tiffany necklace that I wear most days, my watch. It I also have some hooks in my closet where I hang some longer necklaces that are just costume stuff. Then I have a jewelry box that hangs in my closet that has been built into the wall so it looks like a photo frame, but behind the frame it opens up and I store my 'good' stuff there - family pearls, diamond rings & earrings, etc.

I have two vintage jewelry boxes (the small sit-on-the-dresser type) that hold some of my jewelry, and most of my necklaces, earrings, and brooches are all out in the open, hanging on display/organizer pieces on the wall. My collection of bracelets and the watches I own are on bracelet display pieces on my dresser. I don't have anything VERY expensive, but I've never even thought about 'hiding' it. Quite honestly, any burglar would be hard-pressed (I think) to figure out what's just costume vs. what's actually expensive, in among the display. I have a couple smallish diamond pieces, some vintage and new Native American silver/turquoise pieces, and a couple pairs of sterling silver earrings, and they're in the same display with my 1950s estate sale / thrift store pieces.
We DO need to get an extra rider on our homeowner's insurance to cover some of those personal items (jewelry, DH's guitars, guns, etc.), but I'm not going to let the small chance of a robbery affect how I will- or won't- display our possessions inside our home.
