I would feel bad for the thief breaking into my house thinking there might be valuable jewelry in my armoire.

i chose "armoire in plain sight" but it isn't quite accurate. i have a large frame about 2' x 3' with chicken wire that hangs on the wall in our master bedroom, behind the master bath door. it's always hidden when that door is open, which it is 99% of the time. i have little S hooks that hold my necklaces, bracelets and the hook earrings i just put directly on the wire. i love this arrangement because i can see at a glance everything i have, and i noticed it really helped me make the most of my collection- nothing sits forgotten in the back of a drawer and never gets worn. and the vintage costume jewelry still gets to be seen and enjoyed, if not worn. it works for me, tho I'm about to add another small frame since I've outgrown this one!
ETA i don't have anything worth over $50, most was probably $20, so I'm not very concerned about theft.
Hold up... sidebar. Blue tulip you look great. I love your hair and have you lost weight or something? I did a double take.

My jewelry isn't nice enough to bother stealing. I don't wear enough to bother getting nice pieces. I keep mine in my closet. When we were robbed, right before Christmas, the bastards took only electronics. They could have taken jewelry, piled up packages of christmas gifts, other valuable items. They just wanted laptops and tablets. I think they took the three gifts I had wrapped under the tree out of spite. It's been three years and I'm still not over the anger of it. My house was broken in to twice within 6 months several years ago. First time was in the summer, and they took my sons Wii and Xbox360 and all the games/controllers. They also took a broken DVD player. I am still furious they stole from my son. We spent the remainder of the time living in that house literally putting electronics in a laundry basket in the trunk of the car every time we left the house. I tell you, the feeling of not knowing your home is safe is the worst feeling in the world. Second time was over Christmas. We returned home to find a door busted in, and the house freezing. This time was more personal. They took the tv. Whatever. BUT they also went in my bedroom and took a specific pair of boots out of my closet. I also had a couple bras on a night stand that I was planning to return. I never felt safe in that house again, and that's when I fell in the bad habit of sleeping on the couch. My bedroom was never "mine" again.

I have two of them. One was mine, the other was my Grandmas. They both are empty! I don't really wear dress-up jewelry, just real gold stuff.
I had a family heirloom Mother's ring stolen out of a jewelry box a long time ago. If it were hidden, I would still have it!
So, I don't keep the jewelry in the armoire … I don't own alot of jewelry. But what I do own is either quite expensive, or costume. The expensive stuff is hidden away - for exactly that reason. I had a very special ring (Grandmother's engagement) and necklace (given to me on my son's first birthday) stolen. I know it was one of two people, but the pieces are gone. Other much more expensive jewelry was left untouched. It's damaged my relationship with one of the two people, because it's in the back of my mind. After that loss, I have a box with the costume jewelry out. I'm still to lazy to wear it. The more expensive jewelry would be extremely difficult for someone to find. In fact, I worry if something happens to me, it'll be gone forever. The good thing is my house was robbed (twice) by people that I'm convinced knew me (one of the two people that likely stole the necklace and ring)- and my jewelry was safe.

I would have never guessed you had 65 to lose. You look beautiful! The changing hair doesn't surprise me though. LOL. Remember my hair disaster you helped me with? I had it lightened multiple times and it was STILL BRASSY. (pravana can kiss my ass). Anyway, I finally got a bunch cut off Sunday and it's finally gone! (2.5 YEARS)

oh I was queen of the flattering selfie angle lol! my first goal is 84lbs and that still technically puts me at "overweight" for being 5'4, so it was definitely there! I started at a size 18, and just bought size 10 jeans a couple weeks ago. it's been an amazing experience so far! man, that's crazy that color was with you for SO long! I can commiserate about those lingering colors- the ends of my hair that had previously had green in them kept neutralizing my pink, so as they faded they always went brownish. finally I dyed them all blue and purple with pink fades a couple weeks ago because I was sick of dealing with it.

My bedroom was never "mine" again. It really is such a terrible feeling. We moved out of that house 6 months after the break-in and it'll be three years next week since it happened, and I still have moments of panic when I leave the house that someone will break in while I'm gone. And we live in a very low crime area now. They went in my bedroom too and rifled through my nightstand and dresser. But they didn't take personal items. Sorry about the hijack OP

Mine is in a box in my bedside table. When my sister was robbed last year, they went through the wardrobe etc and got the hidden stuff anyway so it didn't really matter 😥 I like having mine where I can see and wear it often.

Yes, it really is a gamble on where you keep it. If you have been married for 25 years and received jewelry for most of the first 5 to 6 years (I'm talking items in the $750 to $1,500 range each) and then started a Pandora collection, the cost of your jewelry box will add up quickly.
It's such a shame we have to plan for the worst and I understand the feeling of violation from robbery. My mom's jewelry was stolen about 10 years ago and all the family treasures were gone in an instant--my dad had designed several pieces for my mom during their marriage and they were one of a kind and priceless to us.
I don't feel any closer to an answer yet.

I've heard that most people hide stuff in their master bedroom, so that's where the criminals look first for valuables. I doubt if there's a place in the bedroom where something could be hidden and not found by a crook.

In most cases, thieves will ransack your home/bedroom and find the jewelry anyway (unless it's seriously locked up). So if you think you'll get more use/enjoyment out of your jewelry by seeing it/wearing it, then you should get that visible mirror/armoire. Remember, it's just stuff. And I'm saying this as a victim of theft (all my jewelry was stolen - and was not left out visibly). That was our experience, too. The only thing they didn't touch was the diaper pail. Hide the jewelry in the diaper pail while on vacation is now a thought.

They opened every drawer and dumped them all out.

Armoire. The first time my home was broken into they only took our big screen and the laptop that was in the living room. The even moved the pictures out of the way to get to the wires and placed them on the sofa. Nice guys, right? The second time the man spent HOURS going through everything in my house - emptied pill bottles, Kleenex boxes, EVERYTHING was dumped out looking for jewelry. So unless it had been in a safe he would have found it. And he took it all, there was nothing left behind but my charm bracelet that he somehow missed on the bathroom counter. And the idiot used my pillow sham (not a pillow case) to carry it in so I had to replace that too! He didn’t touch any of the money he ran across during his search. We now have an alarm system and cameras inside and out.
