I started listening after seeing it mentioned here...just finished episode 5. I am trying to brace myself for disappointment and frustration since I know the outcome. Holy heck, it's so hard to listen to those police interviews. I understand having to build a case, but it just seems like he had way too much time/opportunity to clean up.
Just so sick and so sad all around. What a disturbed family.
I also don't get the recorded and video taped journaling?! So creepy. I mean I make voice memos every once in a while to remember stuff, but the way they talk about their feelings and how he talked about "girls" like they said he was just trying to find someone to fool. He def takes sociopath to a whole other level. Feel so bad for her family and how they must feel with what he did to those poor kids too.

Wow! I’ve been listening to all them and was hoping I didn’t have to wait lol. Josh and his father are creepy. And the poor boys, especially Charlie, who said his mom is in the desert. I am really hoping they can find her. What an emotional journey for her family and friends.

I’m going to listen to this tomorrow. I have been really caught up in the Chris Watts case and was looking for something else.
I also loved Ann Rule and read Small Sacrifices. I’ve seen the TV movie with Farrah dozens of times. The two surviving kids were adopted by the prosecutor I think. I was so fascinated when she wrote about Ted Bundy and revealed that she had worked with him.

This has been my long run company for a few weeks. Makes me so upset for her and her sons.

I had never listened to a Podcast before, and now I can’t get enough. Today I cried in the car listening to it. It is a sad situation. There was obviously mental illness at play here and abuse, so much abuse. It is easy to play armchair quarterback or to say if it were me I would have just left. I think her religion played such a part in everything that she “saw” past a lot of the problems, or justified them. I do wish her family and friends were more supportive. Even his sister could have been more supportive and encouraging.
I am looking forward to hearing the rest of it.
I am trying to take some things away from it. My husband although annoys me a lot he is a good man. He is good father to all of our boys. He has stood beside me through all the trials of being Foster parents and through an adoption and now another. He works full time and even though I don’t he knows I have work , I just report to a tougher 2 year old boss, lol. He values my time as a Mother and supports me, and is an equal partner in both decisions, parenting (not babysitting his children) and housework. Listening has really opened my eyes to how fortunate I truly am.

This may be one of the scarier stories I have ever read or listened to. It was so obvious he did something to her but within the confines of the law, there was just no action that could be taken.
I will never forget the social worker’s 911 call when she dropped them off at the house just before it blew up. UGH...

Who has listened to this week’s episode?
It’s insane. It goes a lot more into Steve (her FIL) and his obsession with her.

I may save it for the weekend, when I'll be in the car taking dd back to college. I have looked at the Reddit posts about the episode, though. I can barely stand to listen to all this. I thought I knew so much about this case, but there's just so much I had no idea about. I keep thinking about the Powell family. I wonder if Alina Powell is familiar with any of this information, such as the fact that her sick father collected Susan's used tampons and nail polish remover-soaked cotton balls. Has she changed her opinion on anything or will she defend her father and brother in the face of all the evidence that something was seriously wrong with both of them and that it's pretty much incontrovertible that Josh killed his wife and that her other brother and father knew all about it?

Oh my gosh, this episode was SO creepy! Those songs were just bizarre. I never heard anything about this case before I got the podcast after reading a thread here on podcasts. It’s very well done.

I binged this a week or so ago after reading about it here. Holy Hell.
I am just seeing a new episode is out. Will be listening soon.
I feel like Josh was seriously mentally ill. A monster, for sure. But definitely sick. Now Steve? I can't give him any benefit of the doubt. He seems like just a horrible HORRIBLE human being.

I listened to Bear Brook a couple weeks ago, that was the first true crime podcast I've listened too. I grew up not too far from the town where the bodies were found. In middle school, we went to that state park for 3 days for outdoor education. I can't remember the dates I went (it was a long time ago ), but it probably would have been sometime within the same year the bodies were found. That thought creeped me out while I was listening. I bookmarked this thread. I've been getting into podcasts the last few months after my nephew started one and asked me to check it out. (His isn't true crime, it's comic book/super hero/movie/pop culture).

This one had been on my list to listen to, but due to this thread I went ahead and listened next. It is SO good. This guy...I so wish Susan had been able to get away when she first started feeling weird and wrote that will/letter in case something happened to her! I just don’t even know what to say. I only got a few minutes in to the new episode - THOSE SONGS. OMG WTF. I don’t know what to say about that either. SO creepy. And did he think he was a good singer?

Thanks for the recommendation. I don't listen to a lot of podcasts but I'll check this one out. Susan Powell's husband fled to (and ultimately killed his children in) my hometown. I enjoy true crime stories and her case is fascinating.

I just started listening a couple days ago. So, did Steve honestly believe Josh that Susan just took off? Anyway, I remembered my STBXH mention that the Powells were in our ward back when they lived in Yakima. But, apparently he was their home teacher. He helped Josh move when they left Yakima. I never met them as far as I know... or don't remember if I did. STBXH says Josh was super creepy, but Susan was sweet. I'm like... Totally weirded out.

There are mentions later on in the podcast about how he hopes she comes home, and Josh rejects her, and she moves into his bedroom. That's crazy that they were in your ward. Also, hijack: STBXH? You okay?

Ok, I have not listened to many podcasts except for some whole food/nutrition ones. Y'all have got me hooked on this one!! I started listening on my ride home from my son's this weekend. I am only on "wake up little Susie". Can we just say whackadoos? Steve? Oh my gosh, I would have run from him so fast. Even in my "getting to know you" newlywed stage.
I was trying to listen just a short while ago and a burst of activity in the office caused me to have to stop. These people just need to move along. Don't they know I am listening to some crazy stuff here and I need to hear it all.
Poor Susan and those little boys. I just can't even imagine.

I can't remember now...but was there some event/tipping point before she 'went missing' that caused Josh to kill her? I don't recall them talking about any major issue.

The marriage never worked very well, and after 20 years it’s time to make different choices.
