We got a new bed last week. Bought the fancy, expensive waterproof mattress pad that is supposed to warranty the bed for 10 years (was a requirement for the warranty). DS was sick last night so we let him sleep in our bed. I just sat down on the bed and realized that he wet the bed. I had our old mattress protector on top of the new mattress pad. Both were wet. I took off the new protector and there isn’t a visible stain but it smells like pee. Please reassure me that this will be covered by the warranty. Ugh.

It sure sounds like it should be.
I swear by Nature's Miracle stuff if you have to deal with it yourself, but I hope not. And I hope your kiddo is feeling much better!

Besides the pee smell, they said that with this type of mattress, keeping liquid out is important because it can break down the foam

No advice but I hope you can get it fixed one way or another. Things like that really suck. When they happen to me, I hear that quote in my head, “THIS is why we can’t have nice things!!”

Hopefully the smell was just because of proximity to the mattress pad cover and will dissipate now that it's been removed.

It's a good thing for him, you love him so much.
Sorry that happened to your new bed. That sucks.

Sprinkle generously with baking soda. When it's dry and all clumped together, vacuum it up and you should be good to go.

Nature's Miracle is really good stuff, but make sure that you can use it w/o voiding your warranty. I'd call the mattress company. Hope ds is feeling better.

If the mattress pad is waterproof, the bed shouldn’t smell at all. I hope they will make it right for you since the pad was supposed to prevent this from happening.
And I will also sing the praises of Nature’s Miracle. One of my cats wouldn’t be alive right now if it wasn’t the amazing product that it is. For some strange reason, she decided to pee on my bed. And I was in the room at the time and caught her doing it. (Vet checked for urinary infection after this and she was fine. Just being a bad kitty). The mattress itself wasn’t touched, but I treated the sheets, blanket, mattress pad, and one decorator pillow with Nature’s Miracle before putting them through the laundry.
Nature’s Miracle has live bacteria that create enzymes that actually obliterate the urine components. It will even eat dried sticky yellow cat pee! I learned that after seeing my big male kitty standing in the litter box so that his pee splashed on the litter box wall and drops splashed out onto the tile behind the litter box. When I went to clean what I witnessed him doing, I found old overspray dried on drops from a prior incident. I now use deep Rubbermaid tubs instead of cat boxes so that he cannot pee over the edge.
All this was to say that that stuff is truly amazing and if they will not exchange your mattress, Nature’s Miracle now makes a foam spray that would treat the mattress without soaking all the way into it like a liquid would. I have not used the foam spray myself, but if I was in your position, I wouldn’t hesitate to try it.
I didn’t want to wash the bedding without treating the wet area because I pictured diluted cat pee on the whole set of sheets. I could not smell anything before I put the bedding through the wash. I also tested it with my black light pee finder both before and after treating with the NM and it did not glow after treating it. Cat pee is the worst smell on earth!

If it got to your mattress they a supposedly water proud mattress pad then the mattress pad isn’t water proof.
I’ve never had anything go thru a water proof mattress pad. Weird
I’d definitely call the mattress company

I'm so sorry. I would call the company for sure.
I'll also second Nature's Miracle - it's not cheap but it works (2 senior kitties here and 2 kids who bed wet until 11/12...I've plenty of experience with it)

i have several of those mattress pads, but we bought them on amazon for way less. anyway, they are waterproof but they breathe- you can pour a cup of water on them and it won't go thru, but you can put your mouth up to it and blow air thru it. your mattress was not wet, correct? so I would guess some of the smell was carried in thru the breathable factor but now will go away quickly. if it was wet tho, then yes I'd call.
