Update 14 December I went for a follow up appointment today which I thought was just about my surgery. However it turns out that I had a bowel tumour and that's hat caused the weakness which led to the perforation. This is unrelated to my breast cancer but IS related to the bowel cancer I had 9 years ago. They want me to recover from this surgery and then I will have to have more, different, chemo. I am in total shock and struggling to stay positive. My brain is finally starting to cooperate with my hands and I can write a post. Thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers, cards and good wishes while I've been in hospital and recovering. Thank you especially to JoP for sharing my partner's Facebook updates and kiwigirl for sending on all the cards. I feel very lucky to have so many people thinking of me. I'm still kind of in shock about what happened, to go from feeling normal (apart from chemo) to being in ICU happened so quickly, and I have lost whole chunks of my memories. That might be a good thing. I ended up having two major bowel surgeries and of course being on chemo complicated everything. Then I discovered I'm allergic to Fentanyl and had the most awful hallucinations. I'm home now, but still very weak so I am mostly staying upstairs because that's where our bathroom is. I have never wanted to live in a one-storey house more than I do at the moment! I'm trying to keep moving and get stronger every day but it is up and down. Yesterday was terrible, today I feel a bit better. My blood tests are all still "off" but they're moving in the right direction. Because of the chemo and my other issues it's hard to get a clear picture. I'm still anaemic and lacking potassium. My inflammation markers and white blood cells are high but coming down. I think I came pretty close to dying. It's quite a lot to get my head round. I'm concentrating on just being grateful for each moment right now.

craftykitten, how lovely to hear from you! You have been through such a rough time, you must be relieved to be home. Hopefully there will be district nurses to help with your recouperation? I know starting to be mobile can help with recovery but there is a fine line between moving about and doing too much. I'm sending you best wishes for a gentle recovery, no more nasty, shock illnesses and little steps in the right direction.
