I'm sad to read this. I used to love watching Laverne & Shirley, more so than Happy Days.

Her movies were amazing. A League of their own and Awakenings are 2 of my top ten movies....
She was the first female director to A) get nominated for an Oscar and B) make more than 100 million on a movie. Both were for BIG.

This isn't helping my lack of Christmas cheer.

Very saddened to hear of her passing. Loved Laverne and Shirley, and Big along with League of Their Own are favorite movies of mine.

That is so sad, she was awesome as Laverne but I LOVED her as a producer or whatever her title was.. Her brother was also brilliant...

That's a shame. She was a very talented director. May her memory be for a blessing.

WHAT? ?? i loved her. here is my Penny Marshall celebrity sighting story: i was a freshman in college when the movie she directed, "Jumping Jack Flash" came out. my friend and I went down to the (then) Graumann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood to watch the movie on opening night. for whatever reason, Penny Marshall was there. I remember running to a newstand to see if there was a Jumping Jack Flash movie ad in the Calendar section so I could have her autograph it. there was a full page ad and she was nice enough to sign. while we were walking in the theatre, we noticed she was going in too. she smiled at us and proceeds to sit in the seats in front of us. (no assigned seating back then. LOL). halfway through the movie, she and her companion got up to leave. she sees us and says "enjoy the rest of the movie". i remember putting that signed ad on the back of my dorm room door for the rest of the year.

I loved her book she wrote a while back. Really funny but I was pretty freaked out about how much drugs she did and her "free" lifestyle. Still love her though.
