I'm glad I already know what happens! April is a long time to wait. And they have a LOT of ground to cover in the last eight episodes if they're going to get through the whole book.

If they keep renewing the show I have no problem seeing Jamie every 6 months. Much better than waiting 9 months for Sleepy Hollow or Downton Abby.

I was really turned off by 2 rape scenes in one hour. This is part of why I have never read the books. That being said, I enjoyed seeing what was going on from Frank's perspective. Most "time travel" shows don't address that, or conveniently deliver the person back when they came from with no time gap. Even though I knew it wouldn't happen, I was SO rooting for them to be reunited at the stones.

When it went dark after Claire got to Craigh Na Dun, I almost lost it. I thought that was the end of the show and for some reason, the writers were sending her back to Frank. But it went on to an even more frustrating ending.
Six months is a really long time to wait. They need to do a proper 20+ episode run and space it out over 9 months. That would make me much happier.
It was interesting how they clipped the meeting with Horrocks and the journey back to Craigh Na Dun. I was thinking it was going to be a lot of detail there to make it all work and make sense. But I kept thinking they would do the scene where she almost drowns in the river in the escape and I was worried for her. Seeing the dresses and how much heavy fabric Claire was wearing made me a bit panicky for her!

I did not read the books, I have a question which I will ask in the no-spoiler feature. If someone who can answer will do so in the same fashion - thanks! Frank sees the highlander early on watching Claire in the window. Was that Jamie? Did she travel back in time before? Does she forget what happens in the past when she goes back to her own time?

And we got to see wee Rodger!

To answer this: The ghost may or may not have been Jamie. It's never really concretely said in the books, although in the books Frank didn't see the man well enough to describe him other than his clothing. The "ran away with a man idea" was more left to our imagination.
Claire does go back again, but not before 1743. But she remembers everything.

My husband noted it sure was rape-y in 18th century Scotland, judging from the show. I didn't have the heart to tell him what's coming, and I really don't know how they're going to address that scene without making it terrible for everyone watching. I guess they can't, really. The whipping was bad enough. I'm really not looking forward to that rape, or the other future rapes. Yeeesh.

According to the frequently asked questions on Diana gabaldon's site "Who is the ghost in Outlander? (SPOILER) The ghost is Jamie--but as for how it fits into the story, All Will Be Explained--in King, Farewell which is Book Five {running and ducking}" Since that is not book 5 I've seen in other places that it will be explained in the last book.

Great episode. Not where I was thinking they would break for the next 6 months though!
For those who read the book, do you think the Frank scenes fit? As I was watching the episode, I kept telling my DH that this wasn't in the book at all (unless it comes in a later book that I haven't finished yet). I think for me the scene where they could "hear" each other through the stones made the connection between her and Jamie seem less since you can see how much she is in love and still longs for Frank. If i remember correctly, in the book, although she mentions missing Frank in several parts, i didn't get that deep of an impression of that love. Correct me if I'm wrong please.
Also, did anyone see the dragonfly in amber given to Claire? Homage to the next book?

I thought the Frank scenes were a great addition. One thing in the book is for some time after they are married there is still some disconnect in the book between Claire and Jamie in that she still plans to return to Frank. She is conscious that Jamie is falling deeply in love with her and she doesn't want to break his heart. That mental struggle she feels is a pretty big part of the story. I think the scene at Craigh na Dun help drive that point to viewers who have not read the book and listened to Claire's internal monologue.

See, I have read the books, and I didn't get the huge love for Frank?! So I'm not getting the big focus here. In fact I feel the only reason why she DID decide to go back was for another reason, NOT for Frank.

The dragonfly gift was in the book sort of just how they had it. They didn't have to keep it in the story or highlight it though so who knows what it means in terms of the show, but it is directly from the book.
Also I think claire loved Frank but she hadn't really connected deeply with him they were separated by the war for so long, then just before she time travels frank starts up with the whole 'if you cheated I would understand, you know since it was such a long time and all' thing which to me when i read the book it seemed so much like his own admission, that just gave me a really sour impression of Frank. An impression which is born out to be right in later books. I never really knew how much Clair really loved Frank until she thinks of him as if he is there at the gathering in maybe Drums of Autumn? She really did love him and from the books I never really understood why. But the series gives a better impression of Frank and it makes the choice and the inner conflict of Claire more real for me.

OP I agree-I simply cannot believe we have to wait until April 4th for the next episode!!!! And by the way, Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ is my new favourite swear. I just love it! Even though as a Catholic I shouldn't be using it. But it has such a nice ring to it!
About the episode-I thought they did a great job and I loved this episode just like all of the others. I too was a bit mystified by Claire's continued love for Frank and her continued desire to get back to him (c'mon, you've got Jamie!-who wants dodgy old Frank?) But I do think they are following her feelings in the book even though the scene of Frank and Claire on Craigh Na Dun at the same time was never in the book.
I did love seeing the addition of Frank searching for Claire, (and seeing wee Rodger-wasn't he just the sweetest little fellow?) and all that he went through trying to find her. That wasn't in the book, but I really liked seeing it and I think it helped to round out the story.
And for those Peas who haven't read the books-what the heck are ya waiting for? Grab them and start reading! They are extraordinary! I've been an avid reader (I love reading almost more than anything else) for 48 years and "Outlander" had now climbed to my number 1 best ever book, and Diana as my favourite writer of all time. She is truly amazing!

I agree that the tv show has done a beautiful job showing a Claire who was really torn between the two. I like what they did with Frank here. I always really felt for Frank in the next books, it would be very hard to be him. I'm re-listening to the 3rd book and I really feel for both of them, Claire and Frank.

Yes that is Jamie, it happened while Claire and Bree (her child with Jamie) were in the present. Jamie thought it was all a dream, his own time travel into the future, but before Claire ever left for the first time.
Frank really is a good man, and takes Claire back and claims the child as his and raises her.
Her story and more of what happens is in the novel "Dragonfly in Amber"
Remember the wedding gift given to her by Hugh Munro?

So I just read link, a recap. And it makes me wonder about one thing in the episode. Do you think Claire and Frank heard each other at Craigh an Dun? The recap above says they do, but to me Frank leaves the stones defeated. If he really did hear Claire I don't think he would have left so soon. I could be convinced that Claire heard him

From my take on what I saw in the show, Claire heard Frank, but he didn't hear her.
