"Police say Anna was "in the religious-based counseling care of Priscilla having met through a prayer network at Church for the Nations in Phoenix." [Anna] Collum's husband also allegedly told police that two days before the murder he learned that Anna was angry with Priscilla for 'taking the holy spirit from her' and that Anna intended on "hurting Priscilla for what she had done." Anna turned herself in to the Tucson Police Department. She has been charged with first-degree murder." www.abc15.com/news/crime/update-arrest-made-after-woman-found-dead-at-north-phoenix-apartmentIt's fine for communities to help each other. But there are hundreds of reason that professionals must train for YEARS before counseling those with mental health issues. This is one of the reasons.

That was very sad. I didn't read the article but maybe she was a trained professional? Even trained doctors can be harmed by their patients. At my church the counselors have had years of training

Nope. Her LinkedIn says BS in Chemistry.
Yes, professionals get killed too. But at what rate vs. untrained church "counselors"?
It's just a horrible idea to counsel mental health issues through untrained well-meaning non-professionals.

Unfortunate. However, isn’t this the SOP in churches?
Not saying it is right. In fact, we have been having an issue with a relative whose church flat out refuses any psychiatry or related medicines. It’s a freaking mess.
Untrained counselors in churches is a recipe for disaster. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

What a terrible outcome that didn't need to happen at all. If Anna had been treated by a board certified psychiatrist, as she should have been from the first, this very likely would never have happened. As Zingermack said sometimes psychiatrists are killed too, but I think it is a lot less likely. Anna should have been treated by a professional and would have most likely been on the correct medication for her medical condition.
Instead she was told the holy spirit was taken away from her.
Counselors at church need to know their limits. Marriage counseling-okay. But talking to or treating mentally ill people-stay the heck away and refer them to the proper medical professionals!

So I read the article and I'd like to know why Anna's husband didn't call for help when she told him she wanted to hurt her. His gun also went missing. I don't think the counselor told her she took away the Holy spirit, but that's what she believed which should have shown how delusional she was. Sounds like many mistakes were made.
