**UPDATE** DH’s boss just texted him that she found the gift card in her wallet, where she had put it so she didn’t misplace it! 😂 She is popping it in the mail since DH is off next week. Problem solved!
So DH just came home from work with a conundrum so we’re throwing it out to Pea-land:
His boss game him a very nice gift, or at least meant to... she gave him a box with two spaces, one for a gift card and the other for an accompanying card. The card has the “to DH, from boss”, amount, and “Happy Holidays” all filled out by boss, but there is no gift card, just an empty slot where one would be. She has two young energetic boys, so DH is thinking either they got into it and took it to play with or boss just forgot (because of the two aforementioned energetic boys!). DH doesn’t want to say anything. I think the boss would be mortified to know that she gave him an empty box, and I would personally want to know that I goofed. It’s the holidays, it happens!
What say the Peas? 🤔

I would say something. Making it lighthearted and funny.

I would have said something when I got the box and showed her on the spot.

$5 no comment (Although it would be easier for $5.). More $$, yes he should say something.

I would want someone to tell me if I did that. The fact that there's an amount written there means there's no doubt about the intention. I'd be so embarrassed if I realized down the road (like if I discovered the gift card in my house at some point) that I'd given the a non-gift.

As 'embarrassing' as it is I would say something..
Make it funny... Say something like "thanks for the box, it's exactly what I needed" I don't know.. but something like that.

I would find a casual way to mention it. You don't want his boss to think that he's ungrateful.

Ugh, I hate stuff like that! What is the amount that was written on the accompanying card? How long has he worked there? Do they have a good relationship? Does he have co-workers that received the same gift? I think I'd say something.

I would say something. It would really be really embarrassing if the boss finds the card at some point down the road and asks your husband "why didn't you tell me?"

I need more info. Is it a VISA type gift card? Or a random chain-type store gift card?
And the amount? "A very nice gift" is different to some. If it's $50 or more, I would probably say something because when/if Boss finds the gift card card it will be pretty obvious she didn't include it in someone's gift.
If it's a smaller amount I might not say anything.
Awkward...

For a significant amount, she would want to know in case it was misplaced somewhere. If they have a good relationship, it should be fine.

I collected $ from co workers to buy one gift card for the boss. One year I accidentally forgot to enclose the gift card in the card. Then. I took off one week. The rumor mill went nuts. My boss didnt say anything to me. Luckily, a co worker did and informed me what people said about me. I became a thief, should be arrested, should be fired, blah, blah, blah I accidentally put the gift card in a card for my Husbands boss. I rectified my mistake and told everyone who contributed what happened. Most understood the error. A few said, "If she makes an error with a Christmas gift, should we trust her to not make errors at work?" Unfortunately, those people died. ( yes, a totally died). I did not attend their funeral.

This reminds me of the year I got movie gift cards in holders that you slide the card in but don’t seal it for my son’s teachers - 8 total. Well, the night he passed them out I found one card in his uniform pocket. Had no idea who didn’t get their card but instead got an empty holder. I had to email them all and ask. So embarrassing that they thought we had stuffed them. But, we did find the poor teacher and gave her the card.
