I used to post photos in the weekly garage sale threads, but my desk top that I uploaded photos to conked out so I had to wait til I got a new one. Finally had a chance to take some photos of some recent finds. Coffee table decor. The silver-plated coffee/tea pot, creamer and sugar bowl were $4, the tray was $1 and the glass vase with faux hydrangea was a quarter. All of the next items were from two different sales that had costume jewelry 5/$1. The tie clips were considered a 'set' so it was twenty cents for all three, lol. I thought it was appropriate that they had copper accents, since dh is a plumber. I picked up several pieces of rhinestone jewelry, brooches, necklaces, bracelets and clip on earrings. The evening clutch was $2 at a yard sale, and the necklace was $3. The gloves were from the thrift store, brand new still with the size tag on them. I paid $2.50 for them on half off day. The pocket watch was only $1 and works perfectly. I purchased two of these cute little wine bags for a quarter a piece at a church sale. This ceramic pumpkin was $1. The pink suede boots were from the thrift store, priced at $7.99 Thanks for looking. I didn't get out to any sales or do any thrifting this weekend, but if anyone else did I'd love to hear about it!

I LOVE the pocket watch. I have no idea where you do garage sales, but they are a zillion times better than my local ones. That was obvious from the pictures. So I'll give ya $2 for the watch! can we make a deal

Love that rhinestone brooch. And those pink boots are awesome. Your Thrift Store has much better stuff than mine!

You find great items and in such good condition.
But I really want to know about your photography of them! The close-ups of the jewelry are crisp. I assume a DSLR, but what lens are you using?

Those boots are awesome! Just curious, how do you sanitize shoes from garage sales/goodwill.

Thanks, ladies.
Anxiousmom, I have a few brooches that I have picked up over the years, from vintage to newer ones.
Leslie, maybe we can swing a deal, lol.
Spongemom Scrappants, I actually use the Canon 18-55mm IS kit lens for close ups. It is fairly close focusing and I find it sharp for those kinds of shots. I do not use it as a portrait lens, or as a landscape lens, but I do like it for close ups.
Mzza111, to be honest I don't sanitize them. I'm not much of a germaphobe or too worried about it, and the things I buy seem to be barely worn and are sometimes as new with no wear at all on the treads. I find that footwear is one of those things that people buy and quickly deem inappropriate, usually because something just doesn't fit right and isn't comfortable. When shoes/boots fit well, people tend to wear them, whereas when they don't and can't use them, they tend to donate them or sell them.
It is the same way with clothes. Many people would be surprised how much brand new with tags, or just like new stuff there is at thrift stores and garage sales. There are some items that are clearly worn, worn out, and stained, but I don't come across that kind of stuff very often, and just bypass it when I do.

I have tons of my mother and grandmother's costume jewelry. Don't know if I could part with it at a garage sale.

You find some great deals! In the years we used to go to garage sales, I never found anything close to the cool things you find.

I love the boots! And I have to say, I LOVE your posts and your finds. I try to get to a few thrift stores when I'm in the area where they're located. And while I've found some stuff for the kids, I rarely find anything REALLY good.
Will you still be able to find stuff in the winter? Or is it really only through the nicer weather months?

Awesome finds!
How many garage sales do you hit in a day/weekend? Or how long are you out for?

When I grow up, I want to be Heartcat. You find the very best stuff! I'd even be happy to just tag along and watch you negotiate your purchases. I love when you post pictures of what you find out there.
My son told me this afternoon that he and his girlfriend are going to be clothing models for a friend of hers. Ths friend goes to yard sales and thrift stores and has a real eye for what people in their age bracket would buy. Mostly vintage stuff from the 70s and 80s. She sells mostly clothing, but also vintage concert things, quirky pins, coffee mugs, etc. My son's girlfriend has modeled for her in the past, and she recently met my son and wants him to do the men's clothing. My son said she buys things for 1 to 5 bucks and sells them for 50 to 75, depending on what it is. I'm anxious to see the pictures of the two of them.
Heartcat, you could do the same thing for my age bracket! You find the best stuff, and could easily resell it when you tire of it. You are just obligated to let us have first dibs, okay?

Dori, what kind of horses were these and what kinds of competitions did you do? 950nancy, I envy you. I have very few things that have passed down through our family. Nothing from my dad's side. I think that is one of the reasons that I like vintage things. I am sentimental and like that link to the past, even when it isn't 'my' specific past. Brandy, garage sales will wind down in the next few weeks. I will miss them! But I will still go to thrift stores over the winter, though I do not find and buy nearly as much as I do during the yard sale season. Ashley, it depends on how many sales are listed. Days when there are town wide sales, we might go for four or five hours. On a normal day, we will probably be out for a couple of hours. Z*G, no I do not sell anything, I only buy things for my personal use, or on occasion for a friend or family member. Lexica, I know there are people who do that, who make some extra money, and whose efforts are appreciated by those who collect various items and might not otherwise be able to find them. Personally, I have never done that. I have always had such good luck at yard sales. In earlier years when times were tougher, it was a big help on our family budget. Now it is still a help, but I mostly just enjoy it. I am a bit superstitious that if I were to start buying things for resale that my luck would dry up. And the few things that I do have a bit of knowledge about, that might be collectible or desired by others, I usually only find enough of for personal use anyways. Thanks for looking, everyone and allowing me to share.
