Don't know either of those names. Any backstory links? Kristina Contes was involved in Hall of Famegate. Creating Keepsakes, the most popular scrapbook magazine had a Hall of Fame reader submission contest every year. Kristina was one of the winners but she broke one of the rules. Participants were supposed to rake their own photos and one picture was taken by a friend. She figured it was no big deal but people were livid so she basically did a hair flip and stepped down.

*finishes consuming 30+ pages of Becky Higgins history* Wow. Just, wow. All I can say is 'common sense isn't quite as common as one would be lead to believe'.

Ugh, Becky. Stores would still be carrying her physical products if she had: (1) listened to customers when they asked OVER AND OVER AND OVER to create square corners; (2) made a clearer directory of all of her physical products and where to find them. I hate that there isn't a comprehensive list anywhere and there is no real description as to what the difference is between a value kit and a mini kit and whatever else she has; and (3) [and this one is most important] if she had stopped trying to "diversify" and just focused on her project life products. If she posted primarily about PROJECT LIFE on her social media and blog and ran promotions and giveaways and had a design team that actually created inspiring spreads instead of looking for people who just slipped the cards into pockets [there is nothing wrong with that, but you don't need "inspiration" to get how it would look] and frequently posted tips and ideas about USING HER PROJECT LIFE PRODUCTS instead of trying to market a fugly dress, sharing her favorite "bathroom air freshener" and trying to preach the Book of Mormon. UGH. As a die hard project life fan... I have created project life albums since 2013 and don't see myself stopping anytime, it's really frustrating that she ran such an awesome concept and business into the ground. I don't really use her products anymore, except for the page protectors & albums, but I still love the concept. She could've still been the top of things if she had worked on PROJECT LIFE instead of all her other random crap. Also, that international shipping is ridiculous. But it does make me curious that it's flat rate. I wonder if maybe 10+ Aussies could get together and place a large order, then split the shipping + whatever minimal shipping it would cost to ship w/in Australia from whoever actually placed the order? I absolutely agree. She had an awesome product. She could have had better designers and less of the same cards in her kits. She could have created more and better theme cards.

"2) Yes, the physical product lives on but yes, it is harder to find in as many brick & mortar places than in past years, unfortunately. This is not our choice. It’s up to what consumers purchase and what stores choose to carry. So so so many products can be found at shopbeckyhiggins.com." Too bad if you live outside the US and have to pay their RIDICULOUS shipping rates. $99 flat rate shipping to Australia... I hear you, I cringe at just having to pay the retail price that Spotlight charges on a full sized kit I have just been biding my time till they have a 40% off VIP coupon or I buy bits a pieces from gumtree/marketplace. I just picked up a stuffed shoe box of cards for $10. I have heard of people printing the cards that they have downloaded from the app, even the price of getting them printed on premium paper at officeworks would be so much cheaper.

Oh, but she at first claimed she did take the photo herself, which might fly (this was pre-smart phone selfies), but the photo was of her whitewater rafting and obviously taken from shore. Kinda hard to believe she could’ve taken it.

That was quite a story about her setting up her camera on a tripod with a timer on the shore, between bushes, lol.

Kristina credited the photographer who took the photo of her in her application! Which is kind of ridiculous. She broke a rule but CK didn’t seem to care until she was called on it by others who HAD followed the rules. I definitely think though she was predetermined as a winner. There were several people at CK who pushed her to enter. I don’t think it was the fact that Kristina broke the rules that had people so angry. They were more angry at CK. But it was her flippant, nasty attitude about the whole thing that set people off at her. She really went off the rails in a classless kind of way. And then people who had invested a lot of time and money for years entering realizing that the contest wasn’t as up and up as it should have been.

I want to say the other woman was named Bernadette something and I'm totally freaked I remember that. The NYT or LA Times actually ran a story about the Kristina Contes controversy.

The original Project Life was actually created and launched by Scrap Works in their Anthologie series and called Scrap Smart, then Bay Boxes. Those Bay Boxes were freaking awesome. So beautifully made and have held up well. One of my all-time favorite albums. I miss Scrap Works!
Kristine Contes? WTF is happening with whatever it is she is hawking now? I mean, mad props to her talent, because for sure I don't have anything she's got! Just wondering if it's any kind of licensing or permission issue to sell merch with celebrity likenesses unless she actually secured permission of all those celebs whose images she turned into tarot cards.

Bernadette is correct. The thread is linked on the history board. At least KC owned that she didn’t take the damn photo. Bernadette just looked like a fool trying to justify herself.

I have several Bay Boxes, they're great albums. They have beautiful pocket pages - clear pockets with a black backing. I took a class at CK Buffalo years ago on using these albums - it was so groundbreaking at the time!

I have two of the 12x12 black Bay Box albums and several packages of the protectors. I wish we could find them again! The whole system is just beautiful! I agree, ScrapWorks was great.
I hope Becky doesn’t end up out of business but what’s been stated above is sadly correct. If only she had stuck to promoting Project Life. Sad.

Dammit. I created my account her today just so I could ask what the deal is with PL and if its going away. *sigh* I know I can make my own cards but like the idea of buying sets, especially when they have cut outs and such.
*I used to post to 2Ps back in the day but fell out of scrapping completely, just getting back into using some PL stuff I bought a year ago.

I noticed Becky was quick to post the App wasn't going away but she didn't mention physical product. If they keep making the physical product they would be better off making smaller card kits, the larger kits had way too many of the same cards.

They'd be better off catering to modern interests, period. Scrapbooking may be a niche product but there's plenty of dollars for the companies who bring desirable products to market, rather than trying to steer the boat 180˚.

I’m assuming that’s $99 AUS? I wanted to buy some things from Cocoa Vanilla, and the $65 US shipping from Aus to US stopped me. And rates are only going up! I don’t understand why it’s soooo expensive to ship. Can you not get the Cocoa Vanilla from a US online store? I have ordered all of mine online from My Little Scrapbook Store. Cocoa Vanilla

I agree, but honestly I have so many cards from Becky, Simple Stories and elsewhere that I could scrapbook for decades and probably not run out of cards.

She is finally confirming what we suspected. I don't use Project Life but am still sad to see another scrapbooking company in this situation.

Yeah, it's sad that there is a decline in her cards, but honestly there are so many other great companies out there that make wonderful PL cards! My favorites are Ali Edwards, Studio Calico & Kelly Purkey but there are tons of options. No need to make your own cards if you'd rather buy, whether the official Project Life is around or not. Welcome to the boards, I hope you find your scrapping groove again!
