I have been scrapping for about 10 years. Mostly for myself and hubby to enjoy, but I have done a few gift albums here and there. Looking through my books, things are falling off the pages, and embellishments and stickers are already turning yellow!! WTF! Then, the icing on the cake was when my brother quietly brought to my attention that the albums I made for him documenting his childhood are falling apart and could I fix them for him. Talk about embarrassing.
I used many different adhesives over the years...seems that the majority just do not hold up. Then I realize that not everything is made acid free anymore...ok so now I am double peeved. Why am I shelling out thousands of dollars on product that doesn't last and is going to eventually eat my pages and ruin my pics?
Does this bother anyone else? Anyone switched to using only products that say acid free? I have been using ATG for about the past 2 years, and I think so far so good but who knows?! I feel like between dealing with these frustrations the last few days and the site closing, I need to lie down and go to sleep for a long, long time.
I guess this is just a PVM/vent post. Or tell me success stories and talk me down. If you really must, share horror stories so I can get even more worked up..

Yikes... I have had pretty good luck - started with CM supplies 20 years ago and they have held up great thankfully. Last few years I've used most of the mainstream companies and acid free atg adhesive and those have held up.
There was a short time about 10 years ago when I became a sahm I needed to save money and bought a ton of adhesive at Joann's, their brand, and also the Duck brand, and it all fell apart. I re-glued it with my ATG and it has been fine since.

Unrelated but I'm a pit mama too - I have a sweet 4 year old lady named Penny who has stolen our hearts. We rescued her from the shelter and she is the best dog ever - obedient, sweet, smart, loyal, great with kids and dogs.

I feel pretty good about the ATG, but I guess time will tell. I guess my biggest issue is, why do the manufacturers do this to us in the first place? We pay a lot of money to make memories that we want to last. It just seems so greedy and deceptive to me. I cannot think of one single scrapper who shells out the money we shell out thinking, Oh I hope this album last 2 years and 3 months.

Many of my albums are over 15 year old. I have had VERY FEW instances of items falling off. I used CM products for the first 4 years. Then I used the Duck adhesive for about 3 years. I have been using my ATG since 2006. But I live in a very dry climate. Do you get a lot of humidity? That might affect the stickiness. Many items that I had that did fall apart were usually from swaps...I think there was a time when many were using glue sticks for scrapping.

I have been scrapping since 1994 and haven't had much of an issue with things falling off. I started out with Yes glue and that stuff is like cement, I don't think you could get those pages apart if you soaked them in Undu. However, it was messy and I felt it dried really stiff. I have been using Herma squares and Dots since they came out. I have had some epoxy embellishments yellow, but luckily only noticed it on them in the packaging. Any I used on pages has a dark enough background that you can't tell. I have stopped using those completely.

I had problems with epoxy embellishments also - both on layouts and in packages- refuse to use that stuff now I also worry about stuff I put glossy accents on but so far it's been ok , crossing fingers

I guess this is just a PVM/vent post. Or tell me success stories and talk me down. If you really must, share horror stories so I can get even more worked up.. There is more to know than just "is it acid free" Metals are acid free but they can rust. Epoxies (coatings on glossy stickers and such) can yellow but that due to the type of plastic is made of not the presence of acid. You have to know each type of item and what to look out for. Acid makes paper crumbly (think cheap construction paper) but honestly I've never bought into the idea that acid in the paper would cause migratory damages to the photos; unless the photos were printed on acidic paper. Also, not all sticker, papers and such are manufactured with archivists in mind. Many of them are aiming to sell to other paper crafters who may not see their work as something they expect to be kept for generations. It is up to me to determine my goals and read labels to see if the items fit my goals.

Thanks for the responses, everyone! Good to see some of you aren't having these issues- it gives me hope!! I'm still upset with companies who sell cheap product (hehe) but mostly I'm upset with myself for not thinking long term and buying cheap stuff. Lesson learning and I'm going to stick with ATG and dots from now on.

I pretty much only use Scotch permanent double sided tape, and it has held up for a decade well. The only time it doesn't stay stuck is on pages with heavy glitter or flocking, which I now avoid like the plague.

I've been using one of the wet adhesives in hopes of that staying put forever.

I used some Adhesive Tech adhesive for about two years before I noticed my stuff was ALREADY falling apart. It made me so mad! I currently use the Xyron Cheetah and 3M Scrapbook Tape Runners, and have been for probably 7-8 years, with no problems. I think I'm one of the few people who uses the Cheetah as it's kind of hard to find these days (I order it online). I also love Glue Dots! I'd use the ATG, but I'm left handed and cannot seem to get that thing to work for me.
