I have a boneless ham and a honey baked ham soup mix but no bone. If I make ham and bean soup without a bone, will it turn out? Internet searches are not helping me. Stacy

I made ham and bean soup after Christmas, had a boneless Black Forest ham. I used chicken broth to cook instead of the water called for in my recipe, and added a bit more of the celery, carrots and ham. I doubled the amount of diced ham it called for, to make up for the bone. Turned out great, hubby raved about it. I say go for it!

Sure! I have made soup with bone-in meat and soup entirely without it. Vegetable soups don't have bones!
It might lack a little richness of flavor, but it'll be soup. If you can make it with some chicken or veg broth instead of straight water, that may help (but check the content of the soup mix to make sure there's not already bouillon or something in it).

Stacy I have fixed it that way and it turned out great. I just taste seasoning and go directly from memory on my Grandma doing bean soup every winter. And it is time for me to get a pot going by the weekend!

Yes! I buy the Ham Beens 15 Bean soup package all the time, and cut up a couple of smoked polish sausages in it and it turns out quite good. It does have a "ham flavor" packet included, but it's not very strong. Beans with ham chunks are really tasty, even without a bone. Use some beef or chicken bullion or stock, and don't forget the cornbread! Yum!

It's the only way I make it, as I'm not a huge fan of ham on it's own. The bone does add some flavor, but it also adds gelatin to the soup, which gives the broth a thicker feel. I use homemade chicken stock when I make soup, which I make from bones, so it does have that same feel. But I've also used broth with similar results. Don't add any salt to the mix until it's cooked because ham is salty. If I'm buying stock or broth, I'll buy low sodium or sodium free.

I just made a boneless ham and bean soup at Christmas and it was delicious! I cooked the dried beans with garlic and onion powder and a bay leaf in my instant pot but made the soup on my stove top. I used beef broth but thought it would be even better with chicken. I added a large diced potato to thicken it. The soup was even better the next day.

I make bean soup both ways depending on what I have. We usually have so much ham left over from one of those baked ham that I freeze the bone for soup as well as any number of packets of just the ham chunked up.

I never use a ham bone for my bean & ham soup. It’ll be just fine
