Facebook conducted a week long experiment, deliberately removing all positive or all negative content from their users' news feeds to see how it would affect what they then post. Kind of creepy, don't you think?

Eh, for some reason this really didn't bother me at all when I read it. Facebook already messes with the content of walls so much that this didn't seem like a big deal to me.
I am sorry, however, that it has really upset other people.

Wow- that really shouldn't surprise me, but it does! Makes me wonder what other social experiments they are conducting without our knowledge!

I just can't get all excited about what happens on FB. I know what info I'm putting out there so don't feel particularly threatened by stuff they do.

It doesn't surprise me, but I didn't know they were doing it and didn't even notice. I don't spend much time on FB anyway, just check my newsfeed and groups them I'm off.

This is nothing short of Facebook's pathetic attempt to be controversial, thereby getting press that would possibly make it relevant again. It won't work. I for one, didn't even notice, lol.

And thus another reason I am glad I never joined FB. I know I am one of the few remaining but I am content not being a part of that community.

I have groups set up. I usually don't look at my feed. If I only looked at my feed...I'd hate FB.

I have a problem with this because informed consent is one of the cornerstones of ethical research. Agreeing to the FB TOU is NOT the same as agreeing to participate in a research project.

I have a problem with this because informed consent is one of the cornerstones of ethical research. Agreeing to the FB TOU is NOT the same as agreeing to participate in a research project. This is how I feel, and especially with regard to human subjects. All of my training, and research efforts have stressed the importance of this. It is not acceptable. Additionally as we know from past human experiments this is a very slippery slope and researchers should be held to the strictest standards of ethics to protect people from harm. Emotional harm included.
