MSNBC... ”My budget will ask Democrats and Republicans to make the needed commitment to eliminate the HIV epidemic in the United States within 10 year," President Trump announces during #SOTU . "Together, we will defeat AIDS in America." 1. He’s desperate. 2. I don’t believe he means it. I would invite anyone who is curious to google and find out how Mike Pence believes that you deal with an HIV outbreak.... spoiler alert it happened in our state on his watch and he prayed about it for a period of time before doing a damn thing. Anyone want to bet who he will charge with this project? I am a praying woman and I still believe in the power of actual science when it comes to these issue. I have no faith in any part of that statement so long as that asshole is any position of power.

“Immigrants are coming to kill us, the economy is great, don’t investigate me, our allies are treating us badly …”
I think, without listening, this is probably pretty accurate.

”Pres. Trump: "As a candidate for president, I loudly pledged a new approach. Great nations do not fight endless wars...as we work with our allies to destroy the remnants of ISIS, it is time to give our brave warriors in Syria a warm welcome home."
Didn’t he tweet that he already destroyed ISIS? Yes, yes he did. So what’s this “destroy the remnants” crap?

Rep Andy Levin...
”It feels sickening to sit here — as a two-time cancer survivor — and listen to a man who has repeatedly proposed cutting the National Institutes of Health budget use the story of a child cancer survivor for applause. What has he done to speed cancer research? Nothing!”
This part bothered me. He praised the fact this 10 year girl with brain cancer raised funds for her treatment”.
The part that bothered me was that she had to. Did he say anything about how the country needs to have a health care system where 10 year old girls don’t have to raise money for their treatment? My guess is no.
I see he finally shut up.

Is anyone else NOT going to watch the SOTU? I have absolutely zero desire to. Trotting out my favorite TV quote of all time: I'd rather watch a cat eating its own shit. (Reno 911) *snort*

Ah there is more to the story...
David Cay Johnston...
”The cancer research spending @realdonaldtrump just touted sounds big at $500M, but it’s spread over ten years so it amounts to less than 1% more.”
That’s chump change.

”"We are alarmed by the new calls to adopt socialism in our country," Pres. Trump says.
"Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country."
Note to Democrats, go to far to the left and the Republicans will beat us over the head with this during the 2020 elections, and regardless of who we nominate to run against trump, they will be at a disadvantage. A big one. IMO.

The transcript is out...
”Many of us campaigned on the same core promises: to defend American jobs and demand fair trade for American workers; to rebuild and revitalize our Nation's infrastructure; to reduce the price of health care and prescription drugs; to create an immigration system that is safe, lawful, modern and secure; and to pursue a foreign policy that puts America's interests first.
There is a new opportunity in American politics, if only we have the courage to seize it. Victory is not winning for our party. Victory is winning for our country.”
The Republicans had a majority for 2 years, which of these items did you accomplish?

“In the 20th century, America saved freedom, transformed science, and redefined the middle class standard of living for the entire world to see. Now, we must step boldly and bravely into the next chapter of this great American adventure, and we must create a new standard of living for the 21st century. An amazing quality of life for all of our citizens is within our reach.” OMG!

“But we must reject the politics of revenge, resistance, and retribution - and embrace the boundless potential of cooperation, compromise, and the common good.”
Now this is funny coming from the “revenge” king.

There is no candidate we can run that will prevent the Republicans from using this narrative with their base, which is generally unable or unwilling to discern social democracy from socialist totalitarianism. Trying to prevent the RNC from running against us as "socialists" is futile IMO.

“Together, we can break decades of political stalemate. We can bridge old divisions, heal old wounds, build new coalitions, forge new solutions, and unlock the extraordinary promise of America's future. The decision is ours to make.”
We must choose between greatness or gridlock, results or resistance, vision or vengeance, incredible progress or pointless destruction.
Tonight, I ask you to choose greatness.“
Problem is trump’s vision of greatness and the majority of American’s vision of greatness are two very different things.

But we had better find a way to change the narrative because it will the ACA fiasco all over again when the Democrats let the Republicans control the narrative. IMO I can still see some old lady, who was on Medicare, saying “keep the government out of my health care.” And let’s don’ forget those death panels.

Joining Melania in the gallery this evening is a very brave 10 year old girl, Grace Eline. Every birthday since she was 4, Grace asked her friends to donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She did not know that one day she might be a patient herself. Last year, Grace was diagnosed with brain cancer. Immediately, she began radiation treatment. At the same time, she rallied her community and raised more than $40,000 dollars for the fight against cancer. When Grace completed treatment last fall, her doctors and nurses cheered with tears in their eyes as she hung up a poster that read: "Last day of Keemo." Grace -- you are an inspiration to us all."

“We eliminated the very unpopular Obamacare individual mandate penalty - and to give critically ill patients access to life-saving cures, we passed right to try.”
But what has he done to fix health care so a 10 year girl with cancer doesn’t have to raise funds for her treatment?
Oh yes, add $500M over 10 years for cancer research.
Been corrected. The girl raised funds for cancer research. But, no snark intended, $500M really is chump change.

“The savage gang, MS-13, now operates in 20 different American States, and they almost all come through our southern border. Just yesterday, an MS-13 gang member was taken into custody for a fatal shooting on a subway platform in New York City. We are removing these gang members by the thousands, but until we secure our border they're going to keep streaming back in.”
I looked up the numbers on a site that tracks the numbers of gang members a year ago. There are roughly 700,000 gang members in this country, of which 10,000 are MS-13 members. Spread across 20 states that is about 600 per state. It seems to me , as a country, we should focus on the 690,000 number instead of the 10,000 number.
“Year after year, countless Americans are murdered by criminal illegal aliens.”
And year after year how many innocent Americans are killed by angry white guys with AK-15’s?
