On Friday night we went to see Jim Gaffigan at an Indian casino which has a big amphitheater that seats about 5000. Jim Gaffigan was hilarious, but these things just baffled me: 1. The tickets were EXPENSIVE. I only went because we had a $200 gift certificate for Ticketmaster and this was a place we could go and enjoy as the whole family. The four of us, me, dh, ds22 & dd15. We sat in the bleachers which were the cheap seats and they were $50.00 each. The seats on the floor (which were basically folding chairs with some padding tied together making a row) were $70.00. 2. While Jim was VERY funny, he was only out for an hour. The show was supposed to start at 8pm, the warm up comedian came out about 8:15pm and did about 15 minutes, then Jim came out and was done by 9:30pm. 3. Hordes of people were still walking in looking for places to sit in the general seating area from about 8:15 - 8:45. The show was supposed to start at 8pm. If you have general seating and paid $50.00 for a ticket, WHY OH WHY do you show up 1/2 hour AFTER the show is supposed to begin??? 4. Just because the show is outside, WE CAN STILL HEAR YOU TALKING. People where going back and forth in the middle of the show to the bar or restrooms having loud conversations like they were not walking in the middle of a show. Maybe because it's outside and they can see the sky, they think we can't hear them as they walk but we can, every word. 5. And yes, when you have a bar there are going to be drunks, but I felt sorry for my dd who had a lady sitting in front of her that was laughing so hard, that every time she laughed she threw her entire back into her lap. Her drunk boyfriend with the long dreadlocks (white guy..oohh k) had to flip his head around everytime she had a laughing fit to look longingly at his drunk love and whipped my son's knees over and over with his dreads. My daughter finally had to stick her water bottle out so when she thrust herself back the water bottle stuck her in the back. She stopped after that. Needless to say, we did have a fun time as a family, but I don't think I would do it again, it's just not worth the money. AND WHY ARE PEOPLE SO RUDE? I would rather go to a smaller comedy club and have a few drink minimum and a much lower cover charge and the show would be several hours. Thanks for listening to my comedy show observations.

So many of your comments about the show in an outdoor amphitheater applied to my recent attendance at a Zac Brown concert. The cost, which I know we had the choice to buy or not. The drunks - the girl in front of us made the show miserable and the highlight of the night is when she totally fell flat on her back in front of us, shattering her phone in the process. It was pretty darned funny how it happened and I can say that only because she wasn't seriously hurt. The phone suffered the most. Thankfully she left after that and I swear the aisle clapped. People showed up late, left early and the talking! Aaarrgh! I didn't pay all that money to listen to them discuss their sex life. People kept entering the aisle throughout the entire show. On top of all that, this was my son's first ever concert and I don't think he is wager to attend another. People have become so inconsiderate!
On a sidenote, my two sons saw Jim Gaffigan a few months ago (at an indoor venue) and had front row seats. I don't know how I managed that one but they were beyond thrilled. They said Jim was funny but the show was very short, as you mentioned. I suppose if people ar willing to pay crazy high prices, who can fault them for taking it.
I am happy that your family made the best of it and enjoyed some family time. I think that is what is important though I know it is sometimes difficult to look past the nuisances when you are in the thick of it.

It's true, family time is most important and I'm still glad we went. Interesting that your sons commented that his show was short too. I guess people keep showing up, so why do more then he has to? I know I've seen Kathy Griffin several times, and while her tickets are the same price, she's on for a few hours.

I show up to concerts and shows about 30-45 min late sometimes because : 1. I don't want to see the opening act. 2. I have to work/commute and getting there any earlier may be impossible.
What's wrong with white guys with dreads??
The talking and lack of manners is annoying. As are drunk people.

To me that is a complete waste of money, especially if the show only ends up being an hour & 1/2. I guess if I know I couldn't make it on time, it's not a ticket I would purchase, but that's just me. It just seems like a lot of hassle and money to show up 45 minutes late. Anyone is welcome to wear dreads of course, but not everyone should. It's just not a good look on everyone. But if it makes him happy, you're right, who am I to judge? It's not cool when he was slapping his dreads against my son's legs all night.

I don't get the walking around during the show either. At any kind of concert. I pay a lot for tickets - I'm not going to leave my seat and miss something I paid that much for!

I know I've seen Kathy Griffin several times, and while her tickets are the same price, she's on for a few hours. You know the time variances apply to concerts also, as I have learned. Jason Aldean performed here this month and the entire show with Florida Georgia Line lasted 2 1/2 from start to finish. We saw Blake Shelton on Saturday night and his show was a solid 4 hours and with Neal McCoy emceeing/entertaining in between acts. The ticket price was significantly higher, nearly double for Aldean and those were for the highest (only available) seats. Shelton seats were for the floor. I guess if an artist can get away with less and pull in crowds that some do. Can you guess who will earn my money for tickets in the future haha. Still.. all were good shows and my daughter was thrilled to attend both.

My friend went to Joan Jet concert a few months ago. She purposely came late because as we all know what concert ever starts on time. Well Joan Jet starts on time and my friend only heard four of her songs. Jen

But I'm not paying to see an opening act, I'm paying to see the person I'm there to see. I rarely enjoy opening acts -- usually only sit through them if it is general admission. To me "on time" means I see the band that I'm there to see, not when the doors open. I'm probably sensitive to the dreadlock judgement since I had them for several years. To my knowledge, though, I never injured anyone with them.

I've noticed that at casino concerts people are often late and I assume it is because they are gambling.
