Wow, gar's thread asking what we wanted to be when we grew up, then mine asking if your Mom had/ has a career made me think of another topic... DOLLS! (ETA...because I had wanted to be a Mommy since I got my first baby doll). Obviously, I know not everyone liked or played with them. One of my dear sisters-in-law preferred Lincoln Logs and little cars. I loved playing with those with my brothers, also. But I LOVED my dollies and stuffed animals much more! I loved baby dolls up until around 6th grade. Rocking, feeding, singing lullabies, etc. When my friends and I weren't pretending to be teachers, we'd play "house" with our cute baby dolls, and/or we played Barbies. We LOVED all the clothes, shoes, houses, cars, and Ken---with his questionable genitalia. At age 13, my Mom decided I was too old to play Barbies anymore, and MADE me give them away..... I was very sad, BUT, I believed (incorrectly!) with her that I needed to have more grown-up interests. I wonder how long my friends and I WOULD HAVE continued playing? The only thing that made it less painful was seeing how happy my cute neighbor girls were to get allllll my dolls, clothes, car, dreamhouse, etc.

I never really started, dolls were a massive waste of time to me.

About your age I think, but very reluctantly.

I think I was 12. Your story made me sad scrappintoee. You weren't ready to stop and that was OK to keep playing.

I never really started, dolls were a massive waste of time to me. I felt the same. Hated them. I am not sure why, but they still creep me out. Dolls that look like real babies are the worst. I never got it. They are plastic people. I really don't get how adult women like them either, but to each their own. Now both of my dogs will curl up with me in a baby like position, so maybe I just needed furry dolls. ETA: OP, I do find it sweet how much you loved them. I guess I don't have to get it to appreciate that someone else found joy in them.

I know I played with baby dolls until I was 12. My mom was pregnant with my baby brother and I was so excited about the new baby that I had a renewed interest in dolls. I don't remember how old I was when I gave up Barbies. I guess my mom gave my Barbie stuff away at some point. I wish I had kept my favorite doll and outfit. Our neighbor sewed my Barbies beautiful clothes - even a wedding gown made out of remnants of her own wedding gown. I wish I still had that.

I think I stopped around 12 -- but these days I make dolls, so I guess I'm still playing with them.

I never played with dolls, but DD did. She gave up her Barbie type dolls about 11, and her AG dolls when she discovered boy bands at about 13.

I never played much with Barbies - I had some, and I'd play when my friends were over, but I didn't love them. Baby dolls... I liked them okay, but I started babysitting when I was very young, and real babies interested me much more. I was done with dolls by about 9 years old.

Barbie was introduced in 1959 I believe. I got one soon after when I was 12. I loved that doll. I loved styling her long blond hair. I *played* with her until I was almost 14. Our dog found her and chewed her head off her body. I was heartbroken but didn't play with her that often any longer. When I think about girls that age now having sex I have trouble wrapping my head around it. Different times for sure.

Never really played with dolls. Not sure why, they just didn't appeal to me.

I’m one of those that never played with dolls, didn’t like dolls, still don’t like them and am still creeped out by dolls to this day.

The summer when I was 11 was a mixture. I remember playing with my Barbies and playing with my Tonka Trucks in my great uncle's gravel pile. At the same time, I remember wearing my first pair of dress shoes with heels.

I think I was about 12 when I stopped playing with Barbie dolls. Part of it was peer pressure, none of my friends played with dolls anymore. I still like dolls, I just don’t “play” with them anymore.

I never played with dolls, but I loved my stuffed animals, and played with them until I was 11-12. DD will be 13 in May and still adores her plushies. She has never cared much about dolls either. DS was actually the only one who played with them, but only until he was 5 or 6.

I was never into the baby doll type of dolls--I've always found them creepy. I inherited a Barbie from my mother and had other Barbies I got as presents, but again, wasn't all that into playing with them, but I did love the clothes. I was a totally horse-crazy girl so I was always outside running wild in nature, pretending I was a horse.

Around 12 but maybe a little later. Collected them into my early twenties till they all got stolen.

I wasn’t a dolly girl either. I had a cheap version of a Barbie and only had that because I loved making clothes for it. I stopped when I was about 11 and was making my own clothes then.

For my 13th birthday my mom decided it was time to update my bedroom. She didn’t want me to keep my Barbie Dream House because she said I was too old. I begged to keep it and she reluctantly agreed. A year later I discovered boys. One time I had a couple boys over and they went in my room and arranged my Barbies in compromising positions. I didn’t even know they did it. When my mom discovered the Barbie porn she removed the Dream House and that was the end of that era. My mom and I laugh about that today.

Probably around 11, but I didn't play with dolls much. I preferred my collection of plastic horses!

I have collected dolls my whole life, but playing with them I probably stopped when I got interested in boys - I guess 11 or 12.

I played with Barbies until about age 12. I was never into dolls though my grandma tried very hard to get me to like them.
My dd just turned 16 yesterday and still collects American Girl Dolls. She received Molly for her birthday. And we went to AGPLA a week ago.

I wasn't a big fan of dolls although I had a Barbie I played with some. I much preferred stuffed animals of all sorts, but have never given them up, as I still collect them. DD was done with Barbie when she got out of Kindergarten. She had some Madame Alexander baby dolls she played with more. In 3rd Grade she got Felicity (AG doll) and played with her through the 5th grade.

I’m guessing I was too old since Barbie and Ken had a very active sex life.

I still love dolls (fashion dolls), mainly vintage ones but some of the designer Barbies still catch my eye. I finally stopped collecting dolls but I confess that the Meghan Markle wedding doll by Ashton Drake makes my heart beat...I covet that doll...I do have the Catherine. I asked for it for my birthday but instead I got a bunch of stuff for my new dollhouse. I love tiny/miniature things. I don't really "play" with dolls, but I like to display them and look at them. As for baby dolls, I don't remember when i stopped. Maybe age 5-6? I had Barbies a bit longer than that, probably up to age 10-11. I started collecting them again as an adult though I don't buy Barbies anymore for the most part.
