I love making valentines! I send Christmas cards to acquaintances, but valentines are for loved ones. When I was a kid my mom had home-made cardboard hearts to trace around and then we would use those paper lace doilies under and on top. I've done it that way a lot. But I like to mix it up a little so I'll use my Cricut to cut cute animals from Create-a Critter, or heart stamps in a more traditional card. This year I kept putting it off because I just could not think how I wanted them to be. I kicked around the idea of a collage effect but I've done something similar recently. So on errands today we stopped by a name brand craft store - no inspiration there. They barely had heart stickers! Then we went to Barnes and Noble for books and that was it! They have amazing pop up cards there. Time to get out the stamps and dies and tiny scissors and have some pop up fun.
How about you? Are you making valentines? Do tell!

I finished mine this week and sent them off to Send A Smile 4 Kids. Cleaned up all my supplies and packed them away until later this year when I vow to get a much earlier start on 2020 Valentines.

I'm making lots of punny one to sell in my etsy shop Next year I'm going to start mid-year so I have my shop stocked right after Christmas and then I'll actually have time to make some to donate and send as well. I forget how much time and energy the holidays take. In some ways I'm not so surprised that the craft store didn't have much - they seem to clearance holidays at least a month before the holiday actually starts, which sucks for those of us who don't start celebrating Valentines Day until we've gotten over Christmas, New Year's and the great beginning of year declutter (or general chaos and illness). The last time I was in one they were getting all their spring and Easter stuff out, despite Easter being really late this year. I hope you'll share what you make here!

When I was a kid my mom had home-made cardboard hearts to trace around and then we would use those paper lace doilies under and on top. I have fond memories of doing this, too. I have such a specific memory of sitting at the kitchen table working so hard on a valentine for my mom, full of fancy doilies, construction paper, and cut up greeting cards. My mom is 81 now, and a few years ago she was decluttering and gave me back all the stuff I made for her over the years, including the valentine. I understand her desire to get rid of stuff, but it still feels a little sad to get this stuff back. I don't usually do Valentine's cards, but this year I may make a couple for family members just because I miss playing with heart stamps and dies.
