New month, new thread, new goals! Not sure how January got past me so quickly, but here we are in February. Welcome to anyone who wants to join in our journey to controlling our stuff! One step, one shelf, one drawer, one closet at a time should be our motto! If you were with us in January, how much progress did you make towards those goals? Would love to hear how everyone is doing, especially since the initial hype of Marie Kondo's Tidying Up seems to have worn off just a bit. Two of my Jan. goals will migrate to Feb. because they just didn't happen (guest room and garage). February Goals: * Photos: Sort, toss duplicates/bad/unknown photos. Start to put them into pocket pages by year. Scan negatives. * Sewing Room: Complete 3 projects, including 1 quilt top, embroidered dish towels for DD, kennel quilts for pet shelters. * eBay Pile: Make 50 new listings from pile of stuff. Donate anything not worth the time. * Cedar Chest: Add the stuff sitting on top. (going to try baby steps this month! ) Short month, so a shorter list of goals! Besides, that photo project is huge! I have KonMaried all of them and there is a massive pile on my dining room table.

goals: I have two shoe boxes full of photo film I need to get scanned. I'd like to get at least 1/2 of one box scanned in February. I have some thank you cards to get out this month. Continue purging in the bedroom.

Now that it's above zero, I have several boxes to drop off at Goodwill. I'll be happy to get them out of my laundry room.

I recently did a pantry and freezer mini purge and reorganizing. The bigger news is I'm sticking with my no shopping and bringing unnecessary crap back into my house goal.

I got my whole upstairs purged, deep cleaned and organized...February is downstairs. I have trash people coming to pick up our the random crap we’re tossing out..I also have clothing donation people coming this week to pick up bags of clothing. The downstairs won’t take as long because I’ve aleady purged things so it’s more organizing and deep cleaning.

I'm going to focus on cleaning up my email accounts. I had 16,000 emails in my "Promotions" folder a few hours ago. I have it down to under 10,000 now. I'm going to get all my email under control this month.
I'm also going to work on getting photos under control -- both physical and digital pics.

I have been working on one of the boxes of films today and yesterday. I think I might get one of the shoe boxes finished this month!! I'm so excited. I have previously done two boxes of them in the past two months, so hopefully, I'll have time to get these final two boxes done also.

I've got a bunch of stuff to list on Ebay. Clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry, and some collectible vintage perfume bottles. Easily 50 items.
My goal is to earn enough from it to have one new linen outfit made by my favorite indie designer/clothier for spring and summer.

I pulled all misc. crap from our "extra" room.. stuff of mine, scrapbooking stuff, my dh's stuff.. and put it in the living room.. I have organized a bunch, thrown away a bunch. and am determined that nothing goes back in room without being organized. so it is slow.. but happening.

January went by too quickly, which makes me nervous for February since it's so much shorter! I did OK on my goals, but I need to kick it into high gear for this month.
1) winter gear sorted & boxes to barn 2) holiday boxes to barn 3) file taxes 4) clear off kitchen table 5) drain FSA account 6) organize seeds & order seeds 7) defrost & organize chest freezer 8) clear phone and install apps 9) go through 2018 receipts, organize important ones & shred all unnecessary ones
I am going to make myself not add more goals until these are ALL crossed off the list...

Slowly making progress. I finished off the mending pile in my sewing room and everything is back where it needs to be. DH also decided that he wanted to get rid of the gardening tools. He's too busy to do the yard himself and our yard crew can do it so much quicker/better anyway. Rather than watch them deteriorate we gave them to our long time handyman. This afternoon he picked up a lawnmower + leaf bagger, a hedge trimmer, weed eater, edger (all w/gas engines), a spreader (for fertilizer/seed), and an old fan. Freed up more space in the garage!
I'll also be giving a 12'x10' cotton dhurrie rug to my housekeeper this week. It was in DD's room when she was little and I have no earthly idea why I've held on to it all these years. Pretty rug but no space for it so out it goes.

Oooo I missed the January thread!!
Today I finally got my husband to agree to getting rid of our giant nasty (imo) ottoman. It’s massive. We dragged it to the curb and I’m praying someone will want it and come take it for free to save us some trouble lol.
My big goals for the month for now are,
-Organize and properly back up all digital pictures (delete unwanted ones) -Get baby stuff all organized -More eBay and marketplace listings. It’s not my stuff but I had agreed to helping family sell it and it’s sitting here in my closet taking up space.
Might update later lol

Anyone have any advice for helping a 16 yo son who has the cleaning/purging urge and how to keep it alive?
My son's room is so full of crap and I think he finally got sick of it. Two days ago he cleaned his floor voluntarily and said he was tired of all the crap is his room. Last night he was cleaning off all 4 layers of crap off his bulletin board. This morning it looked beautiful and organized and 75% of it was in the trash or a "to keep" pile. I want to keep him inspired!!

I organized the pantry, the cabinet above the stove, and the cabinet that holds pots and pans. I bought 2 organizers like the picture below; one for each cabinet. I had to lay them horizontally for them to fit. I also put a wire corner organizer in the pantry. The top shelf was perfect for holding my box of nine Penzey's spices. I'd post a photo but there's a whole lot of processed food in there. And an added bonus, I found a coupon for a free game of bowling.

I bought something similar, actually 2 of them, to store my glass cake pans on their side. I am so happy! I no longer have get down on the floor to lift them up and unstack them to reach the one I want. link

I finally took the time to clean out and organize the laundry room cabinets. It’s just crazy how fast clutter can take over. I’ve also been working on organizing my iPhone photos - now that is a project!

Labeled all my spices (DH hoards them, but I tossed out ones that were over 10 YEARS old lol)
I got rid of all my trash/donation bags.
I decided I’m going to paint two rooms downstairs so I’m now testing paint swatches before I make a decision.
Oh and I really wanted to get rid of all the carpet in our home and replace with vinyl flooring but it’s just not in the cards right now so I shampooed all the carpet and it near killed my back.
*anyone have tips for painting over 30yr old wallpaper? It was in here when we moved..the print of light colored so not dark. I’m not taking it down because it’s too much work and we plan to drywall over it next year sometime. I’m doing flat gray, but I keep getting mixed reviews about using primer first then paint or just the 2 in one. Thanks

I'm busy on a writing project this month, so I don't have a lot of time to declutter, but I did clean out one kitchen drawer this weekend. It was stuffed with mail and papers I was going to deal with "later." Some of the papers had been sitting there for months! I filed all the papers that really need to be kept and threw out the rest. There were a lot of personal notes and cards that I had read and tossed in the drawer. I saved a few, but threw most of them away. There were several magazines and catalogs I was going to sit down and read someday, but someday never came. I tossed them in the recycling bin. I keep opening that drawer now and looking at how clean and empty it is and it makes me so happy.

Don’t think I have gotten rid of anything officially. No, I am wrong. 2 boxes of Hershey’s cocoa. One was dated 2015 & the other 2016.
I did use up some ingredients for cookies and brownies for a fundraiser, which is how I found the outdated cocoa.
Plus, DH noticed the extra storage space in the bathroom cabinet. Instead of tossing or donating the extras, I have been using from the stash. Finally seeing a difference in that area.

In January I was able to sell some things on eBay, but I also had flakers who didn't pay, and I had to deal with that. Really pissed me off and turned me off listing more.
I'm just going to donate the rest of what I have and be done with it.
This morning I just kind of got pissed off at so much stuff coming into the house. My kids brought in so much Valentine's day clutter from their class parties. I don't mind candy, as it is consumable. Pencils are okay too. But little $ store toys are just garbage.
Yesterday I tossed my slippers because they were just too worn out. Made me sad to see them.
I think my goal this month is to get rid of more school papers, toss a sweater I couldn't fix, and go through my toiletries.
Does anyone ever feel angry and overwhelmed by how much stuff is in their house?

I think my goal this month is to get rid of more school papers, toss a sweater I couldn't fix, and go through my toiletries. Does anyone ever feel angry and overwhelmed by how much stuff is in their house? Yes! It is especially frustrating dealing with all of the crap that comes in from elementary school. It's just the last straw for me. I have become ruthless and I bribe my youngest to get rid of things before we put them somewhere to deal with them later. I try to explain that we just can't make a house for everything, but I really wish the school would get on board with this idea too. I only want their very best artwork and writing and maybe a sample of something from the first month of school and the last month of school to see their improvement over the year. We have February break this week and I'm really hoping to hit my goals hard! I've been struggling to keep up with normal stuff, so it will be nice to have a chance to really work at it and not have to do dropoff/pickup and extracurriculars. Fingers crossed that I can actually make something happen!

My goals in January were to keep picking away at purging books, with the goal of turning at least half of the library into yarn/craft storage. DH and I took 7 boxes of books total to donate in January and just dropped off another four of books and games today. We also took 3 bags of clothes last month and another 3 today. To look at our library and closets, most wouldn’t notice that anyth8ngnis gone, BUT I have actually moved yarn onto shelves in the library and can now find clothes more easily in my closet and drawers.
Tomorrow, the purge continues.

I cleaned out a cupboard in my kitchen today, and got rid of stuff I've been putting back in the cupboard for quite some time. One garbage bag full of stuff. I also found some packages of tea that I think I can use up.

today i went through just the lower closets in my craft room. two trash bags and two big boxes later, i'm through with most of that area. i still have 6 or 7 fat binders full of acrylic stamps to get rid off. those will have to wait until i start to purge the actual scrapbook stuff. that other stuff was just misc. things.
funny though, it doesn't seem like i have any more room in there even after taking out a bunch of stuff. i must really be good at Jenga-ing things. i guess that's a bad thing too.
