Good for you! January of 2020 file for a homestead exemption on your new house at the local tax collector's office. You & your husband will get a $50,000 reduction in taxable value of the house. Best advice one of my neighbors gave me when I moved here! Thank you for that. Our realtor explained the homesteading thing and how it affects taxes, but didn't mention this part. Thank you everyone for all the kind wishes.

Congratulations on the successful trip and upcoming home purchase. How did the pets do?
Also, do you mind me asking if the RV was one of those that you can rent for vacations? I’ve always wanted to take a trip like that and wondered if those rentals were worth it.

Welcome to Tampa Bay! You should have another beautiful day today. From your description, I'm guessing you bought in Riverview or maybe Apollo Beach? As a previous poster suggested, do apply for your homestead exemption next year. Unfortunately, you can't get it for this year since you did not take residency before January first. You are supposed to get a Florida driver's license within 30 days of becoming a resident. Be sure and make an appointment since the DMV can be very, very busy. There are several of them. Linking to page and whichever one you choose, click on the "appointment suggested" link. www.flhsmv.gov/locations/hillsborough/

Congratulations on the successful trip and upcoming home purchase. How did the pets do? Also, do you mind me asking if the RV was one of those that you can rent for vacations? I’ve always wanted to take a trip like that and wondered if those rentals were worth it. The dogs have adapted amazingly well. We medicated them with meclizine on all travel days, and none of them even got sick (this had been a significant problem previously). Ben, my Pom, travelled in his crate in the RV and was good as gold. Penguin, our old, mostly deaf Papillion mostly travelled in the back seat of the car lying on a blanket, and Joey the Min Pin travelled on my daughter's lap in the car. I actually think the trip has made him slightly less neurotic, lol. They very quickly accepted the RV as home. Yes, this was a rental. We used a company called Road Bear, primarily because they only rent RV's that are 1-2 years old. It's not cheap. It cost us about $6000 for the 2 months in a one way rental. Plus gas. Plus paying for the RV sites. DH figures it will be about $10,000 by the time we're done. But that is for about 3500 miles and 60 nights.
