I was always very tiny/skinny until I had babies. I got up to a size 20 and tried every diet, to no avail. So, I stayed at that size for about 10 years.......... My heaviest was in 2000 and I reached my goal in early 2001 (from a size 20 to a 2). Still maintaining after all these years!

Congrats! Today my doctor said my blood pressure was creeping up ... and losing little weight would really help. Any tips? Thank you! It DID take long, but it was easy! You have an excellent reason for wanting to lose weight: your health. There are a million diets out there and most of them work; many of them are sound. Losing the weight is pretty easy on any of them, but maintaining is the hard part. FOR ME, the answer was one-on-one counseling (Jenny Craig) and buying their food to start, so I didn't have to think about menus, points, etc. Their food was delicious and I'd still buy it now if I had a closer clinic. They teach you about nutrition and about balancing your day's worth of healthy foods. When you reach halfway to your goal, they slowly pull you off of their food and you create a few days of your own menus and foods. Being watched closely is key and having a great counselor to talk about the emotional aspect was great. I was scared to totally go off of their food, but I did it....... and then I wound up working for them for a few years. I did have a few personal clients to mentor after I quit. You can balance a healthy plan for yourself and eventually know what's best for you, with the mindset that you think about food in terms of what it can do for your body. When I reached my goal, I honestly felt like I had a monkey off of my back. No more worrying about food and weight. I focused on getting healthier.
Exercise is key also. I'd say that if you're not doing any exercise now, to focus on cleaning your diet and then add exercising in a month. I worked out at home and did resistance/stretching + my treadmill 5 days/week. It gave me the toned body I wanted.
Good luck! It's a great time to begin anew if you're concerned about your health!!

You are so pretty. You should be so proud of yourself - which I hope you are! My daugher at 17 is having weight issues. I hope one day she cares and invests in eating better and moving. I am a great role model, but it turns her off I believe. I eat healthy and go to the gym 6 days a week. Unfortunately her birthmother is heavy and I am afraid that is where part of it comes from.

I am a great role model, but it turns her off I believe. I eat healthy and go to the gym 6 days a week. Unfortunately her birthmother is heavy and I am afraid that is where part of it comes from. Thank you! The "pretty" thing always embarrasses me because I do NOT see myself that way. The weightloss accomplishment is something I'm very proud of. In looking back, it never felt like "me". I felt like a skinny person trapped in a sad body. When I lost the weight, I never wanted to get heavy again, and I do check myself often enough. My stats are very good and I'm always looking to get healthier. I'm 58 and in pretty good shape.
As far as your DD17, I get it! My DD was always thin, but couldn't care about having a clean diet or working out, even though she saw her mom working her best. My DS was the one to cheer me on and it still resonates with him. He watches what he eats and he works out. DD thinks that we're shallow to think like that, but I remind her that it's about HEALTH and not LOOKS.
I think that our daughters look at us and want to do the opposite. DD30 is just now realizing that her food choices and not working out or being active are directly impacting her health, so she's on the verge of wanting to clean it up. I'm right there with her, ready to encourage her, but trying not to push. It's easy for them to say, "Well, it's easy for YOU"........... We have to be careful........ No matter if your DD got her weight issues from her birth mother or from you, she'll need to get healthier one day & I hope she'll come to you to ask for help or just realize that it's in her best interests to do it. Good luck!!

Your dedication is impressive! Thank you so much! I could ALWAYS learn so much more, but my goal is to be the healthiest I could be. I've had a year of surgeries and recoveries, so I haven't been able to work out. I just try to do the best I can and keep an eye on my bloodwork.

Way to go Bergdorfblonde! You are so beautiful and you reached an amazing goal! But best of all you've been able to keep to your goal weight for a great number of years. Do you know how rare that is? From one statistic 98% of people are unable to do that. You and I are such twins today. As you mentioned earlier today we are both 58 and I too was very small and skinny until I had my son when I was 29. I got up to a size 18W and tried a ton of diets and I'd be successful but then I'd stop the diet and all of the weight would come back and then some. Jenny Craig was one of the one's I tried. I had clothes in my closet from sizes 6-18 that fit as I yo-yo'd through the years. It's only in the last 5 years that I've been successful when I tried the whole foods, plant based diet. I weigh myself every day to keep an eye on my weight. I'm a size 4 in pants (not a 2 like you ), and a size 6-8 in tops because of my big boobs and my goal weight is/was 125 lbs but I'm only 5 foot 3 inches tall. I have gained some in the last 2 months thanks to a couple of strains of medical marijuana that I've been trying out for my migraines that have a "munchies" side effect that is so strong. Today the scale said 139 and my mouth hit the floor! It's the most I've weighed since I lost it all on the whole foods, plant based diet. Dang munchies side effect. Not all of the strains have this side effect but most do-Girl Scout Cookies does, Crockett's Haze does, Salmon River does (all different strains). With WFPB (whole foods plant based) I learned to eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full, but with the munchies it hits in your brain and it's impossible to stop. Thankfully the strain Blue Dream doesn't have it (the munchies side effect) so that's what I picked up today at my local MM pharmacy. Knowing myself I should be able (hopefully) to get these 14 pounds off within 3 months. That puts us in May-just in time for summer. I also have hypothyroid and am in the middle of menopause so that always slows my weight loss down. Anyway, didn't mean to go on and on. Seems I usually do. I'm so sorry. Bergdorfblonde, you really are beautiful. And I love your blonde curls.

Bergdorfblonde, you really are beautiful. And I love your blonde curls. You & I have so much in common, and you're always a great source of support and knowledge!! I appreciate hearing from you!
Okay, we're the same age. I'm 5', so we're close. My goal weight was 114. I have huge boobs (34dd---I was 32dd when I first reached my goal, but your body changes). I was actually a size 0 shortly after I reached my goal weight. It was odd to me....... but then a size 2 was more attainable for years. If I'm wearing a dress or really good clothes, a size 4 is normal now, but I'm Italian and I can get up to a size 6 or even 8 if I have a fun weekend with good food! It all settles back down and I lose it again.
About my maintenance: I DON'T weigh myself every day or I'd go insane!!! I could be up or down a few pounds at any given time, but I check it every few days. I go by my clothes and I measure myself too. I have a # that I try to stick by. It was 120 (my outer limit). If I reach that then I know I have to REALLY clean up my act and reel it in!
I also have hypothyroid and I'm in menopause (hysterectomy 7 years ago--not sure when my cycles would have ended-ugh!), but they haven't affected my weight too much. In fact, I have less of an appetite and I cut out alcohol (except for special occasions). I can't get "drunk" anymore or I feel too sick. I guess I'm getting old!!! LOL
About food: I used to be able to eat more than any man. It's the Italian gene. Now I love to cook and bake for people and I can't eat too much of anything. I really don't overindulge on anything, and as bad as it is, if I'm craving something sweet, I'll have it in place of a meal. Not healthy but I get it out of my system and I don't eat too much of it. I like to take bites............
My mom also kept her weight off (thru Weight Watchers) for as long as I did. I know we're in the minority. I have about 20 clients who are still maintaining too. It's the ones who "get it".
Thank you for complimenting my looks. Gee, everyone here is giving me a big head, if only I believed it!! I don't see what you all see, at all. In fact, the thinner I got, the more harsh I became about how I looked. It's a flaw.......... But, thank you!! Good talking to you & you never hog a thread!!
P.S.: Don't feel guilty or bad if you're up a bit of weight. The cookies shouldn't have power over you. If you can't measure them out, ditch them. NOTHING is worth you getting back to an unhealthy weight. I through out anything that's hanging around here! You'll get back to a good weight because you want to! Also, I'm sure I could stretch my stomach over a weekend and begin having HUGE meals, but it's uncomfortable and then I feel crappy. Switch your brain to think about eating small amounts.... and it'll become second nature. Good luck losing that little weight and getting back to your fighting weight. You'll get there!

My bra size is 36DD so we are close. I don't feel bad about the weight gain because I know the cause for it and since I picked up the Blue Dream today which works for my migraines and doesn't have the munchies side effect the weight gain will now hopefully stop. I was trying out new strains because it's always good to have a 2nd strain that works in case the pharmacy doesn't have Blue Dream in stock when I need it. Luckily today at the pharmacy they had a handy flyer they were giving out that showed which terpenes (parts of the cannabis plant) there are 11 in all do what-one of them Limonene has the effect of appetite control, is also an anti-inflammatory, which should be good for migraines. Most strains have 2 or 3 different terpenes in them. So that will make searching for a new strain to try a lot easier if I know to look for that one in the future.
You're Italian, I'm German. Well, half German. German mother, American father. Was born in Germany. I'm a perfectionist so I like weighing myself every day-it let's me know right away in what direction I'm going. With the WFPB diet I learned to only eat when I'm hungry and to stop when I'm full. I'm not hungry that much either like I used to be. The whole foods carbs keep my stomach full for a long time. I don't drink much at all either. The only time I drink is when I go to visit my parent's house (they live 15 minutes drive from me) and drink wine with them. I don't measure food, count food, points or calories. Never did-that doesn't work for me. Eating the "right" food works best for me. I've changed my palate so I don't crave processed foods unless I get that munchies side effect. Then all bets are out the window. So the best bet is to not get that munchies side effect at all. Period. Then there is no craving.
So I'm not feeling bad-just frustrated at myself. I know I can get back down. I'm just frustrated that I got back here at all. Ya know?

I had gastric bypass 4 months ago. My goal is to lose 110 lbs and I have lost 66 so far. I did not have time to try to lose my weight as I had too many comorbidities and needed 5 surgeries and procedures last year all made worse by my weight. I truly believed I would be dead if I didn't get the surgery.
There is no easy way to do it. Every method of getting weight off is hard and miserable much of the time. But my entire life is different already. And I've learned a whole lot about my body that I probably could have gone to my grave happily without knowing.

There is no easy way to do it. Every method of getting weight off is hard and miserable much of the time. This is very true!! I lost about 90-95 lbs a few years ago and it really is a challenge and life-altering endeavour. Not only because habits and pleasures and patterns need to change but because one must also battle biochemistry and hormones that try to convince our bodies we want and need to be fatter! I keep reminding myself that I’m eating for a better life, not for a better day.

Losing the weight is pretty easy on any of them, but maintaining is the hard part. along with that is how many folks say "everyone I know who tried xyz diet put it all back on". No matter what your way of eating is everyone will put their weight back on if they go back to their old eating habits.

Congratulations; you must feel great. I am struggling right now. I am at my heaviest weight (and that includes when I was pregnant!!) I know what I need to do I just can't stick with it; I don't know why. It is now even about how I look anymore; I need to feel better. I'm also short with big boobs so at least I know it can be done. LOL.

You look amazing! Your long-term success is very inspiring! It's always funny when something so relatable turns up with the peas when you need it. I was thinking this morning I have to do something about my weight. I've never been a dieter, but managed to keep to a reasonable weight. Unfortunately as I age the weight is creeping up and staying put.

Congratulations on all your hard work and success!! Thank you SO much! Honestly, after the 1st year of maintaining, it came very naturally--2nd nature! you look great! and congrats on all the hard work of maintaining (and losing, but I agree- maintaining is the really hard part) for that long. The fact that it comes naturally after a period of time is a good thing to hear... I have the opposite issue of you- you said you felt like a thin person in a sad body; even when I was 50 lbs down (which I have gained back currently... ) I always felt like an overweight person who was only 'pretending' to be thinner. I could never flip the switch inside my head to switch from 'overweight' to 'thin.' And I think that's my MAIN issue. I always felt like the 'thin' thing was just pretending and was only temporary, so I never felt like I could actually maintain a healthier weight. I truly believe most of the weight-loss battle, at least for some people, is in their head; I know it is for me. Again, congrats, especially on never letting it come back.
