How about starting from scratch on the notebooks -- they create their own -- ask them to bring paper -- scrap, newsprint, pretty paper, wrapping paper, left over envelopes, etc -- and corrugated cardboard. Teach them a simple binding techinque for signatures, then some binding technique for the signatures -- create the covers. It isn't difficult to make a book.
The jars -- if you want them to look as you've described -- are going to be a bit more difficult, I think. You can find "storage" plastic ware in various sizes at pretty low quality in little multiple stacks .. fairly inexpensive. But they are cute little jars! Oriental Trading Company -- as someone said above. Paper Whispers ?
OH -- Nashville Wraps -- they might have little jars of some sort
another edit ... DANG -- I follow links just to see things you all have seen -- and I'm going to start asking for all sort of weird things just so I can see what you all find! I saw a bunch of crap from the links that I want ... no use, no reason .. just want! LOL!

I want the books to be at least half a sheet of standard paper, like the size of a Readers Digest magazine, I don’t really care how many pages are in it, 20 or so.
We are going to be covering them with fur and making them look like the Monster Book of Monsters from Harry Potter.
I thought about just making them, but the thought of making 50 of them is pretty daunting with all the other stuff I will have to do for that week. The kids range in age from 4 to 11, and I don’t think I will have enough time to have the kids make the books and decorate them. If we were to do that I would have to cancel another activity, but that is something to consider.

If you want to put in the time to DIY it, price out what a glue binding would cost at any copy center. You could do it yourself, but it could get to be a pain for 50. But you could cut the paper and covers-that’s easy enough to do while you watch a movie. Or have that be part of the project—where the kids make their books.
I like the idea of using the ice cream/lidded take away containers for the pixie jars. No glass and I’d be willing to bet that you could get them donated from a local restaurant. If refused, ask for 10 from 5 different restaurants. I’ve done that in the past!
ETA—I type too slow and just saw your post. Really, DD uses composition books for her lab books. They are full of drawings, charts, and photos. She just uses a glue stick to add those in. Bonus is that they have sturdy covers, so that will hold up to adding the fur. If you are ordering online, I’d take the time to inquire and make sure the covers are thicker. (I’m thinking of the dollar store, which can have flimsy covers).

If you have access to a long reach stapler, I don’t think it would be all that time consuming. Ten sheets of drawing paper (11 if you want end papers to glue into the covers), folded in half, staple down the middle, glue into a cover. Sounds like you have several months to pull it together, stapling the pages would maybe take a 2-3 hours at most. The kids could glue the pages inside the covers which could be made out of whatever you want to use since it will be covered with the fur anyway. Sounds like a cool project!

That works with a few reams of index or cardstock 8.5 x 11 ..... Long reach stapler, stapled down the middle just like the AliExpress ones.... would be needed as stated above. OR a heavy duty sewing machine? Skellinton

You can take copy paper and card stock and sew books together. It would be very easy as each "book" would only need three or four stitches down the center. It wowld not take but an evening to get them done. Or the kids could even make them themselves. You just fold the paper in half and add a cardstock cover, poke three holes and tghread crochet thread with large needle through the holes. It makes surprisingly very sturdy books.

I would be willing to make you some blank stitched books if that's what will work for you! I work for a printing company and have access to the equipment for making these easily. You can message me if you'd like.

You all have talked me into doing these myself, I can have the older kids assemble their books and I will just make enough for the youngers. That also gives me a bit more budget to find jars for the Cornish Pixies!
Thanks all!
