I have a gala to go to next weekend. It is for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a major fundraiser for the year. I'm on the gala committee, and I'm also donating dessert for the 300 attendees. (raspberry swirl cake, with lemon buttercream & raspberry sauce for drizzle for those who need to know lol)
I scored at Laura at the mall today - fantastic dress for $59, and got some shoes as well. The dress is black on top with a pretty pink/orange floral bottom. I'll try and post a photo in the next comment down. My computer died and so I'm limited with internet access and only have the photos on my phone.
The dress is fairly slimming, but I may wear my Spanx under it.
But it is February, and Ontario. And cold. So I need to wear pantyhose I think.
I've never worn hose with Spanx - do you wear them under? Over?
Maybe I'll skip them - it's mostly a dinner and sitting, but there will definitely be mingling going on with the silent auction and live auction as well. Maybe I don't need them?
Ack! I never get to dress up, so I never know!
ETA - ok managed to email myself photos to get them here (no idea why they are sideways - they are upright on my computer!):

If you wear them both together, you can kiss going to the bathroom goodbye unless you want to strip down for 20 minutes in the ladies room.
Spanx does make hosiery though. It's really great quality. I wouldn't say it squeezes in as much as the shapewear, but it definitely smooths things out.

Where is your "trouble" spot? Spanx makes some tanks and middle section things... you could maybe pair that with hose and not be in trouble.
ETA: Your dessert sounds fantastic. I definitely needed to know!

I definitely needed to know! I feel like my waist/rolls is my trouble spot. But this dress is fairly slimming when I look at the photos - so I may skip them and look for hose with control!

Cute dress!!
Your desert sounds yummy!!
I would forgo the spanx. The dress isn't form fitting so I don't think you need to worry about bumps and lumps!! Besides that you will be much more comfortable and you will be able to pee!!

Do you have Spanx on in the photos? If not, then I don't think you really need them. That dress looks great on you and I don't notice any bulging anywhere! Have a great time!

I don't - this was in the change room at the store. So thanks! I always feel I look great from head on, and then when I turn to the side I look "thick" if that makes sense. A local shop in my little town does carry spanx hosiery so I'll maybe pop down there for some!

And because I know the Peas love photos, here are the shoes I found to go with:

I think the dress looks great without torturing yourself! Just wear hose if you want the little extra layer, and it’ll all be fine. (You could pull them way high if there’s extra like some have, and have them act as a smoothing layer if you want)

Super cute dress! I agree - go with the control hose and enjoy! I love the top of the dress. I wish I could find more with that style.

Super cute dress! I agree - go with the control hose and enjoy! I love the top of the dress. I wish I could find more with that style. I walked into Laura and saw this GORGEOUS long blue on white patterned dress - skirt was full and had a thin crinoline under it - LOVE - but way too formal for what I needed. I hit the 50% off rack and flipped through a few and saw this one, kept going and then kept coming back to it. I loved the top as well - it has some stretch to it, so it is a bit forgiving. It's a 12, so I was sure it wouldn't fit...but just had to try it on. Done! Best shopping trip ever! I totally hate shopping - I'm a "get in get out get what's on the list" shopper. So dress & shoes, under $130, under 30 minutes!!

Skip the Spanx. The dress looks great on you.

Seeing your photos, there is absolutely no reason for you to be uncomfortable in Spanx all night. It fits you perfectly!

If you do want to wear spanx, I've worn them over panty hose in the past. I wear the thigh, underwear type occasionally.

You have to wear the hose on top if you have any interest in peeing.

Just get the control hose. They have some that are so sheer that no one will even know you are wearing them but they make your legs look great.

Pretty drsss, pretty shoes, I hope you have a good time.
Back in the day when we wore girdles instead of spanx, the order was panties (so you don’t get a yeast infection), then panty hose, then girdle. I don’t see why the order would be different now.

I definitely needed to know! I never thought anything of spanx until I saw an ad on a you tube video. I would love something for my stomach area! I was always so thin in the waist, and once I turned 45, it was like overnight I developed a muffin top! So is there something for that problem area? I am also thinking about the summer when I have on a t-shirt and shorts.

Cute dress! If you’re not wearing Spanx in the photos I don’t think you need it at all!!

The dress is very pretty and in my opinion, you absolutely don't need the spanx.
