I love Stampin Up ink pads, but I just can’t get on board with their current options. Something about SU Real Red throws me off - it is too dark, not bright and “Christmasy” enough...something. I am thinking of venturing into other brands to find the perfect red, which is way harder than it should be, lol. I was looking at Gina K and possibly CTMH. Any recommendations or thoughts? I realize I am super picky (ha!!), but I find myself reaching for red a lot, so I need to find a version that makes me happy. Thanks!!

I like My Favorite Things ink. I have all the reds they sell (current). I'm not at home right now, so can't tell you which is brighter. I am willing to stamp something in each and mail it to you if you would like.

I am in the market for this color also. The last time I had a true Christmas or red white and blue flag red was when I used to use those cats’s eye pigment inks. These are ones I have that I don’t consider true red: Memento love letter and lady bug, Hero Arts neon red, strawberry and red royal Papertrey Ink pure poppy Distress candied apple, barn door and festive berries.

I am glad that I’m not the only one having trouble with red. Thanks for your list of reds not to try. I hope someone has a good suggestion for us

I use what I have but once in awhile when I’m doing Christmas or nautical stuff I’d like a true red. All mine either have some pinkish or brick tones. I buy online so there is no way to see a sample ink chart. I see true red everywhere. I think it’s out there in an ink but I haven’t bought it yet. I’ll be glad to hear which company makes one.

Lawn Fawn Lobster is a bright Christmas red. It doesn't look like it so much online, but I have it, and it is.
Some people say Lawn Fawn ink stamps blotchy, but I have not had that problem. Maybe it is the quality of the paper.

I have Papertrey Pure Poppy and a couple of sets of Altenew cubes for layering. Altenew Crimson is quite a bright red. Ruby red is also nice and a bit darker.

I was actually looking at the set with the crimson, so thank you for confirming that it is indeed a bright red. I may have to look at the Ruby Red, too. I have Stampin Up’s retired Ruby Red and reach for it often. On another note, I am so used to ordering SU from a demo, that I don’t really know the best place to order some of these other brands. Any recommendations? Most places have the flat rate shipping costs, which is killer for a couple of inks.

I would never have thought about the Lawn Fawn lobster. I’ll try it. I don’t have much trouble with Lawn Inks and I have a stamp positioner so I can make corrections. I’ll try the Altenew next time I order also.
I don’t know who is going to ship reasonably on small orders. There are a few that go by weight. Simon Says and Papertrey are flat rates. Maybe scrapbook.com? Seems like Altenew also but I couldn’t find it in their shipping policy. You can also get a Simon Says $5 off coupon code and the amount you have to spend is pretty low, like 5. The current code expiring 3/1 is CBFF99. I just noticed all Altenew dies are 20% off right now. Not to enable or anything because you would have to spend 100 to get free shipping.

Catherine Pooler has a very pretty red ink. It's called Rockin Red. I have a mini one, and it was a perfect Christmas colour.

I ordered some of her inks on a whim (trying to find that perfect red), because I heard that her pads were similar to the squishy Stampin Up ones that I am used to. Rockin' Red is great - brighter and more cheery than the muddy, SU reds. Samba also surprised me as being more red than coral depending on the colors around it - like a bright fire engine red with maybe a hint of orange (it isn't a blue red). I am so happy with the colors that I may replace all my SU ink pads, lol. Thank you everyone for all your help!!
