Hi so my ear got infected from burning it when my head was on fire. I understand that is quite common. At this point it looks like a grilled hotdog. If I take pain meds they block this pain and irritation which bugs me the most. I can’t touch it easily but I put Bactroban on 3x day and a steroid cream. My stylist showed me how to insert my extensions to work with this but I have a huge short piece of hair in the back. It is still a dumbassed accident but it’s getting better grrrrradddduaaaallly like it doesn’t hurt like it did when I had it seen. How much longer will it take to get better? I was told there is poor blood flow to the ear. Any guesses? I need a timeline. Another week? It should be better already?

I think you'll have to be patient whilst it heals. Hopefully it'll be a lot better in a week.

Yes I saw an Er dr and my GP. The steroid cream is upstairs. I didn’t think it was going to be as bad as it is that’s why I am asking. Do burns take a long time to heal?

Your doctor didn’t give you an estimate? No and I was in pain from the infection and didn’t ask when I should have. That was dumb.

I burned my arm and my Dr prescribed Silvadene. It healed so quickly. Not sure if you can use it with an infection though.

I guess it’ll be a gradual process over the next week or two.

You need silvadene cream and you need to have it looked at to determine if it's actually infected vs post-burn swelling. There is no one set timeline and since we cannot inspect it, you need to see someone who can if you think it's infected.

It’s been about a week, yes? I would think it should be feeling better soon. Burns really inflame the nerves and are painful.
When DD was about two, she burned her hand when she knocked over the iron and the water spilled onto her. Thank God it was her hand and not her face, and that it was the water and not the actual iron! I know I kept it bandaged for at least 2 weeks. I remember one of the creams we used was Silvadine or something like that. The goal was to keep the skin over her knuckles from scarring so that she didn’t lose mobility in the hand. It did heal well, but it was hard to keep covered.

With our friend’s kid who burned his ear it took a really long time to heal. As in weeks, maybe more than a month? The long recovery time is due to not a lot of blood flow in that area.

Yes, they can take a long time to heal, depending on the severity. When I burned my hand (3rd degree) it took a full 6 months to just regrow the skin. And another 2 years to fully heal. Another few years after that for the skin to get back to a normal state-normal being matching the other skin on my hand, and no longer fluctuate in color with changes in temperature.

That is very helpful thank you. They told me I wouldn’t need plastic surgery to do as skin graft which was great. I just wanted to know how long to expect and I am only 2 weeks in. I have a ways to go now. It is sore to the touch. I think it hurts about as much as you would expect a burn to hurt. It didn’t hurt at all initially but it’s cranky now. It can at 4:23 pm start really hurting and then not again until 11 am. Irritation is worse because it kinda hurts but it’s just annoying and if I touch it, it hurts.

There is no one set timeline and since we cannot inspect it, you need to see someone who can if you think it's infected. I see my GP for follow up. The emergency room dr. put me on antibiotic but it could have been like you said post burn swelling. Maybe he was just covering his bases? Silvadene is by Rx only here. I will ask my GP for some.

Silvadene cream only really helps with an open burn. If it's starting to heal over, there are many new silver based dressings that can help these days. Have your Dr refer you to a wound care nurse.

Burns do take a long time to heal. My mother burned most of her abdomen this past summer while canning beets. . Did daily dressing changes for over two months. Yours is a smaller scale but it will get there.

It looks pretty bad. No way would I let the wind get to it. I would cover it when out and about and keep it uncovered at home.
