Your first sentence is probably the most interesting thing I’ve ever read here. So much so that I’m loathe to read on because, surely, I’ll only be disappointed.

I will ask for a referral when I see her this week. It hurts today a lot. I was out in the wind and it really stung. It doesn’t look that bad does it? It looks pretty bad. No way would I let the wind get to it. I would cover it when out and about and keep it uncovered at home. Would you call that a wound? We have a wound clinic here that I can ask to be referred to. It’s fine right now but it gets irritated for being attached to my head aka no good reason. I mean it’s fine until it decides it’s angry and isn’t fine any longer.

You poor thing! How did you manage that and not set your hair on fire at the same time? Ear burns are bad because the skin there is so thing so it burns deep pretty quickly.
Sending you healing thoughts!

You will be disappointed because there was fire on my head. It managed to burn my ear, back of my head and hair. Today is the last day of oral antibiotics. Yay! I was pretty scared when it was on fire. I don’t recommend it as an activity at all. There is no upside. We have bad water pressure in the house and I could have gone to roll in the snow. I did find my way to the kitchen ok because I had the fire on my head to light up the room. Anyway, it’s done. It will get better. If you were wondering the glass table is just fine (where the wax was.)

Yes, that is a wound. See all the blackened dark area? that's alllll gonna fall off.I would keep it covered when outside. It's really hard to dress an ear, but a wound care clinic may have some suggestions

Your first sentence is probably the most interesting thing I’ve ever read here. So much so that I’m loathe to read on because, surely, I’ll only be disappointed. I haven't read the rest of the thread, but I'm guessing you'll be disappointed in this thread for its interesting-ness. IIRC, Delta Dawn 's hair caught fire due to an unfortunate incident relating to bending over a candle during a power outage due to the cold/snowy snap recently. The incident was discussed in much more detail in the 'power outage' thread, I think... with a whole lot of judging going on about the dangerousness of using candles for any reason at all, from what I remember (misplaced judging and outrage, in my opinion, because we use candles for ambiance all the time-- but that's just me). I don't know the answer but I am wishing you a speedy recovery. me, too!! I hope you don't sleep on your side! I would think an area like that would be tough to keep fro getting 'irritated' from wearing hats, glasses, etc.

I missed that thread. I have a candle phobia for this reason. Never been burned by one, never had a fire started by one either. So I don’t burn them. I buy them and never use them.
That looks so painful. A dressing would be really difficult to keep on your ear.

When I was about five I fell face first into a campfire and severely burned my face and palms of my hands. I don't remember all the medical stuff that was applied, although I will never forget the smell. It took at least a month before it healed enough to not constantly ache. It'll suck until new skin grows back.

That is going to take more than another week to heal. It looks very painful. So the pain medication helps, but you don’t like taking it? I would advise you to do so to improve your quality of life until it no longer is painful. That’s what pain medication is for. Burns really hurt! I’ve never been burned on my ear, but that looks so painful. As to when it will heal, I can’t begin to guess, but it won’t be by next week, for sure. Be patient as these things can’t be rushed.

It’s painful when the meds wear off. I am just using tylenol for pain now. It can go from 0-angry in a second’s time. I learned a valuable lesson and I will never use a candle again. We now have a house full of lanterns and wall flashlights.

That’s going to take a long time to heal. Follow up with your doctor and do whatever they advise you to do to aid in the healing process. I hope you feel better soon, it looks very painful.

As a chronic pain sufferer, I can tell you the trick with pain management is to stay on top of it, meaning don’t wait until you are in agony to take the meds. Take them before you feel maximum pain again. Usually that is every 4 hours, or whatever your doctor recommended and remain on them while your burns are looking like that. Once you think most of the healing has happened, start weaning off the pain control to see if you can stop it or at least cut back substantially. There is no point in being in extreme pain.

See if you can get some silvadene. I had an accident in the lab and had second and third degree burns on abdomen and upper thigh. Had to change my dressings 2 times a day.. showers and then add silvadene cream with light bandages. This went on for 4-6 weeks. It really is painful.

Holy cow! That looks terrible. I second silvadene cream. That stuff is amazing. I worked during college cutting steel bars with an oxygen acetelyne torch. I got some gas trapped inside the glove. When I lit the torch I had blow back. A terrible burn on my hand. Silvadene worked wonders.

You need at the very least a rx for silvadine Cream. Slather it on every few hours when you change your bandages. Seriously, do not apply a thin coat when you put it on. Thick coat. Then gauze bandage.
You need to be seen by a burn clinic. The charred skin is not a good sign. And the fact that this is a low circulation area is not going to help this situation.

I ran my head under water which put out the flames. Still so dumbassed-before I lit the candles I actually took everything off the table to protect them from the flame.

Oh my goodness! That has to hurt. Check with doctor, but I say antibiotic salve constantly to keep it moist. Once it starts getting better and no fear of infection, masage olive oil all over it 4 times a day for 6 weeks.

Ouch! Yet another good reason why I have flashlights, battery lanterns and battery candles. I have a folding battery Ottlite with a clip that I keep on my nightstand in case the electricity goes out in the middle of the night.
Very very occasionally the electricity will go out in the middle of the night. I'm glad to have a light handy if it does. I have several of the more recent small led lights that attach with a hook, magnet and sometimes a clip scattered through out the house also.

That does look painful. I caught my ear instead of my hair in my straighteners and that hurt like a bitch so I can't imagine how painful that must be.

Your first sentence is probably the most interesting thing I’ve ever read here. So much so that I’m loathe to read on because, surely, I’ll only be disappointed. It was the second sentence that got me. Hi so my ear got infected from burning it when my head was on fire. I understand that is quite common. ... This sounds like the opposite of common to me. (But I get what you were saying.) I can't imagine your emotions, Elannah! The pain from the burn is obvious, but the emotional reaction must be just as painful. I hope you'll be able to talk to someone about it because that's a lot to process.
