Where does a student apply for college loans? The kind you do not pay back until after you graduate. Thank you.

Federal and private loans are usually not paid til after they graduate. Usually banks have school loans programs. Both my girls have loans thru Wells Fargo, though I must say they are a PITA to go thru, so I wouldn't highly recommend, but they are very popular.

FAFSA is your federal loan, and helps the school determine how much support they will give.

After that has been filed the student will go to their university's financial aid office to see what financial aid will be offered. That aid will include the amount of loans available to the student.

FAFSA will provide your information to the colleges you list in your application. The college will tell you in their offer letter what scholarships, grants and loans you qualify for. FAFSA will tell you what your estimated financial contribution might be, but that’s just an estimate and not set in stone as tuition at each school can be different. Some schools also require that you complete the CSS profile application in addition to FAFSA so make sure you submit all applications that each college requires.

So have you done the FAFSA? and gotten the financial aide pkg from the college? whatever is left over from the financial aide pkg will be up to the student to cover. Be it private loans, or parents, or whatever. After that it's up to your student and family to seek out the private loans. My girls took out their own loans, and we co-signed.
