A day with John Candy in it is automatically a better day. I still love SCTV!

John Candy was such a loss to the entertainment world. He was so talented and lovable. Gone way too soon.

How has it been a quarter of a century?
His acting was top notch and I miss it greatly.

Aww......DH and I have always been soo sad that he died way too young!! I've only read good things about him, and I've shared here before that a dear friend of mine was working in a restaurant in Los Angeles many years ago, met him, and was very touched by how kind John Candy was.
This is a sweet interview with his children (awww, his son looks so much like him!) www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/john-candy-remembered-his-children-939218DH and our nieces, nephews, and siblings started watching "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" Thanksgiving since 1989, plus MANY other times! DH, one of my brothers and I quote it ALL. THE. TIME. Thank you for the laughs, Mr. Candy!

I was devastated when he passed away. I remember watching a canadian tv channel and news breaking in between commercials and sitting in disbelief.
I felt he just had so much stuff we didn't get a chance to experience with him. He was an actor you never hear anyone speak badly about either.
Loved him back from his SCTV days with Eugene Levy, Martin Short and Catherine O'Hara.
He had so many great movies one that isn't mentioned a lot is Only the Lonely he's so great in it but in Planes, Trains and Automobiles he is fantastic.
Our family often say John Candy movie quotes.
My favorites are big big bear chase me
Take this quarter downtown and have rat naw that thing off your face
He says you're going the wrong way. Oh he's drunk how would he know where we're going!

canadianscrappergirl I feel the same way, that he had so much more wonderful acting ahead of him, and we all missed out. I still feel sad about his death. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is one of my favorite movies, and the scene where he's driving and boogying along with Ray Charles with a look of pure bliss on his face--it never fails to cheer me up. Plus, it's the precursor to one of the funniest bits in movie history, when his arms get caught and the car catches fire. I'm laughing just thinking about it! His bit part in Home Alone is also an absolute gem.

Dang, that is crazy.. I actually won tickets to the last movie that he did... some slapstick western.. I can't even remember, I am thinking it didn't do very well.. but it was funny.
I still get a huge kick of him and Patrick Swazye trying out for the Chippendales on SNL.. so sad both are gone.

I have a slightly blurry photo of John Candy with his huge goofy grin and my then 2 year old son at Toronto airport taken 29 years ago. It was a few days after Christmas and John was soooo gracious about posing with ds. What a huge loss that he died so young.
