One of our dogs thinks toilet paper rolls are the absolute BEST THING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. The joy that emanates from him while he gleefully bounds away with one in his mouth is immeasurable. Sometimes we get them back. Sometimes they are devoured.
I did a bit of reading and most people are not worried about them getting eaten. I'm going to check with our vet, of course, but wanted to see what the Peas say.
What say you?

Our French Brittany Spaniel lives for an empty toilet paper roll! He knows the sounds of a roll being emptied and the drawer with extra t.p. being opened. If I don't let him have it then and toss it in the wastebasket, he will sneak in there the first chance the door is open and steal it. That yields the most fun apparently! He's been doing this for several years and doesn't seem to be worse for the wear.

Merlin will do the same thing. If the door is left open he's in there lickity split digging around for prizes. We try to keep the bathroom door closed, mainly because toilet paper rolls aren't the only thing in the bathroom garbage can that he enjoys.

I have to be careful about leaving a crumpled paper towel/napkin on the coffee table. My big dog will stealthily walk by and grab it off the table to eat it. He's very slick about it because he knows he's not supposed to have it. I've never seen him grab the roll - just the paper.

Yep. Remi loves empty paper towel rolls, we only give them to him once in awhile because he make a huge mess shredding them up. I don't think he swallows any, but if he did it's just paper, it'd pass...... I assume

Harper loves them. She doesn’t eat them, just likes to destroy them. Of course she also loves to steal the roll of toilet paper out of the bathroom and rip that into teeny tiny shreds as well. She’s a bit better about this now that she’s two, but as a puppy she was constantly stealing the toilet paper if we forgot to shut the bathroom door.

YES! When Pepper was a puppy she would dump over the garbage can just to get them out. Now the garbages are under the cabinet with child proof locks on them 😊 We try to keep them away from her but sometimes she gets them and is oh so happy when she does.

Surprisingly all three labs we had before never did, but the funny thing with ours like that was dryer sheets. For some reason Duke used to take them in his kennel.. LOL!

Wrigley loves them. She gets super excited.
She also stole and ran off with the empty wrapping paper rolls during Christmas. That was fun to watch her run with them

My sister's dog goes crazy for empty toilet paper rolls. She knows when the roll is almost empty and would sit and shake her little body with excitement, whining and wiggling, waiting for my sister to change the roll. My sister said she was that way from a puppy and that she herself never ofered them to her or tried to get her to play with one. It was just an inborn infatuation with them.
She isn't excited at all by paper towel rolls. Discerning taste, I guess. She doesn't eat them or tear them up on purpose. The second she gets one, she goes darting through the house like she is being chased down. Then she will jump up on the couch with it and roll around, tossing it into the air and catching it over and over. They do rip sometimes when she is rougher than normal on them. When she eventually tires of it, she will sneak off and hide it somewhere to play with later.
She is the strangest dog for hiding things. When I used to go stay at my sister's house for a few days, I would have to carefully check my purse and luggage for any of her hidden surprises before I drove home. I learned this after multiple times of getting home and finding things from toilet paper rolls, her favorite ball, toys, chew sticks, trash, hair ties, etc. stuffed into my things. She would really work to get these things buried down deep between my packed clothing to where I had to totally unpack to check it before going home. I even found one of her toys inside my pillowcase. She had been hiding things in my suitcase or purse over the few days of my visit without anyone noticing. She was a funny little thing.
My dog isn't at all interested in paper towel or toilet paper rolls. Not even if I try to entice him with one.

Toilet paper roll, paper towel roll, wrapping paper roll, Cricut vinyl usually takes it with vinyl still on 🤯, boxes, dish towels, remotes, keys, oh wait I’ve gone too far! Yes, this chocolate monster loves herself some cardboard.

I never leave the rolls out where he can get them ....there is a lot of times he has access to the tp roll in the bathroom and he’s never messed with that either. Soda bottles? That’s his jam..he loves his bottles and caps.

Thank you for all the replies!! I love hearing about all the Pea Doggos and their infatuations. We have three dogs. Cam wouldn't turn his nose up at a TP roll, but doesn't go looking for them. He loves a good PB stuffed Kong. Lu just isn't interested in TP rolls. She's a shih-tzu and goes more for the small critter death shake on our various de-fluffed toys. Merlin doesn't really care for the Kong, his heart belongs to TP rolls. They all have such distinct personalities. Off topic - Merlin is a huge, completely under the covers snuggler. Lu likes to curl up next to you, but she hates being under blankets. Cam doesn't snuggle unless it's cold. He doesn't mind a blanket being on him, but he only wants his nose under, not his whole head.

I had a cat that did. When he was young he thought a roll of toilet paper was the best toy ever—while it was intact. He’d spin it until he’d created his own personal ski slope. I finally had to hide it the cupboard.

He was so crazy about them he would try to steal them from you as you were still drinking from them The way he eyed the bottle in your hand was hilarious!

I smear peanut butter inside and fold the edges to make them more fun, but just a plain ol paper towel roll is endlessly enjoyable here. Mostly because the top dog Lola thinks so, and the other dogs cover whatever she likes 🙄

Yup, we have a 5 yo bichon/shihtzu mix that will run the toilet paper out into the hallway, he's even gotten it as far as the kitchen. I thought he'd outgrow it, but he still occasionally does it. I've even caught him in the act, told him to stop and it's almost like he can't help himself he goes right back to it!
Thankfully with time it's become an infrequent occurrence, but he likes napkins, paper towels, tissues, etc. so we have to be careful with it all.

My Sandy used to love love love to shred a paper towel or napkin to bits. Same with tp. I eventually started putting the roll of tp on the vanity counter because she could not reach it. As she is getting up in age now, she seems to have lost the desire to do it anymore. The other day when I was leaving, I purposely left a slightly used napkin on the coffee table as a treat for her. She didn’t touch it. Broke my heart. 💔

Yes! I give her paper towel rolls occasionally but it makes such a mess. She really goes crazy for wrapping paper tubes. It’s hilar watching this small dog carry that all over the house and trying to fit through doorways.

Our dog loved to play with the wrapping paper tubes. We'd "fence" with her with them, and she'd grab and end and go nuts. She was a dog who loved to tug and thrash. I will admit to throwing away the last bits of paper more than once, just so I'd have a tube to use to play with her. I miss her.
