I am so annoyed. I bought a gift card for my brother almost two years ago. He has not used it. I received an email from my Mum saying they couldn't read the entire number on the card (its faded) and could I contact Amazon and ask them to confirm the number. They had tried and Amazon had told them that it had to be done by the purchaser of the card. I emailed them attaching the reply my Mum had received from them quite clearly requesting the last few digits of the card number. Instead of giving me the number they have cancelled the gift card and refunded the amount to the card used to purchase it in the first place. Problem is that card does not exist anymore and I no longer have any accounts with the issuing bank. I do not want a refund. I didn't ask for a refund. And Amazon had advised that if I contacted them they could provide me with the information we needed. Now they are saying sorry but too bad. Refund can't be reversed and although they know they shouldn't have cancelled the gift card, there is nothing they can do about it now.

If they processed a refund and it went to a non-existing account/card, then the funds will be returned to Amazon. Therefore, they should then be able to refund to an account/card you have on file or credit your Amazon account.

Hopefully that will be the case although they said it was up to me to contact the bank and have them issue a cheque for the money. I would have preferred that they didn't refund in the first place. They weren't asked to. My brother had some items in his cart to purchase which now isn't happening. I'm just really annoyed and frustrated.

They can issue you another gift card. What a crock. Hope you are able to get this resolved. Amazon is at fault here. Not you.

You know what I don't get it takes seconds for them to take your money. It takes days to get the money back.
