Hey! So I’m in the process of getting ready to open an Etsy shop and sell my cards, and I’m trying to find good, inexpensive bulk envelopes. I ordered samples of the least expensive option from clearbags.com, which were listed as being made of 60# text weight paper, but felt waaaay thinner, but the gsm wasn’t listed for comparison. They were $2.50 for 50. The next step up is around $3.50 for 50 and are listed as 70 lb. For comparison, I really like the Recollections envelopes from Michael’s, but for $6.00 retail, and without bulk pricing, I just don’t think it’ll work. What bulk envelopes do you guys use and like?

I buy clearbags A2 basis white envelopes in bulk. They're not cheap, and they're heavier than I would necessarily use for my personal needs but I really want my customers to feel like they got good value for money considering how much they're paying for my cards (about $7 each). Especially since most of my cards are dimensional and layered - I feel like they wouldn't hold up in the thin envelopes and that potentially makes me look bad. These are the thin ones I buy for cards I donate - I was hoping they would be a good option to save money for my business, but I felt like they're just too thin. They're MUCH thinner in comparison to my usuals than the paper weight would suggest - the stack of my normal envelopes was almost twice as thick for the same number. The price per envelope is about 9 cents for the thin ones vs 16 cents for the thick ones according to my materials records - at my price point 16 cents doesn't seem unreasonable to give a really good impression. If I was selling in quantity, like printed notecards, the math might be different.

The bright envelopes you linked are the ones! I was genuinely confused as to how it could say 60#, yet be so thin! Even after looking at paper weight conversion charts, it still didn’t make sense! I’m glad you’ve tried the basis envelopes and liked them. I’ll definitely order a sample.

They're the same weight as the cheapo ones I buy at Staples. (Which actually worked out well because they're a LOT cheaper than the Staples ones, so at least I can save some money in the future!) Good luck with your shop

I get my envelopes from Heinrich Envelope. The ones I get are kind of thin, but I have never had any issues. They can be found HERE. They have lots to choose from. Their shipping seems high, but when I priced the envelopes out, it was still a great deal. Around 0.04/each. If you want I can mail you one to see/feel.

You may want to try www.envelopes.com I first ordered a sample of the ones that I was interested in and then narrowed it down to the one I liked and ordered about 50 of them. Not a bad price for what I needed.
