We had a foster dog that we ended up keeping and he had one but still seemed to live quite a good long life.
My mother has my cat that has one in California because she is bonded to her but she called me today to say that the cat may be on her last paw. 😢 If I recall correctly, the cat is only about 12 so that seems young. What has your experience been with a pet that has a heart murmur?

three of our cats had/have heart murmurs. Toby died young (he was 5) from heart failure. Little Friend is 9 and healthy; Smokey will be 9 in 2 months and is also healthy. I think it depends on what is causing the murmur
I hope your cat is okay

My best friend had a kitty who had a severe heart murmur. Baby Puss lived to about 6 years.
A 12 year old cat is not young. It's considered senior.

Or at least that’s what my boyfriend says and he has six of them. I’ve almost always had cats but not sure how long the longest one lived.

My cat is 16 and has had a heart murmur since we adopted him at 6 months old. My sister has Sphinx cats and since they are so inbred, they almost all have heart issues. She’s had two (father and son) die of heart failure last year. Her current one also has heart issues. My mil’s last cat died at age 24. He was a blind skeleton by that time and should have been pts way earlier.

Average life span of catsIt's never long enough for those of us who love animals. My thoughts are with your mom. It's not easy.

A heart murmur in animals and in humans is just a sound. It can mean absolutely nothing or it can be indicative of a major issue and anything in between.

We had to put one of our sweet cats down about a month ago. He had a heart murmur but it was kidney disease that got to him. He was 17.
