Oceans and national parks forestry is going to be raped, pillaged, plundered under trump. This is what you get when trump puts lobbyists and industry leaders in positions to kill off our environment. From the article— “In his remarks, Balash said he found it “absolutely thrilling” that President Trump’s “knack for keeping the attention of the media and the public focused somewhere else” has allowed Bureau of Ocean Energy Management employees to process the permits without much scrutiny. In an email to The Washington Post on Thursday, Balash said his comments reflected his appreciation that the president’s leadership style made it easier to execute his energy dominance agenda. In pursuit of that agenda over the past two years, the administration has sought to reverse dozens of regulations aimed at making oil platforms safer, reducing carbon dioxide and methane released into the atmosphere, and protecting the habitats of endangered animals and those on the verge of an endangered status.” www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2019/03/16/trump-administration-opens-millions-new-acres-drilling-thats-just-start/

Overly dramatic I’m my opinion. Yes it it irks me to know that marine life will be harmed and possible destroyed. Who knows what damage the drilling will cause to the water.

Just finished reading an article about how the National Parks in New Jersey have fallen into serious disrepair. N.J.’s national parks are crumbling. The repairs will cost hundreds of millions. Here’s what’s being done.Updated 2:46 PM; Today 9:08 AM Michael Sol Warren | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com Dilapidated, yet historic, houses make up Officer's Row at Fort Hancock on Sandy Hook in Highlands, N.J. on March 12, 2019. Sandy Hook is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, one of dozens of American national parks that need millions of dollars for repair work. (Michael Sol Warren | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com)Potholes that could pass as craters riddle Old Mine Road, the Delaware Water Gap’s main thoroughfare in Hardwick. At Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange, Glenmont Mansion — where the famed inventor lived — is just one of many historic buildings that needs to be restored. And on Sandy Hook in Monmouth County, the seawall keeping Raritan Bay from flooding Fort Hancock’s historic, yet dilapidated, Officer’s Row is crumbling. Hundreds of millions of dollars need to be spent on repairs at national parks and historic sites in the Garden State, according to the federal government. Billions are needed to address the problem nationwide and as the backlog of repairs builds, the American public risks losing pieces of the nation’s history and some of its more breathtaking scenes. Federal parks in New Jersey need more than $223 million in repairs; that’s a portion of the $11.9 billion work backlog that the National Park Service faces as of the end of fiscal year 2018. ** www.nj.com/news/2019/03/njs-national-parks-are-crumbling-the-repairs-will-cost-hundreds-of-millions-heres-whats-being-done.htmlAnd Unfortunately our coast is extremely important for our tourist industry, which is still attempting to recover from Hurricane Sandy!

It is very sad what he’s doing to our country and the whole world. What’s even sadder is the many Americans who cheer on this garbage because they hate liberals more than they love the U.S. and the earth.
We ARE doomed.

National parks have been underfunded for years therefore all the repairs needed. Very few parks have entry fees, therefore no income for repairs.
I have voiced my opinion to my elected officials. We all need to let Washington know how we feel about the sad state of NPS properties. We can’t blame the current conditions of our parks on Trump but we can blame any future marine issues caused by new drilling on him.
LucyG what exactly do you mean by “ we are doomed”?

I swear that these people who continue to support him are brainwashed or stupid—that they don’t think any of this is going to affect them. What happens when our ocean, National Parks, forests are sold off to industry. Fields and farms will be next. Pollutants will kill off everything else. All the wildlife will become extinct, no more growing, farming, hunting. Prices on everything will go up. Gaaahhh...... He cannot leave ifficecdoon enough.

I mean that the damage he’s doing to the world, environmentally speaking and in matters of war and peace, and caring for the least among us, and the damage he’s doing to our country, constitutionally, legally, politically, financially, socially, in foreign affairs, national defense, public and private civility, health care, public health, the justice system, environment, education, immigration, infrastructure, public lands and waters, and to the spirit and soul of the majority of Americans who oppose him, and really, even of those who support him, will take decades, maybe generations to heal. I’m sure I left out a few things, too.

This is an example of the kind of trashing of the country that trump is removing what protections were in place to prevent. A current example is shortly after trump took office the Republicans pushed a bill through that trump signed that made it ok for the crap from coal mines to be dumped into the streams around the mines. The mine in the example below has not been used since the 1950’s. Who knows what the long term affects will be with the dumping of the coal crap into the streams around the mines and once identified, how long it will take to clean it up.
From the Press Democrat..
“Mercury contamination in Clear Lake a legacy of mining”
”CLEAR LAKE — Standing on a bluff overlooking Clear Lake, it’s possible for Elem Indian Colony elder Jim Brown III to envision a time more than 10,000 years ago, when humans first arrived and settled the area.
“We are the oldest tribe classified as Pomo ever created,” the tribal historian said, explaining there were large geysers and hot springs close to the lake “where our people did our sweats. Thousands traveled to the place.”
But what was once an area of spiritual significance is today a toxic dump. For more than a century, an abandoned mine named Sulphur Bank has leached tons of mercury into Clear Lake and poisoned not only the food chain and the fish the tribe traditionally relied on, but possibly the people, too.
Fifteen years and several cleanup operations after it was made a high priority by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Sulphur Bank still defies efforts to stop the contamination.
This spring, the EPA expects to complete a feasibility study describing its latest evaluation and possible cleanup method that will be available for public review and comment.
Clear Lake is a poster child for mercury contamination, but is not unique. The state has identified roughly 150 “mercury impaired” reservoirs including Lake Sonoma, Lake Mendocino, Lake Berryessa and Lake Pillsbury. Even Spring Lake in Santa Rosa is on the list for future study, due to concerns about mercury levels in fish.
Contaminated runoff from abandoned mines impacts tens of thousands of acres of public and private land, along with groundwater and hundreds of streams, rivers and lakes, according to the California Department of Conservation.”
Spring Lake is where I get my water from.

can we please not use the term rape for dramatic effect? The word rape has more than one meaning. I’m not so sure it’s being misused in this context. As for me, I would prefer that people didn’t toss around the word Nazi to describe pretty much anyone who says or does something they disagree with. Unfortunately, people continue to say what they want, not what I want.

can we please not use the term rape for dramatic effect? It was a proper term to use in this specific application— “Noun—the act of despoiling a country in warfare Synonyms: rapine Type of: pillage, pillaging, plundering the act of stealing valuable things from a place” “Verb—destroy and strip of its possession “The soldiers raped the beautiful country” Synonyms: despoil, plunder, spoil, violate Type of: destroy, ruin destroy completely; damage irreparably”

It’s completely appropriate and specific terminology for this particular use.

can we please not use the term rape for dramatic effect? I disagree. I suggest that, if you only know of one definition of the word rape, you look up the others in a dictionary. Like many other words in the English language its meaning differs depending on the context of the subject being discussed and was correctly used in this instance.
