I’m going on a girl’s trip to visit the Mercantile and the Lodge. Is there anything we should know before we go? Are the lines still really long to eat at the Mercantile? We will be going on a Thursday\Friday. What did you eat there that was fabulous? Thanks for any tips!

I went back in October. I was by myself, so I just had a coffee & pastry upstairs in the café. If you get there early enough (like at opening) there wasn't a line for the restaurant, but by the time I left there was one.
I didn't get to see the lodge, it wasn't open the day I went.
I wanted to buy everything I saw LOL!!

If you are going during March, there will most likely be wait times since it's spring break. But they've expanded their eating area so it is not as bad as its first year when wait times were 3 hours! Plus there is plenty of shopping to do while you wait, the store area is HUGE! The bakery upstairs also has box sandwich meals and more seating. Are you going on one of the Lodge tour dates? I haven't done that yet, but am supposed to go with a few friends on March 30th. We are planning on doing breakfast at The Mercantile, go to the lodge tour, go to the Tall Grass Prairie and Woolaroc then finish with late lunch/early dinner at P-Town. It's Ree's pizza place right across the street from The Mercantile.
Oooh as for the food, I've only had dinner there so far. But it was a big group of us an we all tasted each others food. I had the drip beef sandwich with rosemary au jus and a side of her mac n cheese, it was so delicious. The portions are quite large of course, so be prepared for a doggy bag or to share. We happened to be there right before close and they gave each a big box of us what was left of their bakery case for free. They said they toss it all other wise. I went home with enough cupcakes, muffins, and cookies to feed us all for a week!
Have fun!!

I think the wait times are still pretty long but I did just recently get an email from the Mercantile that they've started a text program so you can leave your number and then walk around the shop or the town and they will text you when a table is available - much nicer than just standing in line! There's also P-Town pizza to choose from as well.
The Lodge was a fun drive out and back - it doesn't look anything like it does on TV!

Oh my gosh, what a fun trip!!! I went in early November and only about a 10 minute wait on a off time. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and 1000% recommend it.. It was SO good.. We also got some treats from the bakery upstairs.
We walked around the town and stopped in some of the little shops.. there isn't that much to see but there were a few cute stores. The Lodge was not open.. So totally bummed about that.
There is so much to buy in the store.. but I ended up getting the Barbie version of Ree (was not planning that..but what the heck), we got a stuffed Charlie dog, a sweatshirt (which is a little to snug.. I am so sad but hoping it will fit better if I lose a few pounds..lol) a kitchen sponge holder that is shaped like an old fashion bathtub, a book for my 10 year old and a few other little misc items. It was hard to narrow down! I wanted to buy everything in sight.
Was really hoping to catch one of the family members but our waitress gave us some 'inside' scoop on the family. Nothing bad at all. She said they were very nice and popped in all the time but they normally didn't know when... she said the boys were very nice and polite and said something to the fact that their parents wouldn't let them have smart phones yet and they had to carry flip phones. LOL.. The girls of course are in college.. She said the Drummond family was very generous. One time they gave each of the pizza guys each $100 as they worked really hard over the wood fire stove and never get tips.. She said they did a lot for their employees.
I can't wait to go back!! My mom lives close by so it is easy to get to from her place.

Oh another thing, I know I wanted to try to get a couple of meals in, but was impossible.. I was so full from the Chicken Fried Steak, I didn't eat anything else, except the goodies!! haha

I think the wait times are still pretty long b ut I did just recently get an email from the Mercantile that they've started a text program so you can leave your number and then walk around the shop or the town and they will text you when a table is available - much nicer than just standing in line! I went in early September last year, and we waited outside on a super hot, humid day for well over an hour. That was the only thing that annoyed me about the experience there. I didn't understand why they couldn't have some system in place so you could at least shop in the store until they had a table ready for you.
I ate the biggest, most delicious grilled cheese ever. LOL I can't remember what I had with it, though. We had several things from the bakery, and it was all delicious. I'd like to go back someday because I didn't get to spend as much time there as I really wanted to, or go to the lodge, because I was there with my niece and her two little girls (ages 6 and 1).
I love Ree. I've been following her since her beginning blogging days.
