It says it is good until May 14 and is pink but there is a bad smell. Some sites say toss some say it is ok and normal. I am a vegetarian and not use to handling meat often so I am clueless. Anybody have any experience with corned beef in a prepackaged airtight bag. Everything is in the cock pot waiting the beef

If the odor is really off, I'd return it and get another one. I opened a fresh turkey one Thanksgiving day and could tell immediately it was spoiled.

If something had a bad smell, I'd throw it away. There is no way I'd consider eating it.

that is what I figured and I throw out anything I doubt even the slightest but some were saying it is part of the brining, that why I was wondering if anyone used this type of corned beef..sigh... veggies are so less stressful for me

What does this "bad" smell smell like? Is it a rancid smell or vinegar smell? Is there someone else you can have do a sniff test before tossing?

regular meat/chicken smell makes me gag but so did this. The was a rush of smell when I cut open the package and now it smells only up close but I keep gagging which may be psychosomatic at this point!! I am going to toss it. We were not able to do our St. Paddy's day dinner on the 17th but I will just do the veggies and soda bread! Thanks all

Is there another cook or carnivore in the house that can do a double check? Just want to make sure it's actually a bad smell versus one that you might not be accustomed to.

Does it smell like a dirty barnyard? Or pig sty? That’s when you throw it out.
Rotting flesh? Throw it out.

When we’ve had it in the past, I’ve thought the seasoning on it in the package smells really salty, mustardy and gross but the meat itself wasn’t spoiled.

I’m gagging in sympathy. Throw out or return.

I wouldn't just throw it away because corned beef is not cheap, at least not around here. I'd tie it up in a plastic bag until I could take it back to the store and get my money back.
