Do you ever shake your head at the reviews people leave for a product they bought on-line?
My soon to be 17 year old KA 5 qrt mixer hub screw broke the other day (the black plastic head snapped in half). So I went to KA's website to look up the part and saw it had 1 star reviews. So I investigated...
Here is the info that is stated 2 times: "FITS ALL TILT-HEAD STAND MIXERS 4.5 QUART AND LARGER". Ok, cool.
What do the reviews say? I am so upset that I wasted my money on this! It doesn't fit my mini. There were 4 of these reviews.
Um, hello! The mini is 3.5 qrt. NOT 4.5 or bigger.
Like duh. LOL

Exactly that. The size, shape, and accessories are right there but they don’t read them.

I always have to wonder about that ONE person who gives something a one star review when there are like 400 other 4-5 star glowing reviews. Hypothetical question: Is that one person the only one telling the complete truth? Or is that one person just really, really dumb? Usually reading their review tips you off.

The other thing that makes me wonder about online previews is that I think in general, folks who are unhappy with the product, for whatever reason, tend to leave reviews. Not as many who are satisfied will take the time.

..and then there was the time that the 18" robot I had reviewed. The size was mentioned in the description AND in my review. Amazon asked if I could answer the person's inquiry. Yes, you know it--the question was "How tall is this robot?" I really wanted to give a snarky reply, but I did not.
People just don't read the information.

Or the reviews that only discuss the shipping, how fast it got there, it was left on the porch, etc. What on earth does that tell me about the product.
If most reviews are positive, I pretty much disregard the negatives. I’ll read them to see what they have to say, but with a grain of salt. I figure there is always those people that are never happy with anything.

I agree, but still look at the specifics in those negatives.
It's weird when people disagree on those specifics "It was see-through!" vs "It was not see-through, as others have claimed."

I think the reviews that discuss the shipping happen because Amazon sends out multiple review questionnaires for the same item, one is usually *only* about the shipping and the satisfaction with the seller specifically. Then I will get a secondary request to review the actual item, sometimes days or even weeks later and I always think, “Didn’t I already review this thing?!?”

Not answering is better then those that answer “I don’t know, I haven’t opened/used it yet”. Then don’t freaking answer, good grief.

This is a bit off-topic, but my favorites are recipe reviews, where people didn't like the recipe, but then list all the ways they didn't follow the recipe!

I’ve noticed that too and it happens a LOT. People will substitute or skip a whole bunch of ingredients because they either don’t like them or didn’t have them on hand, and then trash the recipe saying it sucked. Well, YEAH, maybe because you didn’t *follow* it? Ugh. My rule of thumb is to always make a new recipe as written the first time through and THEN determine if any changes are warranted.

Direct quote from an Amazon shopper I read this week: “I would have given this 5 stars but I ordered the wrong size so I’m only giving it 4”
