For real? 😳
Are we really ok saying that as long as molestation didn't kill someone, that it's ok? That they wanted to be there?
I love her music. But this is a line in the sand I cannot cross. HOW does she think this ok?
(FWIW, I agree the parents have a responsibility for what happened to the boys as well. But that doesn't make what Michael did ok either).

I know!! I saw it on TMZ first and thought it was a joke or something so I looked into it. She hasn't issued a follow up comment that I can find. WTF.

She's doing herself and how people view differences in sexuality a HUGE disservice. I think of the homophobics who scream things like "what's next? Getting married to animals?" who will hear her say something like that and think that liberals want to normalize pedophilia. It sounds like she's doing that with "his sexual needs were his sexual needs" and references to his DNA.
She and her buddy, Donna Karan, need editors before they talk to the press.

Offensive...right up there with "He only molested __ (insert number) of children". As if there have to be a certain number of victims before molesting is a crime.
Those children didn't die, but a part of that child died.
Shame on her....I think if she reviews her statements, there will be some back pedaling.

In that case no one should be sad or hurt or effected by anything because it didn't kill them.

I have never cared for her and this just cements my stand on that. What an abolutely callous, offensive and horrible thing to say. Would she have the same take on this if it were her child that had been molested? FFS!

So as long as the man is famous and the kids are excited to meet him, (and nobody actually died)...then paedophilia is totally OK?
As disgusting as those comments are, she can't be alone in thinking this. There's Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Liberace etc, they all did horrible things too and their peers continued to support them and work with them. As long as they all make money, sacrificing a few kids doesn't seem to be a big deal to them.

This is how I feel about the standing ovation Roman Polanski received at the 2003 Oscars. There is no statute of limitations on pedophilia as far as I'm concerned. I don't care if the victim thinks he should not be prosecuted any longer. It's not up to her to decide that he gets a pass. And I guarantee she was not the only one.

That shows how little she know about how sexual abuse damages the victims. Adults + children + sex = always wrong.

What is it with the culture of celebrity that as long as they're "artists" anything they do is rationalized. This was just truly one of the most disgusting things a celebrity has ever said about sexual assault.

I too think there will be much back-pedaling when she realizes how many people she has just pissed off.
These major celebrities seem to live in such a bubble. Honestly, most of the time I really don’t want to know what they’re thinking/saying/doing. It never makes any sense in the real world.
ETA if unclear ... I am horrified she would say or think such an idiotic thing.

I am not sure she lives in the real world. And is there something about her not accepting her son’s lifestyle.
She needs to fade away.

Dang, that’s quite a statement from her. I always feel conflicted about really liking Michael Jackson’s music. It feels like saying he is my favorite child molestor.

That shows how little she know about how sexual abuse damages the victims. Adults + children + sex = always wrong. Exactly. My mother was sexually abused as a child by a neighbor and she NEVER got over it. She suffered panic attacks and agoraphobia for most of her life. She developed dementia in her 70s, and in a way, I was relieved for her. She didn't have to suffer with the memories anymore. My heart breaks for anyone who has gone through it. Barbra Streisand should be ashamed.

This is so disgusting.
Being married and having kids shows they weren't damaged? UGH This is such an issue for me. I come from a family completely devastated by sexual abuse across a couple of generations, started by my great grandmother's husband. He molested my mom and probably all of her 9 siblings as well as her cousins. Some of those who were abused as kids went on to abuse the kids in my generation, including my brothers...the ramifications of the damage this one man did is far reaching with the effects still being felt today by adults who are married and had children.
I do agree with her on one thing--the parents who let their little boys sleep in his bed. That I do not understand at all. Be all googly eyed starstruck because MJ was interested in your family, but letting little boys sleep in the bed with him? I guess my experiences in my family always had me on high alert when my children were young, but I still don't get how anyone can think that is ok.

WTF?!
Yes, the boys wanted to be there initially. No, they didn't want to be manipulated, molested and discarded.
The fact that they have been able to develop normal relationships and have children is equal parts remarkable and heartbreaking for them. Because it just reinforces how horribly they were manipulated and used.
