That is just crazy. When did resulting death become the benchmark for determining the gravity of something?

What an absolutely idiotic thing to say. That is disgusting. I fully expect some sort of retraction or statement from her as soon as she realizes that backlash she will be getting from this. “His sexual needs were his sexual needs”? WTF. Maybe she has dementia or something.

I wouldn’t think Barbra has dementia because she is doing a show or a tour in the next while (like now).

She's a horrible person. To say it's okay because it didn't kill them is disgusting. If you've watched the documentary and the interview with Oprah, you can just tell that Safechuck is not doing well at all. He looks like he's on the verge of a breakdown throughout. His eyes are so haunted.

She should stick to singing. Her comments are beyond disgusting.
Though I agree with the blame she puts on the parents. The claim that they were being groomed and did not know is fucking bullshit. They knew but enjoyed the perks of pimping. I wonder if they'd have let a quirky construction worker sleep with their kids? No? Wonder what the difference was....(sorry for the tangent)

“His sexual needs were his sexual needs, coming from whatever childhood he has or whatever DNA he has,” Streisand said of Jackson. “I feel bad for the children. I feel bad for him.” Please tell me this has completely been taken out of context?!?!

No amount of backpedaling will allow me to ever contribute a penny to Streisand’s piggy bank again. I only made it through half of the firs episode of Finding Neverland. The pain and graphic descriptions of the abuse were too much. The pain was so palpable. How dare she reduce the victims with a few ignorant words. I hope she pays a career damaging price for letting her mask slip and let us see who she really is at heart.

The fact that they have been able to develop normal relationships and have children is equal parts remarkable and heartbreaking for them. I don't think that they have what we think of as "normal" relationships though. It's clear that both of those women are quite extraordinary in their ability to deal with the issues that have arisen from the abuse. Both described the long bouts of depression, breakdowns, being unable to work etc. Jimmy's wife spoke about doing most of the childcare when he was unable to get out of bed, and Wade's wife talked about worrying if Wade would abuse their child. Both women have stood by their partners during what sounds like some very difficult times, not everyone could/would have done that, so both men have been very lucky to find such understanding women and that has probably has played a big part in allowing them to come forward and tell their stories. Stupid Barbra saying "oh they're married and have kids so they're fine" is so dismissive of the motional damage the men suffered and their wives deal with every day. Many victims of sexual abuse do kill themselves, and just because neither Jimmy nor Wade have done it yet, doesn't rule out that potential in their futures, especially if people like her keep making such ignorant public statements. We had a family on the Aussie version of Googlebox, the father was a psychologist, married with two sons. He opened up about his sexual abuse as a child and he spoke about his wife and how much she did to keep him alive for so long. He committed suicide at age 60 last year. linkIt will never go away for those victims, and the cold hard reality is that it could still kill them.

That's a really half-arsed apology. Saying she should have chosen her words more carefully tells me she still believes what she said is correct, but she should have said it more delicately. A real "sorry, not sorry".

Copied from link: ROLLING STONE INTERVIEWBarbra Streisand has drawn criticism for comments the singer made about the two men who accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse in the documentary Leaving Neverland. Speaking to the Times UK ahead of her London concerts this summer, Streisand said she “absolutely” believed the accounts of Wade Robson and James Safechuck, but added, “ You can say ‘molested’, but those children, as you heard say, they were thrilled to be there. They both married and they both have children, so it didn’t kill them.”Streisand also said that when she met Jackson, the King of Pop “was very sweet, very childlike,” and that she had turned down a duet on Bad‘s “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You.” “His sexual needs were his sexual needs, coming from whatever childhood he has or whatever DNA he has,” Streisand said of Jackson. “I feel bad for the children. I feel bad for him.” Like many others, Streisand blamed the parents of Safechuck and Robson for enabling their sons’ abuse. “I blame, I guess, the parents, who would allow their children to sleep with him,” Streisand said. “Why would Michael need these little children dressed like him and in the shows and the dancing and the hats?” Streisand’s remarks were swiftly met with criticism on social media, with even Leaving Neverland director Dan Reed perplexed by the singer’s comments. “‘It didn’t kill them’ @barbrastreisand did you really say that?!,” Reed tweeted. “‘His sexual needs were his sexual needs’ – is pedophilia tolerated in parts of the entertainment industry?" --------------------------------- Barbra has issued an apology via her Instagram page. Sorry but I'm ignoring her "apology". I don't think she'd say something so stupid unless she was really thinking that. And I have a problem with it "They both married and they both have children, so it didn’t kill them." them. Yeah, well my sister married although she hated children and thankfully never had any. But yeah, it killed her and killed all her relationships with everyone. She started drinking as a child and ruined her health with alcohol and drug abuse trying to forget. I got "only" verbal abuse because I hit him back when he slapped me and this was after shoving his "octopus" arms away for years. I blame my mother because she suspected but never asked an I knew that she'd never believe me. Our father, out GOOD parent died when I was barely 8 so I had no one to turn to.
Her statement that "His sexual needs were his sexual needs" just enrages me. Well, children don't need ANYONE's sexual needs to involve them!!!!!

Her apology was undoubtedly written by her publicist, who I’m sure has been awake and working non-stop for the past 24-hours. Her initial statements were gross and ignorant and shows how she truly thinks imo.

I haven't seen anything but condemnation for Barbara's idiotic rambling. And, up until you did it, no one was gross enough to try to turn child sexual abuse into a partisan issue.

So as long as the man is famous and the kids are excited to meet him, (and nobody actually died)...then paedophilia is totally OK? As disgusting as those comments are, she can't be alone in thinking this. There's Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Liberace etc, they all did horrible things too and their peers continued to support them and work with them. As long as they all make money, sacrificing a few kids doesn't seem to be a big deal to them. Reminds me of the Catholic church blaming the rape of children on everything under the sun but the criminal priests and the bishops who covered up for them: taylormarshall.com/2018/08/does-the-mega-diocese-foster-sexual-scandals-and-bad-priests-yes.html

Oh FFS...now Diana Ross too. ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/slaphead.gif) Seriously these women need to keep their thoughts to themselves. How do they think that their statements are helpful to anyone at this time?

What ever made her think she mattered in this equation? Why does anyone give her opinions any more weight than yours or mine? I've enjoyed her music. I've enjoyed her movies. But I really don't care what she believes about Michael Jackson any more than I cared about who she told me to vote for. Children live with the scars from pedophilia for the rest of their lives. That matters to me far more.

Why does anyone give her opinions any more weight than yours or mine? OK...I'll take the bait and explain what is so blatantly obvious - she's famous, she has 90,000 twitter followers, so that automatically gives her opinion more attention than yours or mine. I can give my opinion here but at best it might be read by a couple of hundred people, and most aren't "fans" so they aren't going to take action based on what I say. Her opinion (and Streisand) reaches more people, and many of their fans are so start struck/obsessed by famous people and so DO give their opinion more weight than others, especially the two victims (and others, but these are the two in the media right now) then go and take up the cause on their behalf. Has it escaped your attention that this is why they use celebrities in advertising? Jennifer Aniston saying she uses this skin care product will send sales soaring - because people DO give more credit to celebrity opinions. When was the last time someone offered you millions of dollars to be in a world wide advertising campaign of a product? Never...that's when. They both said on Oprah, and even Oprah said it herself "you gonna get it, I'm gonna get it, we're all gonna get it" and she was referring to the negative backlash of speaking out about this and about Jackson. Both men have said they've had death threats etc already. It's the batshit crazy fans of Jackson, Streisand, Ross etc that are the ones making those threats. Those women need to keep their mouths shut because them tweeting their opinions just makes the situation even worse for the specific victims, and other victims of sexual abuse in general. No-one is going to issue a death threat to Diana Ross based on anything I post here...but some of Ross' 90,000 twitter followers may well do that to either Wade or Jimmy based on what she posts on her social media. Her opinion may not personally have any effect on you, but you're being wilfully ignorant by not acknowledging that the "cult of celebrity" exists for MANY other people.

Her remarks are not unusual for a survivor of Child Sexual Abuse that is in denial. It can be quite bizarre. My mother was a survivor, yet in a single conversation she told me that she did not know anyone abused AND told me who abused her, who abused her sister, who abused my sister and who abused my brother. It does very odd things to one's mind.
Streisand's remarks also remind me of remarks about rape victims back in the day. How because the victim could walk away, no damage done. After all, it is just sex.

And if Elizabeth Taylor was alive, she’d be saying the same things too. It’s so disgusting on all levels. I think I’m going to rewatch the Oprah special to see what a decent and moral celebrity is all about.

That shows how little she know about how sexual abuse damages the victims. Adults + children + sex = always wrong. Yep. It changes everything, and I mean everything, about you and how you live your life. PTSD for sure. Very disappointing that she said that.

Oh, and btw, for the slower among us who blather stupidity like "if Baba was conservative...", Babs IS a LIBERAL. And here are a bunch of LIBS totally disgusted and railing at her idiocy. See how that works?!?!??!

I’ve read her apology about ten times and I’m still looking for the words “I’m sorry for what I said.”
I’m sure James and Wade are comforted by the fact that she admires them for speaking “their” truth, as if there could be several different versions of the truth.
