Between me and DH, we're waiting for a break........ This time it was me in the hospital for a week. Last Sunday afternoon I began getting sharp stomach pains. Figured it was something I ate. Took my stomach meds (I'm on 3 Rx's for my stomach/throat), but nothing helped. It got to the point where DH urged me just to get in the car and go to the hospital. I walked to the car on all 4's--the pain was so bad. Had my barf bucket with me and used it the whole way there (gross). The pain was worse than labor. Thought it might be my diverticulitis, but it was more in the middle/upper part of my stomach (like a hiatal hernia) and the entire bottom stomach was swollen and cramped over.......
The E.R. took me right in and admitted me, and they did a CT scan that showed blockage. I'm on pain meds, so I'm constantly backed up (TMI, sorry). There's nothing I've tried without ending up in the E.R. that helps with that....... Even baking soda/water leaves me in excruciating pain. They admitted me because they wanted to see what was going on. No diverticulitis, but my entire lower intestines were inflamed. They ran another CT scan with barium and began me on probiotics which had me tied to the bathroom and still in pain. Every Rx they tried on me to get me regular didn't work. I begged them to just focus on the testing and not try to regulate me since it was too painful. I was also in severe migraine mode (too many triggers).
They did an endoscopy & it showed what I knew about my esophogus (1 side is almost collapsed--I have to keep tabs on it and they'll open it up with a balloon if it gets worse), but they said that my upper intestines looked okay. No hiatal hernia. They did 2 biopsies (hope that's routine!!). The final outcome was something at the bottom of my esophogus, but I can't recall the name for it & it wasn't in the hospital release papers (worst hospital here!)......... I'll figure it all out.
On day 6 I handled an Ensure and they let me go home. I lost 10 lbs. I KNEW that I was bloated and feeling heavy & I wasn't eating more than usual, so that's a clue. My stupid primary said, "Don't focus so much on a few lbs! YOu're fine!" Nice, eh? I know my body.......
So, I have to follow up with a new gastro and he said that my diet is reasonable for what I have going on. No more seltzer though --I'm sad! I have seltzer with meals but he thinks it's too bubbly for me to handle & I can't burp or pass gas........ I'm a wreck! I'll go to the gastro soon for follow up tests, and begin Lactalose to try to combat the pain meds block ups....... But, OMG, what pain my entire stomach was in..... I'm still so sore!
I missed the Peas. I'll have to catch up when I'm stronger.

Magnesium Citrate in lemon will work. You will hate me forever but it does work. I may need to go throw up now. I hate that stuff. It does work.

Sorry you have been through all that. Do you like pumpkin things? Pumpkin can work wonders. NOT pumpkin pie filling in the can, but rather real plain pumpkin in a can, add less then a tablespoon to start mixed into something ..... Maybe only a teaspoon. Magnesium Citrate in lemon will work It comes in a green bottle already mixed with lemon. Part of a clean out prep. I think I would ask about easy on your body solutions.... but I also think more natural things might be best at least for now. Hope you are doing better soon!!

I've had it before (for preps), so I know it eventually works, but I wind up in the E.R. because I bloat up like I'm 10 mos pregnant, get into excruciating pain, and it takes forever for it to pass through. This time it took the 6 days!!! Not normal! That even happened with just baking soda/water! Have to have a real plan of action with a good doctor (and get off the pain meds).

DD31 is in animal care and she gives the pumpkin to dogs or cats that have diarrhea. I'm all passed through that (after 6 days), so I'm barely eating right now.......... Kinda scared to fill my belly again! ANY clean-out prep for me ends up to be dangerous--even baking soda, so I have to be really careful. You're right--it has to be natural and really gentle. We'll figure it out. Thanks!!!

Baking soda is an antacid, I've never heard of using it for constipation.
You need a stool softener daily if you're not already taking one. Until you get off the pain meds, you could try one of the Rx constipation meds. I think Linzess is one? For opioid induced constipation? That's if you're not having luck with OTC things. I think senna is a wonderful thing, personally. Gentle and natural.

I agree with natural and gentle. I know you've been thru a LOT. And I think we have talked about the chronic pain med's. I want to again voice my concerns with the med's. Long term pain med's are evil. The medical field can basically tell if a pt is on chronic pain med's. It's very difficult to control their pain, control their bodies and get them back to semi-normal. Basically there is going to be horrible long term affects you are going to start see being on them. I know that doesn't help now. Hoping things look up for you!!

I think senna is a wonderful thing, personally. Gentle and natural. I did see baking soda used for constipation too, on a homeopathic website. Didn't work & it hurt.....
ALL stool softeners hurt. When I had my hysterectomy 7 years ago, we found out that they hurt too much, so my ob/gyn gave me a prune concoction recipe to have. That actually wasn't as bad......... (good reminder!).
Anything with senna bound me up and made me all bloated too. Senakot was SO painful..........
They did try all 5 different Rx's for the opioid induced constipation, but it was bad timing with everything else, so I just had constant diarrhea and pain. They tried probiotic shots too-no good. They stopped it all and my tummy settled down eventually! Now I'll have to be SUPER careful and keep on top of it. Hoping the Lactalose works when I need it, and we'll have it included daily if it does. I'm a work in progress for sure!
mikklynn: Thank you SO much--you're so sweet!

After my eye surgeries, I assumed I'd be off of them, but with 3 surgeries in a year and tons of recovery periods, my pain mgmt team wanted me to stay on them (take as little as I could get away with) and then SLOWLY wean off when I'm all done. Then we could figure out what to use for pain. I'll always have pain from the scar tissue though, but it won't be anything like it was.........
Just having a horrid year thusfar with allergens, etc., leaving me dependent on the daily meds. Trying my hardest not to take them unless it's absolutely necessary.
Thanks, Cindy. I appreciate it!

I had DH with me in the hospital at first, but sent him home when he began to get congested. I didn't need his health to get any worse (cancer, heart issues, diabetes, he had sepsis last year........), so I made him go home. I was totally alone in the hospital, which really sucked! Not to be a baby, but I couldn't press the stupid nurse call button b/c I was hooked up to I.V.'s on both arms..... Felt so helpless! I'm happy to be back home!
Turned out that DH missed 5 days of his heart meds (he knew that 1 pill was missing from his pillcase, but didn't know which one it was! I ordered it and he never picked it up!).......... Have to teach him to be more proactive--he depends on me a lot regarding his health.
