What firmness do you sleep on? We have a SUPER soft one now and I have horrible lbp and stiffness in the morning. We just went on vaca last week and our condo had a firm/extra firm mattress and I loved it! DH, not so much! That leaves me thinking that we need a sleep number but I am worried about the cost and quality of them. I have heard good and bad about them.
Have you found that you need a firmer mattress to improve your pain?

Yes! I, with great trepidation, bought a new temperpedic about a month ago. I laid on the firm one and it felt so good! The soft ones killed my hips.
I'm sold. It is quite firm and my morning back pain is way less! I have had back surgery and have 2 more herniated discs so anything that helps is awesome!

We have a sleep number and I'm a 45 to 55 depending on how I feel. DH is a 25. He prefers to sleep in a nest. We love ours, and haven't had any issues. We've had the same bed for more than 10 years.

We have a firm mattress as I have rods in my back and would have severe lower back pain on anything else. My husband let me do the mattress shopping as he knew how important it was. Of course he could sleep standing up in a tornado, so that helps! I have not heard good things about sleep number beds.

I have a sleep number mattress and have back surgery 10 years ago. I like a very firm mattress and set it to 85. Best investment I have made for my back.
The mattress we had prior, was new and I would have to get up as soon as a I woke up and move around to loosen my back. Not any more!

Before they were Sleep Number, the company was called Select Comfort. We've had ours for about 17 years. I'm the one with back problems, so I keep my side firm. He keeps his side mushy.

I've had back problems in the past and soft saggy mattresses are the worst!

I have hip and lower (mostly tail bone) problems and there are times I wake up so sore I can barely move. I have a sleep number bed and I know when I wake up sore I have to adjust my number. There are times that having it firm hurts and there are nights where having it softer hurts. I usually have to adjust it in the middle of the night. There is no way I could sleep on a traditional mattress because I couldn't adjust it. Having a hot tub helps. I know that my problem is laying mostly on my left side makes the hip issue worse. but I don't sleep most of the time and lay in bed watching tv. so when my hip starts hurting I will flip my head to the foot of the bed and lay there on my right side. I will also adjust the bed number. I do know that when I sleep on the softer numbers my tail bone hurts worst so I do try to keep the mattress pretty firm.
