Instead of powdered soap. Our repair man came today to work on the dishwasher and told us not to put the soap tabs in the detergent dispenser. The dispenser is only for the powder. He said to just put the tab in the bottom of the dishwasher. Am I the only one who did not know this?

I thought it had on the box to place them in the dispenser.

I've never heard not to put them in the dispenser, that's where I always put mine.

Thanks for this information. I had no idea of this and had put these tabs in the soap dispenser.

The instructions say to put them in the dispenser--the part that opens during the main wash cycle. If you put it in the bottom, it seems that it would dissolve too early.

The manual for my DW, a Miele, says to put them in the dispenser. It's released during the wash cycle and not the pre-rinse.

The repair man said that we were getting too much soap all at once when it is in the dispenser. We have really soft water here, so maybe it is a local problem. I have noticed that the dishes seem to still have some soap on them when I use them. It is mostly noticeable with the glasses.

I think I would go with what the manufacturer of the product says over the repairman. They are not made to go in the bottom of the dishwasher, hence I will not put them there. But then, I use the gelpacs instead of the tablets, anyways.

But then, I use the gelpacs instead of the tablets, anyways. I totally agree - they go though such testing these days that I doubt the repair guy can keep up with it. In fact, if you have a pre-rinse cycle, the tab would disintegrate before the wash cycle actually took place...

I have a fairly new dishwasher and I put the tabs in the dispenser. I haven't noticed any problems. Nest time I run it I will put it in the bottom and see if anything is different.

Always put mine in the dispenser. It is 14 years old so have no idea where the manual is.

The little door to my detergent dispense broke 2-3 years ago. I always throw the tabs in the bottom of the dishwasher and haven't had a minute's problem.

I've always thrown mine into the bottom. I used to have a dishwasher with a dispenser that wouldn't hold the tabs. Dh saw me fighting with it and was like, "here, let me show you how to make it fit." And he threw it in the bottom. Much easier. I've continued the practice at our new home with our new dishwasher. Never had any problems.

I lived at the beach where we had to have whole house water softeners to combat hard water and that awful sulfur smell from the wells dug under the salt marsh type earth.
Our dishes had lots of extra soap. I would bet the water is the culprit.

We always throw ours in the bottom of the dishwasher instead of putting it in the little dispenser. A repair man told us to do this years ago.
He also said to only buy the tabs that you unwrap - to never put the plastic covered ones in the dishwasher as the plastic can gum up the machine.

The door on our dispenser is broken so we just throw them in the bottom!

My installer/repair guy said to put it in the dispenser of my Bosch - 1.5 years old. In fact, Bosch included a pack of Finish tabs and a small bottle of JetDry. I can't imagine that the manufacturer would include tabs with your purchase and tell you in the manual to put them in the dispenser, if you weren't supposed to. In my machine, at least, I'll politely disagree with your repair guy.

We always put them in the dispenser and have had no problems with residue on our dishes. It makes sense that water quality would effect the product. Do you still use a rinse aid product?

I am too lazy to put it in the dispenser, I just toss it in. I guess my laziness pays off, lol

I had a repairman tell me to always put in the dispenser , but we have hard water here so maybe that makes the difference. He also told me to make sure to run the water in the sink till it was the hottest so that the cleaning cycle in the DW would work better and help dissolve the soap better. Ever since I started doing that it was seemed to help with the hard water spots.

I've always put mine in the dispenser and never had any trouble. (Well, except for the one time that I got the laundry tabs by mistake......that was unfortunate......LOL)

We also put ours in the dispenser with no problems. It really would never have occurred to me to just toss it in!

I put the tabs in the soap dispenser, but I never close the dispenser door because even with powder it never reliably opens.

i wonder if age of the dishwasher makes a difference too. Mine is new and says to put them in the dispenser and came with a sample of them so that's the kind I buy.
the water is very hard and it's driving me insane, the dishwasher manual says to use jetdry all the time to help with that and it seems to.
I'm considering applying jet dry to my shower door, but haven't yet.
