We've discussed lunch bags, so I was wondering. Do you used baggies, reusable containers like the widely available ziplock sets or something else more brand specific? Do you have a favourite thermos or something similar? I'm stocking up on stuff as I'll be packing my lunch for the first time in 25 years starting next week. I will be taking a lot of salads, the odd sandwich, fruit, a baked treat and occasionally soup/stew type meals.

I have a few sets of Rubbermaid containers. I have sandwich shaped, round salad sized, smaller containers for fruit, yogurt or treats. We also have several thermoses. A big thermos that dh brings to work full of coffee. Smaller ones that I would bring to work full of hot water with a ziploc or small containers of tea bags. We also have 2 thermoses that carry pasta/soups/stews/chilli. Everyone has a refillable water bottle and we have several travel Contigo cups. Thermoses are freaking expensive!! We've tried the cheaper ones and they just don't work. These last a long time.
I just bought dd a Rubbermaid container set last week at our local Walmart. It was under $10 for a 20 piece set of lunch sized containers. She wants to pack her own lunch for school when she moves away.
New job Karin?

We've used the Laptop Lunches boxes for the last...um...6 years or so. I'm not 100% sure that's what I'd use if I were just starting out now, but it's what we have and I have several containers so it isn't worth switching. That having been said, I have no objections to them, but there are now cheaper alternatives out there.

We use rubbermaid or tupperware containers. No thermos - we just heat anything up at work in the microwaves.

Lock & Lock all the way, baby. Have them in many sizes. I use the square one-cups a ton, usually for fruit.

Reditainers. Those containers given to you when you buy deli foods. They're great and come in a variety of sizes.

This past month I've been switching out my plastic Tupperware / Rubbermaid stuff for glass containers. No more stained stuff from heating food in it and I don't have to worry if I'm ingesting plastic residue. I've been switching to Pyrex with microwave safe lids and Rubbermade glassware.

Another vote for the Laptop Lunch brand of containers. We have quite a few from when my kids were in elementary school. My anal nature loves how they all fit so neatly into the carrying box. When we travel, we often pack a stack of them with a variety of healthy food as snacks and an alternative to fast food.

My brother lives here and takes his lunch to work. For anything he's planning to heat up, I have miniature Corning ware casserole dishes from the 70's he uses. For cold things he uses Lock and Lock. I have tons of it in ever shape and size.

I recently bought this cute microwave bowl. It's supposed to be for noodles but I put lots of different stuff in there, mainly leftovers. I also have another green one the same brand that is taller and skinnier, for soup. If I'm having a sandwich or wrap I just wrap it in cling film and carry it in a shopping bag.

I use bento stuff for dd and for me it depends what I'm bringing. I have big plastic containers for salads and glass containers for leftover I want to microwave. I also use baggies for snacks like almonds mixed with m & ms

I usually just use whatever I have on hand, but am looking for something new. My main issue is keeping food the temp that I want it to be. I drive around a lot for work and usually am eating in my car. In the winter, everything gets too cold and the rest of the year it won't stay cold. I have various thermal bags and thermos food containers, but none seem to work all that well with such drastic temps.

Ziplock brand divided containers. (About $4 for 2 at Target). Love those things and they fit flat in my lunchbag. Learned about them from the 99 days of real food blogger. Then I have the small 1/2 cup ziplock round containers for fruit, 1 cup ones for cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. And small squeeze bottles (target, near the ziploc bags) that I keep olive oil and balsamic vinegar in for my salads.

I use a mix of items. Some of it is re-claimed previous food purchases like Panda Express bowls and the little bowls used by KFC have tight fitting lids. I wash and reuse those. I also re-use the tubs my shredded parm comes in. I don't mind if these end up forgotten in the car and are better off just tossed instead of cleaned again.
I use zip lock baggies and some plastic bowls I found at a grocery store with screw on lids for (3 bowls for $4) I also have some lock and lock. But I am lucky enough to have a fridge to store my lunch until meal time and a microwave to heat it before eating.

I have the same ones as AussieMeg, they're great. I especially like the vents for when you use them in the microwave. DS bought them for me for my birthday after listening to me moan about the plates etc that are available at work.

I've migraged to the pyrex glass containers. I won't heat anything in plastic anymore though I'm sure the "damage" is already done at this point. I have a MaxCold cooler. I love it. Keeps things cold for quite a while.

I use the Pyrex containers exclusively for hot foods. I have some larger Gladware containers that I use for salads, and some 2-oz littles that are perfect for dressings.
