I was given a set of beautiful milk glass dishes. There are dinner plates, salad plates, dessert plates and bowls. There is also a sugar and creamer set and a platter. The printing on the bottom says Fire King Ovenware. I did a little searching and found out they are possibly from the 1950's and are milk glass. I was thinking of selling them, but not sure now. I was wondering how I can find out much they are worth. Honestly, I thought of selling before I realized how old they are. Now I'm thinking about holding on to them, but want to find out if it is worth it. My mom had a set of glasses that we used for holiday dinners when I was growing up. I asked her for them and apparently my aunt had these dishes that went along with them. The dishes really don't hold any sentimental value to them for me because I didn't know they existed. I don't have a ton of space to store them, so not sure what to do with them all.

I personally would make the decision about whether I want to keep them based upon how much I like them instead of by their value (unless I need cash). As to value, I would research eBay to find their worth. I think milk glass is awfully prefty, as it hobnail (is that what the glass with bumps on it is called?) milk glass. I'd probably keep at least some of it I live in a condo and don't really have the space or interest in storing a complete second set of dishes though. Good luck whatever you decide! Oh and feel free to post some pics!

Oh and feel free to post some pics! They are very pretty, but space is at a premium, we live in a fairly small townhouse. I would have to figure out where to store them. We have a set of dishes that were DH's mom that are Christmas patterned and I have a set of dishes that were my grandmothers, not valuable at all, but sentimental and pretty. We also have our every day dishes and a small set of Christmas dishes that DH and I bought before we inherited his moms. We are all dished out, LOL. I'm not even sure where I am going to put the glasses that I wanted. We already have "good" glasses and every day glasses. I put the little dessert bowls (there were only 4 of them) to the side, I was going to keep those and use them for trinkets or something. The platter from the same brand is on Etsy for $23. I’d keep them myself. I have my Grammas entire milk glass table setting. My favorite is the coffee cups and saucers. But I know what you mean about space to store them. I’ve inherited 4 sets of China so far and it’s a lot!!

Do you have children? Maybe gift them to them. or put away for them later.

If you sell them, try locally first. Shipping that stuff is expensive, even if you can get a higher price from an online marketplace/auction.

I have been collecting milk glass for years. Some of it is pricey but that depends more on the shape and the pattern. Fluted pieces or the hobnail pattern are the ones most people look for. Sets like yours aren't as popular because of the gold rim. I have mostly what I call containers - vases, bowls, cream and sugars etc. I rent them out for weddings. I probably have 45 bud vases alone. I buy 95% of my pieces at thrift stores and yard sales. I have around 140 pieces in all. Most of it is of basically no value except for short term use like weddings. I rent them out about 4-5 times a year.

If you keep them you should know they need to be washed by hand. The gold rim will not survive many trips through the dishwasher. Not a good idea to put them in the microwave either, the rim may "spark".
Since shipping is so high I would get an idea of what they are selling for on Ebay and then offer them up a little lower on a local site.
I was once in the collectables business and I have found most glassware has gone way down in value in recent years. If possible I would box them up and keep an eye on the market. This trend may not last forever and those are really nice.
ETA - I have one of the shallow bowls, rim is all worn off and it is no longer pretty but it is my favorite dish. I live alone and it is the perfect size for me.

I have several pieces of hobnail milk glass, which I love. I haven't paid a lot for the pieces - i.e. the candy dishes were between $25 and $35.

Those are pretty. Not at all what I expected them to look like. Sounds like y’all are “dished out.” My vote us to give them to someone you know would appreciate them

That's what I was thinking. I have 2 boys, 15 and 10 years old. So I was thinking of holding on to the dishes for them. i think that would be a lovely gift for them someday. or a future DIL.

This is so random. I have that exact set of dishes that I've just been googling to get an idea how much to sell it for (I have 8 servings plus a platter and creamer). We're buying a home from my husband's 87 year old great aunt who had a hoarding issue and this is among several full sets of dishes we're going to sell for her. We're basically having a DIY estate sale in a few weeks. I also have a bunch of pieces of hobnail milk glass and some depression glass. Nice things, but many were purchased, then tucked away and never used or even known about so it is sad to me to see them now, especially knowing the condition the home was when she was living there. The aunt is in a nursing home now and will move into assisted living with the funds from the home sale and the estate sale.

I love those! You should have no problem selling them. I’ve frequently seen bits and pieces but never a large set like yours.
I love milk glass but have a small home and have to pick and choose my pieces carefully.

I'm a milk glass collector as well but I haven't come across a complete set like that. Shipping would be crazy so you might be best to post it on a local garage sale/collector site if you aren't plannig5on storing them.

I don't really like them and if someone gave them to me I would probably get rid of them., Not even bother taking the time to see them.

I am not sure that is really considered milk glass, but it is a lovely set of fire king.
Use it! I have some orange fire king I love.
