. From top to bottom: Dd 18: it basically translates to “it gets better.” She went through hell and back over the course of a few years. So it’s both a celebration and reminder of how far she’s come. Dd 20: it’s a quote from Les miserables and the word wild is victor hugos handwriting. She’s been obsessed with this story since the first time she read it, at 12 years old. Me: it’s a concept sketch for a costume from the last show I dressed. It was everyone’s favorite part, easily the best show I had ever put together, and the last time I worked with my director before he passed away

Nope. I don't have any. and my girls don't have any. I am sure they will get some down the road, but I've talked them out of them so far. They are early 20s. I feel like a 20 yr old shouldn't get a tattoo for life, til she's lived a bit. My one dd is on her way to becoming a lawyer, and I've stressed professionalism, and getting them somewhere not so noticeable. I do know society is more accepting of tattoos and piercings these days. She assures me that several of the lawyers she currently works with have them. Mainly on their wrist, foot, ankle areas.

I have 6 but no pictures on my phone. I have at least three more designs I want to get but need to decide which one I want more.

My DD20 has several. Ballerinas on her upper arm, Japanese doll on her ankle, moomintroll on her other arm, grl pwr on her leg and an Origami crane on the inside of her forearm. I have a few from many years ago although I had an armband redone two years ago.

I would love one before I shuffle off but my skin healed very badly after the two ops I’ve had and I’m worried it would do the same and I’d be left with a coloured, lumpy mess.
DS1 designed a koi carp and lotus flowers which he has in colour right up his calf and across his torso. He has a black repeating geometric shape on one upper arm and probably more that he is unwilling to share with me. I wish I had photos as they are beautiful and extremely well drawn.

es I do. 3 chickadees: 1 to represent my tiny but mighty 14 year old son (former preemie) and one above represents my husband and his unwavering support the other chickadee you can’t see on the backside of my forearm is flying/landing based on the saying “A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because her trust is not on the branch but on it's own wings” I have a Celtic cross on my back. Got it when I was 18 to honor my step dad (now passed) but it’s awful, lol. I still like it though because of the sentiment and might one day try to fix it.

DS has a 3/4 sleeve down his arm of a snake and Japanese maple leaves. On his back he has a massive hawk. He wants to get Fushin and Rajin which are other Japanese symbols and I may have the name wrong. I think they are thunder and lightening. He got his tattoos done in Japan much to the chagrin of his grandmother and father. I had to arrange it and everyone was mad at me for permitting it.
DDIL has 3 triangles on her collar bone and a mandala on her arm.

DS 24 is the only one with ink. He has the Deathly Hallows on his upper right chest. Got it, without telling us, on his 18th birthday. It does look cool!
I want ink, but can't decide what or where. The last line of my summer camp's legend is "All is well, all is well." I like the "All was well" I saw above. Maybe that?

I got one when I was 43, I think. Very few people know about it. My extended family would be pretty judgy I think, so they don't need to know. It isn't somewhere that anyone would see. It's a blue outline of a heart and the right side is three footprints. One for each of my kids.
I've told my kids I didn't care if they got a tattoo, but they should wait until they were at least 25. And to keep any tattoo below the neck. I don't think it's something that should be taken lightly. That said, my kids are not the type that would get tattoos. They all have a very healthy aversion to needles.

My DD has one on her inside wrist. Faith in her handwriting. She was really struggling with some personal issues in her sophomore year at college. I did not try to talk her out of it.
My YDS is a sailor and has 2. One on his lower forearm. The internal side and one on his chest. I just asked him last week while we were chatting, if he was thinking about a third. He said he was thinking on his third while getting his second.
I have one on my inside left ankle. It is a dragonfly, which has a special meaning to me. This is is extra special as if is made up of my kiddos' initials. One of these days, I'll learn how to post a photo and I'll get it in this post.

I have one on the inside of my ankle. I was 32 when I got it & had just came out of a dark depression and its is based on Hebrews 6:19. I really love that tattoo. My brother was in the Navy and I have been thinking of getting an anchor tattoo in his memory (because he was also my anchor) - I really like this a lot especially since it is based one Hebrews 6:19 as well.

Thank you! I never wanted a tattoo until I saw this design and then I knew I wanted it. If I had to do it again, I would do it in white ink - mainly because I sometimes want to cover it up when I get dressed up. Otherwise I love it.

Ok...disclaimer here......I’m old! I don’t have any nor any desire to get any.
I also haven’t read what everyone has written. When I think of tattoos I think of sagging ones. I’ve seen some sagging ones. They look just nasty. Kinda like a kid has scribbled on an arm or leg.
Aren’t you, any of you concerned about the future look of the tatoos?

I got my first (and only at this point) tattoo when I was 46 (I’m a couple months from 48). I figured by that point I was old Enough to be sure if what I wanted. it’s on my inside upper arm- starts after my elbow crease- and says: it is well (as in it is well with my soul). I really love it and am happy I got it. The same month while dd 1 was in a mission trip in New Zealand (and China and Nepal) she got a cross on her forearm. She was 24. My other two dds (22 and 19) don’t have them. 19 year old thinks she may want one someday on the back of her neck to be see if her hail was in a ponytail but she says she would want to wait years and see how she feels about it.

I actually have 7 tattoos. My ds has a sleeve and a few others. He got his first one on his 18th birthday as a gift from me. We went together and both got one. He got his guitar that turns into the tree of life at the top. It’s about 13-14 inches, on his rib cage and I love it. I got cherry blossoms on top of my left foot.

I got my first tattoo at the age of 50 and have since gotten two more. I have one large one on each shoulder, based on photos I've taken. I have "hope" scrawled on the top of my foot...that was done on a beach trip. Not necessarily planned. My girls each have a tattoo. Eldest DD has a small music themed tattoo on the inside of her ankle and DD#2 has a world map inside her wrist in white ink. DD#1 probably wants more while DD#2 has no desire to get anything else done. DS doesn't have any yet, but I think he will get something soon. I'd love to have more. But I have to be mindful of placement where they're not visible at work and I want to be mindful of not placing them on my body that will be impacted by weight loss/gain. Attachments:

Aren’t you, any of you concerned about the future look of the tatoos? I have three currently; I didn't get my first one until I was in my 30s... and I never thought before that I was a 'tattoo' sort of person in the past... I'm not concerned about what they will look like when I'm older, wrinkled and sagging, because I didn't get them for how they look to other people- I got them for what they mean to me. Other than the tattoos, I'm not what anyone would ever call 'edgy' or hip at all, lol. I dress pretty conservatively, I don't have any piercings, etc. Just the tattoos. I'm a visual person, and I like having things important to me represented visually where I can see them. my first, on the top of my right foot: the word 'strength' underlined with a pink ribbon (in honor of my sister surviving breast cancer and for me to remember that I am stronger than I think) my second, on my left shoulder blade: a winged heart with a cat paw and a dog paw inside... for all the pets in my past so I can keep them close to my heart. That one didn't look quite like I hoped from an artistic standpoint when it was done, so I've had it worked on to improve it. (I can't see this one, but I wanted it close to my heart and I didn't want it on my chest.) my third, on the inside of my left forearm: a feather landing on the water-- the feather is black with white spots (feather of a Common Loon) and is in honor of my dad when he was diagnosed with lung cancer, and to remind me of all of our vacations in Minnesota when I was growing up. the BIG one that I really want but I've been waffling because I really want it to look GOOD, and it needs to be custom designed: on my right upper arm-- but a large design that will look like a Victorian postcard design in a horseshoe (something like this one) with lilies of the valley and either lilacs or peonies, a butterfly of some sort, a book, and something to represent art. This one is to honor my mom and my Grandma (her mother) and my love of nature, books and art. I also want one of the astrological sign Gemini- possibly on the back of my neck. I also want one on the inside of my right wrist-- a simple, small design to represent my struggles with my weight and depression... but I don't know what the design will be yet. Maybe a word? I like the typewriter font used on the quote from Les Mis... I guess it's pretty true that once you get one, they're addictive, lol!

I don't have any tattoos at this time. I have webbed toes on each foot and want to have dash lines between them with a tiny pair of scissors ✂at the base of the toe. My youngest daughter has several tattoos. Her first one was a Suzy Zoo duck on her left shoulder. She has duck foot tracks across right foot. On the inside of each wrist is a Japanese symbol one for beauty and one for faith. Across her lower back is a tribute to her Dad beautiful Angel wings on either side with the number 22 back to back making a heart. Last year she got one on her right shoulder that is another Suzy Zoo character, but I can't remember what it is.

Im not worried about mine since its on my ankle. Now, one of my best friends in High School got a spiral of circles with red ink around her belly button ( like THIS). Super cute when we were 18 with flat stomachs & were sexy. Not so much now that she has gained quite a bit of weight (from kids) and those circles now look like a dart board. Thank God I didn't get done when we were 18.

My husband I have our wedding date and each other's name on our left wrist. I can't find a picture, sorry. For Christmas 2017 we bought our son a GC to get his first tattoo. He came up with this design. It's the tree of life, Oden's ravens, and the Norse compass.

I know exactly what it would look like, too. Gotta have the infinity. She is the only person in my life that loved me unconditionally and made me feel special. Never have as I have skin sensitivities due to the Fibro. I experience echos of pain from injuries. Surgery terrifies me. Plus, I worry about a bizarre reaction to the ink. — Not far fetched with what I have already experienced.
