timings are a bit dodgy for a state visit with the Trooping of the Colour on May 25th, then the d-day celebrations immediately before the Queens official birthday on June 8 - with all that pomp and ceremony they will be hard pressed to fit in a state visit and (fingers crossed) they wouldn't want to detract from the d day celebrations with a state visit. Well Im hoping anyway!!

Any bets on what social graces, royal protocols he will fail to do this time? I hope he doesn't think that he can grab any of the Royals by the pussy. (Or anyone non Royal for that matter!) or he may find himself in the Tower.

We'll pray for you. It's like having the Eye of Sauron travel to you. You'll feel the darkness descend.

Most Trump supporters that I know think that the world respects the US much more now than they did when Obama was president. Perhaps I didn't pay close attention back then, but were there protests in the UK when Obama visited?

So yes possibly there were some as President Obama went about the world. But my impression is a lot of protests now outside this country are aimed toward the man more then US policies. Interesting little tidbit from Pew. Brian Klass.. ”Change in confidence in US president from Obama in 2016 to Trump in 2018 (Pew) Germany: -76% Sweden: -76% France: -75% Canada: -58% Australia: -52% UK: -51% Japan: -48% Russia: +8%” Edited to add. I think someone saw this poll. trump this morning. ”The Wall is being rapidly built! The Economy is GREAT! Our Country is Respected again!“

I won’t profess to knowing or understanding the reasoning behind this invitation, but I’m dismayed that an ally would be further legitimizing this president whose deceit and criminality have been proven by a 448-page report for all the world to see. And please do not have him speak at Parliament unless you’re keen on the murder of the English language.

It's not a given that any Head of State addresses the British Parliament on a State visit and many of them are not bestowed with an invite to do so. President Obama is the only US President to have ever been given that honour.
For the ones that are interested in this, this is him attending that event in 2011. The speaker of the house has the sole authority over the invitation. Bearing in mind that John Bercow ( the same man you see welcoming President Obama in the video) strongly opposed Trump doing so when he visited last year, I doubt that he has changed his mind or at least I hope he won't be persuaded to do so.

Theresa May, IMO was far too hasty in extending that invitation when he first took office and I'm sure as things have panned out, very many are regretting it, including her. We can always try and think of it as an invitation to the Office and Country, which is really what it is, rather than to the person that holds the office. The problem is the Office holder at the moment isn't going to see it that way. He'll see it as a personal invitation, unfortunately.

I'm just trying to imagine what introduction could be given to trump along the lines of Mr Bercow's in that clip welcoming Mr Obama, that wouldn't frankly sound ridiculous.

One can't begin to compare what Trump would say and the eloquent and informative speech that President Obama gave.

John Bercow actually scrubs up quite well despite being an odious little tw*t. I wonder if her Maj would like to visit here instead of remaining in England, if I extend an official invitation to her? To avoid her being in London? It’s a shame London is so far away. Being part of a protest against Trump, whilst “in his presence” is on my bucket list but he’s not worth the thousand odd £s it would cost me to get to London.

I needed to read and check a bit more of this and......... Most reports lead back to the White House statement put out earlier that DT is planning on a state visit to UK. I'm taking solace from that. Do the WH realize that there is a big difference between a STATE visit and a visit to join in the 75th anniversary of D Day landing? I don't think they do. It wouldn't be them that would invite themselves on a STATE visit it would be the other way round. It would also be protocol that it would be Buckingham Palace that would make the first announcement not the WH. Quoting the Guardian here "It is unusual for a state visit to be announced at such short notice, and details of the visit have yet to be finalised with fewer than six weeks to go " This gives a bit more comfort as we can't really stop him ( nor should we ) to come over to join Britain and France in the 75th anniversary. I just wish they would send someone else to represent the US. I'm hoping that this is the case and that it will not be a STATE visit. Why shouldn't you be able to stop him? You simply tell him. "Sorry Donnie... you're not welcome. Send the Secretary of State.' The British public should be making it abundantly clear to your government that you don't want him in your country. I would certainly speak up if he were invited into Canada again.

I hope he has a miserable trip and that the protesters go out of their way to make him regret choosing to go on the trip.
