What have you done with hormone replacement therapy? I have my follow up next week. Right now I'm a month post surgery but not on any hormone replacement therapy. I had the surgery done for endometriosis and also PMDD.

Nothing here. I've had breast cancer so I can't take the hormone replacement medications anyway. I just make sure to get enough calcium. No problems whatsoever.

I had a hysterectomy in 2000. I haven’t taken anything. No problems at all.

I had a hysterectomy 13 years ago and did take meds a little while following surgery. I never felt a difference so I stopped taking them. I do get hot flashes sometimes but nothing that is unbearable.

I have been on HRT since I had my ovaries removed. It’s been 25ish years and I’m good with it. I take the smallest dosage they make.

I can't take hormone replacement therapy because I previously had a stroke. After my hysterectomy and oopherectomy, my gyn oncologist recommended Estroven, which is a natural supplement that helps reduce menopause symptoms. I was lucky that I just had a few (literally, just a few) hot flashes, and then they were done.

I had both done when I was 24. I didn't do anything for the first 14 years. I am now on Bio-T hormones but don't plan on being on them forever. I have had a stroke (at 34) so I am taking a very calculated risk, but for me, quality of life is so much better when I am on hormones. Now that my dad has been diagnosed with breast cancer, I am going to be re-evaluating my decision sooner than I intended to. BUT before knowing I had breast cancer in my immediate family, I would have taken Bio-T hormones as long as I could.

My total hysterectomy was in 1976 and I've taken Premarin daily since then.

Have had both surgeries and have never taken anything. I'd wait to see how you do with out them.

This gives me hope because I don't want to take anything. I'm 43 if that matters. I also have weight to lose and I have read estrogen is stored in fat. If that's the case then I have a reserve for a little while as I continue to lose weight. I've lost ten pounds so far post surgery.

I had a stroke so I take nothing and am totally fine. My mom had a hysterectomy when she was 36 and never took anything, was fine and passed away at 86.

I had a hysterectomy in 2012, but my fallopian tunes and ovaries were left. My ovaries shrunk right away. I had immediate intense hot flashes 24/7 so I went on estrogen (Medicare). I tried cutting back on it and it was horrible (7 years later!!). Hoping to come off of the estrogen soon because it scares me!
Good luck!

My total hysterectomy was in 1976 and I've taken Premarin daily since then. Premarin vaginal cream? I've been on that since 2012 also, combined with a low dose estrogen.

If that's the case then I have a reserve for a little while as I continue to lose weight. I've lost ten pounds so far post surgery. I was 51 when I had my hysterectomy and I was thin. I got the hot flashes within 24 hours after the surgery and I gave it a week. Then I begged the doctor to do something. The hot flashes were constant, stinky and a disruption with sleeping and just getting by. I've heard that if your periods are terrible then you'd probably wind up needing hormone replacement. Glad to read that so many Peas didn't need anything! Amazing.

I’m 44 and had my surgery 3 years ago. I’ve not done any hormone replacement therapy and I’m fine. I take calcium and do weight bearing exercise. I also take a small dose of gabapentin each night to help with night sweats and to help me sleep.

I had a hysterectomy in 2002 and was immediately placed on HRT patches. In 2016 the doc decided it was time for me to stop. I had been miserable since then and my quality of life deteriorated. Headaches, aches, depression, exhaustion... 2 months ago my new doctor gave me a script for the same patches and added Progesterone. I’m 54 and living again!

I had my surgery 5 years ago, and haven't taken anything. My Gyn told me I was menopausal before the surgery, so my natural estrogen levels were low anyway at the time I had the surgery. Last year, I was diagnosed with an estrogen respondent breast tumour, so I would have to have stopped any supplements then anyway - I am now on an estrogen blocker. I have had a few hot flushes, but nothing I can't deal with.
