My Big Shot has served me well for 10+ years (I bought it during the time I was a SU! demonstrator, so sometime between 2005 and 2009--maybe 2007 or 2008-ish?).
I'm ticked at Ellison/Sizzix b/c of the whole lawsuit hoopla and hope they LOSE, big time. I'm not one that will throw out all of my Sizzix stuff (I was not given any of it, purchased all of it with my hard-earned money), but I'm certainly not going to buy more. That's a little side note--I have seen pictures of the machines in the garbage--do you fall in that camp, or are you not going to get rid of your already purchased things, just not buy more, like me?
I've been considering the Gemini, Jr. and have a couple questions for those who already have this machine. Both of them stem from the fact that I put my die cutter on the top of my Ikea Raskog cart (I have the top shelf installed upside-down for this purpose) and I move it around me as I'm working.
1) Is it only power-cord operated, or is there a battery compartment? 2) I know there is no platform after it runs through the Gemini...do you think my plates, dies/paper will just fall on the floor, or do you think it will land on my Raskog?
I'm almost wondering if the Spellbinders machine is a better option for me. Any input?

There's only a power cord. Not sure about the falling out. I'm impatient so I always have my hand back there ready to catch the sandwich. In a little bit I'll try it without catching it and see what happens. Unless someone else posts in the meantime.

As strong as I feel about the Sizzix lawsuit crap, I am not going to throw out my Big Shot or dies. They were bought when Sizzix was a decent company, and I don't waste money like that. It wouldn't hurt Sizzix at this point. They already have my money for the Sizzix items I bought before I heard of the lawsuit.
I tried out my Gemini Jr this morning. Like Gale, I just wait to catch it. It's fast enough that I see no point in walking away to do something else. There isn't really time to do anything else in the tiny bit of time that it takes. if you wanted to, though, perhaps you could put a book about the right size right under where the plates come out. It would be less likely to end up on the floor, if that worries you.

Good call on the books, etc. I wouldn't walk away, but if I got distracted or something looking at my project I wouldn't want to go chasing plates, dies, and cardstock all over my floor.

The power cord is 60" long. One time the sandwich sort of stayed in the machine a little but the other two times it fell out.

Okay I tried stacking books behind it and that worked great. The sandwich ended up resting on the books.

I posted a ‘should I get a Gemini’ thread a few days ago on the scrapping board. There’s some good info on that thread as well. BTW I love the book idea.

The book idea is really smart, I'm going to do that. I usually walk away after I put the stuff in to cut, and it just falls onto my bookshelf and sometimes keeps going onto the Alex cart beside it.

What everyone else said. I put a box that happened to be the right size behind my Gemini Junior, with a bit of museum putty underneath it to hold it in position. Not that the plates would move it, or at least not much, but so I don’t unthinkingly shove it out of the way, since my hands move things without telling my brain.
But mostly I just grab the plates as they emerge - about 9 seconds, if I recall.
