Hear, hear. I thought i was the only person on the planet that won't eat cake. Nope. I'll gladly join you and MaryMary . But I do care how it's cut. Heathens!! All of you!!!

I've seen stuff like this on those Buzzfeed lists of "how to annoy anyone with OCD". It's all in jest, as I'm sure the Miss Manners post is too.

I think this was just covered on Blackish. Rainbow cut a circle around the center of a cake, then cut slices from the intact outside which left a small cake without frosting on the sides in the middle. I'm wondering if that is what the firefighter is trying to describe. He/she never said they take a slice from the middle, just that they make the first cut of the cake around the middle. Rainbow was mad becasue it's "common knowledge" that is how a cake is cut. This is how round cakes are “supposed” to be cut to. Ensure uniform pieces.

We cut into the cake the same way, but we don’t remove the center part. We have a family member who loves to eat that center piece lol

I'd just like to say that however I can get the most frosting is how the cake should be cut. And I'd like to go off topic a little bit, (but not really) by talking about the last time we got a takeout pizza. When I went to pick it up, the girl at the counter asked me if I wanted it cut (huh?) and when I said yes, because how the hell else are people going to eat it, she proceeded to take the pizza cutter to the pizza like Jeffrey Dahmer. In other words, not nice, uniform wedges, but random slicing like a raging psycho. So we're talking a 2" sliver crust to crust from the far right of the pizza with virtually no pizza filling/toppings, square pieces, rectangular pieces, etc. We went back yesterday and ordered a medium pizza and told the girl at the counter we wanted it cut normally, mentioning what happened the previous time. She told us that's how they taught them to slice large pizzas. One pizza place near us cuts a round pizza in half and then into strips. Most pieces have little crust, but then 4 pieces are mostly crust.

Back in the day when I was hosting crops and ordering pizzas, at some point someone said to have the pizzas cut into squares vs. wedges because people would eat less and throw less away. I didn’t believe it so over two different events I compared and did one event one way and another event the other way. Same number of attendees, etc. and it was true! We went through way less pizza when it was cut into squares, and a lot less was thrown away. So bizarre.

There’s a local place that cuts pizza that way, into strips and then crossways. The 4 corners are tiny wedges and my favorite! Cutting a cake in the middle first would have me judging that person hard forevermore. You can’t come back from that! Lol

I know a few people who cut the center out of cake. They don’t like frosting. And yes as a baker the correct way to cut a round cake is around the edge. You cut the heavily decorated piece of a rectangular cake first, for the honoree. Isn't it easier to not eat the frosting than to cut the center of a cake out? Or to wait for a center piece?

on cheapy cakes, i avoid the corners like the plague. so much sugar and oil! if i saw someone cut a cake starting from the center, i would think "whaaat the fuucccckkkkk is happening? "
