I would love to, but I don't have a machine. Amazon has one on special today, a Singer 7256 for $99. Would this be a good choice? And is it crazy to buy a sewing machine to use on scrap pages?? Though, I really would love to learn to sew!

No, I think it looks cool. But, I am not a sewer and the learning curve is too daunting/time intensive for me to take that on.

I have a sewing machine and I do sometimes sew, but have never sewn on LOs. I sorta like the look, but it's not really my style. Plus I'm more of a simple scrapper - for me it's just too much work! That said, I think $99 is reasonable for a basic sewing machine if you like the look and want to try it. And once you get started sewing, you might find other sewing projects calling to you!

Too much work. I have a sewing machine that I've never used, so that's intimidating too

Go for it!!! That sounds like a good price and all you need is a basic machine. I use my sewing machine on my layouts all the time...lately on everyone!! I love it. It gives an added texture and finished look. I say don't worry about just buying it for scrapbooking, because that is what you are into. If you decided to use it for something else down the road that's cool, but I don't think you have to justify buying it. By the way, sewing on paper is much easier than fabric and it doesn't have to be perfect. Have fun!! my blog: Artful Scrapbooking

I love sewing on my pages. I don't think it's too much work... I keep my sewing machine on a shelf, pull it out when I'm scrapping and leave it on the table. It stays plugged in and threaded. All I have to do is turn it on and sew. There's really no learning curve, either, other than learning how to thread it. But there are arrows on the machine to help with that.

I totally would if I had a dedicated space that it could stay all the time. I scrap on the kitchen table. My scrappy stuff plus my computer and cameo are more than enough for now! I have an ancient machine that i could use, but for now, hand stitching does the trick!

I don't have it, but Ikea sells a basic sewing machine... Think it's a bit less than the one you mentioned... Not sure if that helps...

Yes I do. I love how it looks, too. I was never good w/a sewing machine, though. I use the Sew Easy.
If you know you'll use it and have the space to keep it out all the time (you will never pull it out of the closet), I say go for it!

any full size sewing machine will do. I've used the smaller ones made for "crafts" and they were all crappy. now I just use my regular machine with no problems at all. the dull needles. no problems switching between paper, cardstock, and fabric.

If I had to haul mine out all the time, I would never use it. But, mine sits on my desk, ready to go. There is no real learning curve to using a machine. Just follow the manufacturer's instructions on threading the machine and purchase quality thread and you will be fine. Plus, any bunching up or messy sewing is all the rage anyway.

I used to think buying a sewing machine for just scrapbooking was a bit crazy.... but as I use mine all the time, I've realized it's not really any different than any of the other large tool investments we make! I use it more than I use a lot of my other scrapbooking tools.

I like the look but I don't know how to sew. I have a sewing machine and never learned to use it. I think Joann's has classes. Maybe I ought to look into it.

artisticscrapper, do you know how to thread your machine? Because honestly, that's really all you need to know! Practice on some old cardstock first.

I sew on layouts and cards, both with my machine and handstitching.

That sewing machine has been sitting in my closet for several years and I've never used it. I actually bought it for hemming but it's easier to just do that by hand. I need to be getting some use out of it. I'll check the instruction manual.

I purchased my machine specifically to sew on cards and layouts so I think it's a great idea. The hardest thing is learning how to thread the darn thing, other than that it's a breeze. As for being more work, well I consider it just another embellishment. Sometimes I want more, and it is an easy way to add texture to a layout or card. The only thing that takes more time is sewing around a shape other than a basic rectangle or square. I say for for it!

My sewing machine is strictly for scrapbooking. Some pages, stitching is the only thing that adds the right touch.
