I just something that said a junk drawer is a Midwest thing. So, do you have one, yes or no, and where are you from?
Bonus question, what is in your junk drawer?

"a" junk drawer? I have one in my kitchen, 3 in my bedroom (3 drawers in my night table), 1 in my office .... I'm in Alberta, but originally from B.C. where everyone I knew had junk drawers!!!
As for the bonus question? junk!

Of course I have a junk drawer - doesn’t everyone?! I’m in Scotland. 😀 If I were to tell you what is in it, I would be here for a long time and it would be a very boring read. 😄

We have two in our kitchen. They are called "junk drawers" and I am from the NYC metro area.
My dh grew up in New England and he calls it a "junk drawer" too and it was in his kitchen growing up.

I have always had a junk drawer in my kitchen. Originally from the Midwest. I thought everyone had one and all were called a junk drawer.
Mine contains pens, pencils, notepads, tape, glue, command hooks, scissors, bullnose clips, gum, the lighter for the BBQ and my checkbook. That's about it.

The one in the kitchen contains things like menus, flashlight, box cutter, scissors, odd screws and nails, some batteries, pens, etc. We also have one in our bedroom that has odd keys, luggage locks, pens, old credit cards, buttons, etc. And I live in the west coast. I thought a junk drawer was a universal thing.
Do you want to hear about out junk room?! Lol! We have no attic or basement and everything we don’t want on the other rooms, goes into this spare room. It has been on my clean out chore list for a couple of years.

From the South and have always had a 'junk' drawer. Albeit it is an extremely organized one! My mom used to show it off to her friends when she would stay with DD.

We have what I call a junk drawer, but it's actually pretty organized and doesn't have much stuff in there. It's in the kitchen and it has "satellite" supplies of things that are primarily stored elsewhere in the house or garage, but are needed often enough that having them at the ready makes sense. Things like a few batteries, a couple pens, a flat head and a Phillips head screwdriver, tape. I call it a junk drawer because the things aren't all related, like the cooking utensils drawer, but it's also not a catch-all. Only specific things belong in there.

Mine is a magical junk drawer. I periodically clean and organize it but the next time I open it up, it's a messy assortment of items again.

No.
I am a very “a place for everything and everything in its place” type person.
I don’t do anything that encourages people to leave things as opposed to dealing with them. No junk drawer, no mail on counters, no catch all bowls.

I actually don’t. I used to and it contained all kinds of things I never needed. It always had a screwdriver or two which I store with small house tools in the foyer closet, and rubber bands and twist ties which I never use anyway, and packets of ketchup and stuff which I never use either, and batteries which are in an organizer and...
I would not not not at all not the slightest bit consider myself organized, I just don’t have a junk drawer. I needed that space in my small kitchen much more.

I have a junk drawer (Oklahoma) It holds all the things that don't fit the categories of other drawers. opened partial packs of batteries, rubber bands from vegetables, odd things that belong to something but I don't know what, retractable tape measure and "clean" tools like pliers I use to remove bottle caps, seed packets,

I have one of those in the kitchen and a junk cupboard I'm in the UK. Mine has spare keys, an assortment of batteries, pens, elastic bands, paper clips, note pads, I could be here all night

Yes we do. It has keys, tape, a screwdriver, tapemeasure, and assorted weird stuff.
My husband grew up in St. Louis, for your Midwest argument.

Who doesn't have a junk drawer? Or maybe they don't consider it "junk", and they have pen drawer, or a notepad drawer. But I call it a junk drawer and have pens, paper clips, note pads, fireplace lighter, scissors, spare odd size batteries, etc.
I also have a junk drawer in my bedroom nightstand, but again, its not junk, its my hair ties, lip balm, lotion, flashlight - things to use at nighttime.

From Arizona and we always had one. We have one in the kitchen and I have one in my sewing /craft room. DH is from upstate NY and grew up with one. His home office desk drawer looks junky, but I can always find what I need.
I love seeing junk drawers that others have. So much tiny detail about the lives it represents.

This is what I have, in the top drawer of our buffet in the dining room, easily accessible from the living room and kitchen. Items we find we need that just don’t fit anywhere else, all neatly corralled. DH has what started out as my type of junk drawer in the kitchen. Now it is his kind of junk drawer. My intent was to put an outlet in there for our laptop and a few other electronics, so I started adding the cords and such. Then he took over in the kitchen due to my illness and when I rediscovered it...let’s just say I don’t look in there anymore. I also intentionally gave him a drawer in our entrance table to throw his keys, wallet, etc in when he got home so it doesn’t clutter up the top of the table. Good intentions and all that. We are in Texas, and yes we call them junk drawers.

Yes I totally have one. In addition to the many miscellaneous things that others have mentioned here, mine also includes decks of cards, scented wax melts, dogs heartworm pills, and anything else that doesn't have a place.

I’m not sure what your question is. My question is who are these random people needing to be discouraged from junking up the place?

I’m sure it’s considered a junk drawer, but I don’t really call it that. My drawer is organized, but has that misc house stuff. Batteries, rubber bands, scissors, note pads, pens/markers. Stuff that doesn’t go anywhere else, but seems to go well together. It’s not a free for all drawer.

Just part of our household management philosophy - the touch it once rule. Always deal with things all the way to their final disposition. Don’t put them down to deal with later.

We have a junk drawer in the kitchen and it’s called junk drawer. It has pens, note cards, paper clips, random screws and a screwdriver or two and bandaids because that’s where I need them after I cut myself in the kitchen. :/ I’ve always lived in Washington.
